What if Obama loses his media darling status re plagiarism?
You know a story like that, unfair or not, could be hard to "break out of."

I think it's very hard for Senator Clinton to break out of the politics of the past 15 years," Obama said.

"Senator Clinton starts off with 47 percent of the country against her," the Illinois senator told 3,000 people at a high school gym in Alexandria, Va., just outside Washington. "That's a hard place to start.

"Democrats will win in November and build a majority in Congress not by nominating a candidate who will unite the other party against us."

"It is about the past versus the future," he said. "And when I am the nominee, the Republicans won't be able to make this election about the past.

against Hillary as a positive for him.

A negative story like this one could have similar effects, and would would then comprise part of his "history."

Given Obama's own logic, this could now be held against him.

6. It is a long way from that, but it could happen.
The other damaging aspect of it (besides losing some media because they are sensitive to the issue) is losing some of the college-educated Democrats who are pretty strongly favoring him right now.

I don't know if it will stick, I am sure the media is combing the archives for other examples. The other examples I have seen floated so far are not convincing.

9. Why would he lose
the college vote? Surely they know the definition of plagiarism.

13. If it sticks, I said.
I think the media will have to find other examples, but if he is lifting significant portions of speeches pretty much verbatim then it will hurt him with people who understand what it is.

I do believe that this portion of his speech should have been attributed. To come up with the exact same quotes out of all of the famous quotes that could have proven his point is very improbable to do by accident. The other "evidence" of his plagiarism that has been floating around GD:P, I would not consider plagiarizing. To adopt or promote ideas from another party is fine, but to use their words without attribution is not.

And I wasn't referring to college vote, more to the "latte-liberal" crowd as the media calls it.
