Poll question: Obama VP: Round 2 |
|
This poll assumes, as I do, that Obama will be the nominee: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4620129In Round 1, so far the leaders are Clark, Edwards, Biden and (way on the outside) Richardson - you can still vote in Round 1 here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4635068Round 2 is made up of people from the Other category of Round 1 Later I'll take some of the most popular from the various rounds and pit them against each other. (yes of course it's meaningless, but so what?)

1. I just voted for Barbara Boxer for VP |
|
she is my favorite... I even wish that she had run for President.
But I don't think she will take the VP slot... just a feeling I have. But if she would, I'd be all for that.

9. I'm not sure Obama wants Edwards ... |
|
He couldn't even deliver North Carolina when he was on the ticket vs. Chimpy & Dr. Evil.
He would, however, make a good AG, and hopefully toss some of these corporate motherfuckers into the clink for 50-60 years.
Kenny Boy Lay got off easy ... it's time for payback on the folks that have sold out our country's working people.

12. I love Boxer and I want her to remain our Senator |
|
but the whole California/Jewish/Liberal/Woman thing? I'm frankly worried that it will alienate some voters on the edges without pulling new voters in to replace them. :(
I think Richardson or a Southern governor would be a good choice. :)

13. I think Warner is the best choice |
|
But I'm willing to bet he's simply too valuable in taking the other Virginia Senate seat to be allowed to be considered.
Sign me up for Boxer, though - My vote for first female President!

16. One fool weighs in with picks for all three |
|
http://www.journalgazette.net/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080218/NEWS03/802180369Clinton
Evan Bayh : The moderate Indiana senator is close to perfect in his vice-presidential pedigree. He was a governor, he’s well-respected but low key, he’s a red-state Midwesterner. Downside: Unless he can bring along Indiana’s electoral votes, he doesn’t deliver anything concrete.
Ted Strickland: The Ohio governor picked the wrong time to criticize the Iowa caucuses, but depending on the March 4 outcome in his state, Strickland could still prove to be one of Clinton’s most valued surrogates. A former Methodist minister and clinical psychologist, he may be the most obvious pick on the list. Downside: None; Democrats need to win Ohio in November.
Tom Vilsack: The former Iowa governor did not exactly deliver for Clinton on Jan. 3 – she finished third, behind John Edwards – but he gained wide respect during his eight years in office.
Barack Obama: As the nomination battle rages on, it’s getting harder to imagine a scenario in which Clinton prevails and does not offer Obama the No. 2 spot. He has simply won too many convincing victories in too many important states. Downside: Would he accept?
Obama
Jack Reed: This low-profile Rhode Island Democrat is a West Point grad and Army Ranger and is a leading Democratic expert on military matters.
Anthony Zinni: The retired Marine general is a prominent war opponent and Bush administration critic.
Kathleen Sebelius: Sebelius’ ability to win in solidly Republican Kansas, along with Obama’s personal ties to the state, make her a compelling choice.
The Virginians: Gov. Tim Kaine and Sen. Jim Webb are two of the most noteworthy newcomers to the national stage. Kaine and Webb have carried the Democratic Party to dominant status in the state.
McCain
John Thune: The South Dakota senator is a hero to the Republican base for knocking off Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., in 2004.
Tim Pawlenty: The two-term governor of Minnesota has been with McCain from the start, hails from the Midwest and is south of 50 years old.
Mark Sanford: During McCain’s first run for president Sanford, then a member of Congress, was one of a handful of officeholders to throw their support behind the Arizona senator’s renegade bid.
Michael Steele: Steele is one of the most prominent blacks in the Republican Party and, if Obama winds up as the nominee, he might get real consideration.
Sarah Palin: Your true longshot. Palin, the governor of Alaska, was elected on a reform platform in 2006. She remains extremely well-regarded among voters in the Last Frontier.

18. Ted Strickland Ohio Governor former Senator |
|
Ted Strickland is campaigning for Hillary...Obama is stealing her spotlight why not steal one of her choices for VP? Actually, Ted would be a wonderful choice - has Washington experienced, not corrupt, clean record, respected and is a great speaker and a champion for all Americans.

20. Russ Feingold. What's with all the Webb supporters? |
|
Webb's not exactly friendly to women in uniform, he supported Bush and Macaca in 2000, and he's just starting his freshman Senate term.
On the other hand, Feingold's a real progressive from a near-swing state, he's lauded by both parties as an open-government, people-minded senator, he's got 15 years' worth of experience (including foreign policy experience) in the Senate, he's the better half of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform, and he's an excellent debater.

21. Feingold belongs in the Senate. He is too damn valuable |
|
to pull out of his seat to run as a VP. To some of us, he is worth his weight in gold. The Senate needs him, even more than us.

22. Well I always wanted Feingold to run for president. |
|
I'm disappointed that he didn't, but barring that he deserves a key role in the new presidential administration.
I guess we agree that Feingold is incredibly valuable in government, but I see his talents best used as part of a new administration, getting the message out on a national level. As I said, he rocks at debates and would clean up with whomever he was debating.
Plus, with McCain on the ticket, we'll need to blunt the campaign finance reform talking points he's already starting to use. The other half of McCain-Feingold, which is a bill many recognize, would do well to dent McCain's perceived strengths in that area.
There are other good progressive voices in the Senate - Boxer and Kennedy come to mind. We'll do fine if Russ is Obama's VP.

26. I still believe he would serve the country best as Vice President. |
|
If you're from Wisconsin, which is the impression your last post left me with, I understand. If not, we've got other great progressives in the Senate ready to pick up Russ's mantle.
I still think he will help Obama immeasurably as VP.
