Video of Michelle talking about Pride
You can catch the video of Michelle talking about her new found pride http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=49244&comments=1#comments">here.

Here's the actual quote, slightly different from what was posted here earlier

"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something -- for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I've seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it's made me proud."

I suspect this will be widely covered tonight. Perhaps it already has been on the East Coast where the evening news has already happened.

3. Dude, if I was African American I'd have a lot to be pissed about too
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 06:10 PM by XemaSab
:P

On edit: Which isn't to say that as a white person I can't be pissed too about treatment of minorities, foreign policy, education, the environment, etc, but poor treatment of African Americans in this country is not something I have personally experienced.

4. The USA is the worst polluter in the world.
For so many having so much pride in the country, where is the responsibility for fixing the abuse, wasteful, polluting ways of the US.

9. He's not alone ...
kind of strange, seeing somebody who looks like they could be related to me, on his way to the White House (and not as hired help).

I only wish my grandparents were alive to see this.

7. Sometimes you're proud, other times you're REALLY proud!!
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 06:26 PM by tokenlib
And listening to Michelle today, I am really, really proud!!! All these people taking shots at her are just being asinine--they know what she was saying. And it wasn't what they're saying she said.

15. What can they do that
hasn't already been done to AAs to date?

Tell the M$M to pick up DuBois' "The Souls of Black Folk" where he talks about "the problem of the 20th century is the problem of the color line". And so now that we are in the 21st century, can we not find pride in finding that maybe, just maybe, we are finally moving past that unfortunate truism written about so boldly in 1903?

11. Great sound bite for the other side. First time in her adult lifetime? Wow.
What about how our country suffered through 911 together and we became one, albeit only temporarily. Proud was a feeling I experienced during that time.

12. So the uproar is about being "Proud" versus "Really Proud"?
Sounds like a worthy discussion to me. :eyes:

I'll agree with her here. I'm almost always "proud" of this country. But this is also the first time in my adult life that I can remember being "really proud" of this country. In my adult life, this is the first time that I've seen this country willing to take such bold, transformative steps.

*disclaimer: I'm young, so the W presidency has dominated my "adult" life.

13. You mean Michelle isn't proud of Monicagate, Reagan years, Bush years?
Slick Willy and his zipper...now that's something to really be proud of...cheating on his wife in the White House where she claims she got "experience" from... what a classless couple...

17. Her adult life
Sorry, Hillbots, but Michelle's adult life is a lot shorter than Bill's and Hill's. She's in her early 40s, so mouch of her adult life has consisted of the Bush debacle and the political spitball fights of the 1990s. Not a lot to get excited about, frankly.
