I'll be the first to defend what Michele Obama said
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 07:29 PM by shadowknows69
Fuck this bullshit litmus test of people's national pride and patriotism. I'm right with her. I've yet to feel especially proud of our country in my 39 years. Reagan, Bush, a better but far from perfect Clinton administration then 8 years of hell and embarrasment as a country on a scale we've never seen before.
Are we supposed to be proud of Vietnam? Gulf Farce I? Iran contra? Katrina? NAFTA? Voter disenfranchisement?, Monicagate?, Abu Gharib?, 9/11? And on and on. I will start having pride in my country again when we start fixing the myriad of problems we have and we have a leader that inspires us to be better Americans.

If the Hillary clan or the GOP try to use this statement it just shows how desperate they are.
Just my pair of pennies

84. And stop trying to blame this on the HRC campaign. The media made an issue
out of it. Not the HRC campaign. But no doubt, they will get the blame for it as you have started with your "if.." statement. I fully expect to see headlines tomorrow that the "Hillary cmapaign slimes Michelle Obama" theredy turning even more blacks against the Clintons.

4. Its a non-issue. The Iraq War, the Economy, Healthcare, Jobs, Social Security,
Medicare

These are the issues that will affect people

The only thing more important than the issues I just mentioned is what is happening to Britney, Lindsey or Paris, other than that, well you have my point

For the right wingers to get galvanized, just mention the word "CLINTON". It's messed up, but it is what it is.

In another political climate, I would easily give Hillary my nomination. I really respect her and think she could make a great president.

Just not now.

I really want us, DU and all Democrats, to win this thing in November.

6. I agree. I'm 42 and as an adult, have had Bush/Clinton/Bush.
There's been a lot of divisiveness which has only served to hurt our country. I finally feel proud too. We have the opportunity to move this country forward and heal the divisiveness. I only hope (there's that word) those of us who want something more can win over the bastards who would keep us down.

92. Hope is wonderful and all, but what in the world makes you think ANY Dem
can fix the divisivness? Co-operation needs BOTH sides to WANT to stop hating! WANT being the operative word!!!

Look at the House & ther Senate since the 06 elections. We have ALL been PO'd at the Demsw for "trying to co-operate TOO much", but what have you seen from the other side? Have you seen ANYTHING that even remotely looks like trying to work together? I sure haven't.

I'm much older than you, and I remember the days when there was at least some comraderie "after hours" in the Senate. Now I think the Pubs, at least most of them, don't even speak to any Dems on or off the floor.

We NEED a Dem in the WH in 08, but if any of you really believe whoever wins will be able to get the two Parties to work together for the good of their Country, you're kidding yourself!

Oh, and there was the time Kerry's joke was misinterpreted and the MSM never let this go. Dobb's program is now having a panel discussion on Michelle Obama's comment - this is unbelievable! Lou Dobbs has clearly moved over to the darkside.

Well, as I recall, she said she wasn't proud of her country until her husband ran for President. Even if she's been totally ashamed of her country, she could have sweetened it up just a bit by saying that she'd never been so proud of her country as when her husband ran for president. It would be a white lie, but much more politically palatable.

33. LOL
Sometimes a flub gets news coverage by virtue of the magnitude of its flubbiness. It doesn't require the Clinton campaign to push it.

43. Not Ha Ha Funny
More like the sad "oh shit there are alot of fucking hypocritical, bigoted trolls who shoot from the hip in their defense of Hillary." Their trolling colors the perception despite it being an unfair observation.

See the latest controversy: Michele Obama Hates AMeRica

27. I think response to this faux scandal will not be what many people expect.
As an African-American woman, I totally "get" what Michelle is saying and agree in terms of being "really" proud. But I thought, oh no, people are not going to interpret this in a bad way.

But one of my co-workers has read some of the "outrage" and says it's a stupid thing to attack someone on. My older sister, who supports Hillary, agrees with Michelle and is angry that this is the best the Clinton camp can come up with. And my grandmother, who is a huge Hillary fan (and already voted for her in the primary) asked me "what in the world is Hillary doing?"

The "casual voter" (as described in the NY Observer) is not going to care about this at all. The party hard-liners are going to come down on the Obama side or the Clinton side. And the undecideds, in my opinion, are going to be repulsed at the tactics the Clinton campaign is using to slow down Obama.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Clinton began losing superdelegates when she started going negative. For whatever reason, people don't like it.

41. I watched it on C-Span
and she was terrific. It really boggles my mind how many here on DU are sucking up to the likes of Lou Dobbs and all the other MSM pundits. How quickly they forget what the MSM role has been in what we have faced in the past 8 years.

74. FYI, the word "really" can be interpreted 2 ways...

as in "extraordinarilly" versus "actually". If she needs to clarify anything it could to say that she meant to say: at this time in her life she feels extraordinarilly proud to be an American.

59. sure, because we all define our country by those scandals . . . don't we?
There's plenty to take pride with in America. You just have to look to our people for examples. Look at our struggles, our triumphs, our perseverance, our compassion, our determination . . . I won't allow myself or my country to be defined by the actions of a minority of idiots in the White House.

Yeah, that'll make a really persuasive campaign platform.

I hope she gives a speech on that very topic tomorrow. Early, so everyone in Wisconsin can hear it.

86. Michele Obama's views on anything have to do with Barack?- plain & simple, she's his rock, she's
much of the reason why we get from Barack what we wish to be. A bona fide leader. Barack is great as a leader, his family is his advantage also.
