Why haven't we developed an equivalent "Democrat Smear Machine"...
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 09:09 PM by Flabbergasted
I mean if flat out falsehoods and lies is what is required to win elections consistantly, why isn't our machine up to par with the GOP.

Partially it's ethics I know, but is it also democrats are less credible with smears?

Can we change this? Do we want to change this?

It seems like democrats just play fair, for the most part, and hope that the country has wisened up.

If I were the Democratic nominee this year I'd look at this closely.

Maybe a few films showing McCain kissing Bush's ass?

factually, and maturely, respond to each charge and show them to be the lying sacks of scum they are.

Do you think Rove will be a behind-the-scenes advisor?

EDIT: AND get all the dirt on them that we can.

Why should we be playing defensive this time around?

McCain is the nominee. The Democrats could hold the primary in limbo for months. In the meantime we can ruthlessly smear McCain with anything we can find, leaving McCain without a singular candidate to attack in return.

Obama and Clinton could both launch attacks against McCain.

15. One legged man in an ass-kicking contest just kind of jumps out for the answer
It's kind of like the ole-gun-in-the-bible-cut out trick. If you lull people to think you could not be a threat to them then you will eventually be able to steal it all away one way or another. After two or three decades of watching how they work it's quite obvious that one should expect them to do exactly opposite from what they profess

If Democrats campaigned on what we actually stand for, we'd win all the time. No need to lie and cheat when you're right.

21. Not at all
Being better and being weak about it has cost us a lot of presidential elections.

Bill Clinton was right about that. People would rather vote for a strong candidate, even if he's wrong, than to vote for a weak candidate who's right. Being weak and playing the middle (or both sides) has really done us in.

19. Adlai Stevenson said "We'll quit telling the truth about Republic[an]s when they
stop lying about us (Dems). I am proud to be associated with a party about which that can be said. I loathe all the spin, smears and lying that the republics do.

The truth is bad enough.

Adlai Stevenson also responded to a woman who said, "Governor Stevenson all of the thinking people in America for you" with, "Yes ma'am but we need a majority to win."
