The Truth Shall Out - Obama , PNAC ,Cheney

and the jailbird training Obama volunteers.

What I especially liked was this, speaks volumes about who Obama is. I've been waiting for his mask to come off.

Robert Kagan, a leading neoconservative and co-founder of the New American Century,(along with Cheney) the group which called for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein,(and demanded we attack Iraq) has praised Obama fulsomely

37. Ann Coulter played the "endorsement" game to get people to vote for Obama.
This has been their grand scheme all along. Get Clinton out and go for the easy kill, Obama.

They have been voting for him since Iowa, and are now being told to vote in Texas for Obama to get Clinton out of the game. You truly believe that the Republicans aren't geniuses at this political game? They're playing us like fools.

95. Yeah, geniuses all ...
... they've 'geniused' themselves into still pushing a war that the majority of Americans want out of, an idiotic president who can't even be mentioned by GOP candidates for fear of being associated with Mr. 24% and his scatterbrained schemes that have sunk the country, its economy, its world standing, its educational system, and its infra-structure - but, oh yeah, there's the Math, which lost them the Senate and House majorities in '06.

And now they're stuck with McCain, a man quickly slipping into senility who can't even get his own party members to support him.

Genius!

4. aren't you tired of throwing the mud?
Obama didn't buy into the "cakewalk"...if you remember.

He didn't buy into Kyl-Lieberman. Remember?

But there was someone who did...and it ain't Barack!

Delivered on 26 October 2002 at an anti-war rally

I don’t oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income – to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.

That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.

Now let me be clear – I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity.

He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.

I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.

So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure that the UN inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn’t simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil.

Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair.

The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not – we will not – travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.

How does that work? He couldn't muster a view on whether to go to war or not? Or did he vote present and then follow the polls after seeing the traction Edwards got from denouncing it?

I thought that was all understood by now. Obama was in DC when Reid tabled the bill and said it would not be coming to the floor anytime soon...I believe there is video on C-Span.org...Later, while at at campaign event in NH, he was told that Reid had decided to bring the vote to the floor within an hour. He then issued a statement condemning the bill, and spoke about it at the event. Make of it what you will.

Obama Says Gitmo Facility Should Close

The Democratic presidential hopeful pledged to work side-by-side with the rest of the world on issues like nuclear proliferation, poverty, economic development in Latin America and the violence in Darfur.

"While we're at it," he said, "we're going to close Guantanamo. And we're going to restore habeas corpus. ... We're going to lead by example _ by not just word but by deed. That's our vision for the future."

Habeas corpus is a tenet of the Constitution that protects people from unlawful imprisonment

---------------
Human Rights Should Be Bigger than Politics
Senator Barack Obama delivered this speech on the floor of the US Senate, in reaction to Senate passage of S. 3930, Military Commissions Act of 2006, which approved US torture of detainees and strips Constitutional rights away from detainees.
Senator Obama decries the placement of politics over human rights, and condemns S. 3930. He states, "This is not how a serious Administration would approach the problem of terrorism."
http://usliberals.about.com/od/extraordinaryspeeches/a/ObamaTorture.htm

excerpts from Obama's statement...

In the five years that the President's system of military tribunals has existed, not one terrorist has been tried. Not one has been convicted. And in the end, the Supreme Court of the United found the whole thing unconstitutional, which is why we're here today.

We could have fixed all of this in a way that allows us to detain and interrogate and try suspected terrorists while still protecting the accidentally accused from spending their lives locked away in Guantanamo Bay. Easily. This was not an either-or question.

Instead of allowing this President - or any President - to decide what does and does not constitute torture, we could have left the definition up to our own laws and to the Geneva Conventions, as we would have if we passed the bill that the Armed Services committee originally offered.

Instead of detainees arriving at Guantanamo and facing a Combatant Status Review Tribunal that allows them no real chance to prove their innocence with evidence or a lawyer, we could have developed a real military system of justice that would sort out the suspected terrorists from the accidentally accused.

And instead of not just suspending, but eliminating, the right of habeas corpus - the seven century-old right of individuals to challenge the terms of their own detention, we could have given the accused one chance - one single chance - to ask the government why they are being held and what they are being charged with.
http://usliberals.about.com/od/extraordinaryspeeches/a/ObamaTorture.htm

http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9845595-7.html

For one thing, under an Obama presidency, Americans will be able to leave behind the era of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and "wiretaps without warrants," he said. (He was referring to the lingering legal fallout over reports that the National Security Agency scooped up Americans' phone and Internet activities without court orders, ostensibly to monitor terrorist plots, in the years after the September 11 attacks.)

It's hardly a new stance for Obama, who has made similar statements in previous campaign speeches, but mention of the issue in a stump speech, alongside more frequently discussed topics like Iraq and education, may give some clue to his priorities.

In our own Technology Voters' Guide, when asked whether he supports shielding telecommunications and Internet companies from lawsuits accusing them of illegal spying, Obama gave us a one-word response: "No."

How do you believe in someone who says he'll agree to public campaign financing and now is taking it back?

How do you believe in someone who claimed not to have PACs and now is found to have donated more than 4 times what Clinton did to Super Delegates? $10,000 each

How do you believe in someone who says he's for gun control in one state and against it in another state?

How do you believe in someone who claims not to be playing the race card and then gets caught circulating a memo detailing how to do just that?

How do you believe in someone who sends Jesse Jackson Jr. to intimidate black candidates who support Clinton?

26. This is what makes you a smear peddler.......
Obama doesn't have to honor a goddamn thing....he ain't even the Nominee at this time. So kiss his ass on that one.

Only the most ignorant wouldn't know that what you are talking about is who helped which candidate and by how much while that candidate was running. Hillary Clinton took $4,200 from Obama's PAC....that he donated to help her win her fucking senate seat. Yes, he was more generous in helping us regain the fucking senate.......but try to confuse everyone, you smear peddler....you and your politics of hate.

The memo circulating was a diary/journal of the race baiting that had been done by the Hillary camp.

Here's another one of those that the Obama camp didn't even bother with....

“The Hispanic voter—and I want to say this very carefully—has not shown a lot of willingness or affinity to support black candidates.” —Clinton pollster Sergio Bendixen
http://www.rollingstone.com/nationalaffairs/index.php/2008/01/12/clinton-pollster-latinos-too-racist-to-vote-for-obama

Clinton at Root of Racist Stereotyping - Hispanics vs Blackswashingtonpost.com — Where did this come from? "Hispanics traditionally do not like Blacks." Since when? This is a racist, divisive falsehood that the Clinton Campaign has created and nurtured as a 'historical statement' in an attempt to pit the political arena against Obama. First mentioned by a Hillary pollster and then affirmed by Clinton herself. There is no proof.
http://www.digg.com/2008_us_elections/Clinton_at_Root_of_Racist_Stereotyping_Hispanics_vs_Blacks

A few weeks ago, Sergio Bendixen, a Clinton pollster and Hispanic expert, publicly articulated what campaign officials appear to have been whispering for months. In an interview with Ryan Lizza of The New Yorker, Bendixen explained that "the Hispanic voter - and I want to say this very carefully - has not shown a lot of willingness or affinity to support black candidates."

The spin worked. For the last several weeks, it's been on the airwaves (Tucker Carlson, "Hardball," NPR), generally tossed off as if it were conventional wisdom. And it has shown up in sources as far afield as Agence France-Presse and the London Daily Telegraph, which wrote about a "voting bloc traditionally reluctant to support black candidates."

The spin also helped shape the analysis of the Jan. 19 Nevada caucus, in which Clinton won the support of Hispanic voters by a margin of better than 2 to 1. Forget the possibility that Nevada's Hispanic voters may have actually preferred Clinton or, at the very least, had a fondness for her husband; pundits embraced the idea that Hispanic voters simply didn't like the fact that her opponent was black.

But was Bendixen's blanket statement true?

Far from it, and the evidence is overwhelming enough to make you wonder why in the world the Clinton campaign would want to portray Hispanic voters as too unrelentingly racist to vote for Barack Obama.

Words: Obama believes that corporations should be responsible for work conditions and pensions and that there should be tax incentives for corporate responsibility. He feels we should close tax loopholes for companies that relocate abroad and end tax breaks for companies that outsource jobs.

Actions: Obama voted AGAINST reforming bankruptcy to include means testing and restrictions (2005) and FOR repealing the tax subsidy for companies that move jobs offshore (2005).

Levin, Coleman, Obama Introduce Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act
Bill targets $100 billion in lost tax revenue each year from offshore tax dodges

WASHINGTON – Today, citing $100 billion in revenue drained from the U.S. Treasury at the expense of honest, hardworking American families who pay their fair share, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., introduced comprehensive legislation to stop offshore tax haven and tax shelter abuses.
...
The Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act is a strengthened version of a tax reform bill that Levin, Coleman, and Obama introduced in the last Congress. The legislation was strengthened as a result of a year-long Subcommittee investigation which resulted in a hearing and report on August 1, 2006, examining a series of case studies showing how U.S. taxpayers are using offshore secrecy jurisdictions to dodge U.S. taxes.

the 68-page bill would:

ESTABLISH PRESUMPTIONS TO COMBAT OFFSHORE SECRECY by allowing U.S. tax and securities law enforcement to presume that non-publicly traded, offshore corporations and trusts are controlled by the U.S. taxpayers who formed them or sent them assets, unless the taxpayer proves otherwise;

IMPOSE TOUGHER REQUIREMENTS ON U.S. TAXPAYERS USING OFFSHORE SECRECY JURISDICTIONS by listing 34 jurisdictions which have already been named in IRS court filings as probable locations for U.S. tax evasion;

AUTHORIZE SPECIAL MEASURES TO STOP OFFSHORE TAX ABUSES by giving Treasury authority to take special measures against foreign jurisdictions and financial institutions that impede U.S. tax enforcement;

STRENGTHEN DETECTION OF OFFSHORE ACTIVITIES by requiring U.S. financial institutions that open accounts for foreign entities controlled by U.S. clients, open accounts in offshore secrecy jurisdictions for U.S. clients, or establish entities in offshore secrecy jurisdictions for U.S. clients, to report such actions to the IRS;

CLOSE OFFSHORE TRUST LOOPHOLES by taxing offshore trust income used to buy real estate, artwork and jewelry for U.S. persons, and treating as trust beneficiaries those persons who actually receive offshore trust assets;

STRENGTHEN PENALTIES on tax shelter promoters by increasing the maximum fine to 150% of their ill-gotten gains, and on corporate insiders who hide offshore stock holdings by increasing the maximum fine on them to $1 million per violation of U.S. securities laws;

STOP TAX SHELTER PATENTS by prohibiting the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from issuing patents for “inventions designed to minimize, avoid, defer, or otherwise affect liability for Federal, State, local, or foreign tax”; and

REQUIRE HEDGE FUNDS AND COMPANY FORMATION AGENTS TO KNOW THEIR OFFSHORE CLIENTS by requiring them to establish anti-money laundering programs like other U.S. financial institutions, under regulations to be issued by the Treasury Department.

Obama's Global Poverty Act of 2007, passed out of committee just a few days ago

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) today hailed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's passage of the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs. This legislation was introduced in December. Smith and Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) sponsored the House version of the bill (H.R. 1302), which passed the House last September.

Legislation would aim to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015

"With billions of people living on just dollars a day around the world, global poverty remains one of the greatest challenges and tragedies the international community faces," said Senator Obama. "It must be a priority of American foreign policy to commit to eliminating extreme poverty and ensuring every child has food, shelter, and clean drinking water. As we strive to rebuild America's standing in the world, this important bill will demonstrate our promise and commitment to those in the developing world. Our commitment to the global economy must extend beyond trade agreements that are more about increasing corporate profits than about helping workers and small farmers everywhere. I commend Chairman Biden and Ranking Member Lugar for supporting this bill and moving it forward quickly."

"Poverty, hunger, and disease will be among the most serious challenges confronting the world in the 21st century," Senator Hagel said. "This legislation provides the President of the United States the framework and resources to help implement a comprehensive policy to reduce global poverty. It is the human condition that has always driven the great events of history. This is a responsibility of all citizens of the world."

25. NOT Robert Kagan, Robert Cremer - huge difference
Bob Cremer is the husband of Congresswoman (and Obama Campaign Chair) Jan Shakowsky. I went through Bob's little training camp in 2000 when he was supporting Gore. Bob is a major dirtbag. His training "academy" bordered on being one giant human rights violation. I couldn't even believe it when I saw that the Obama campaign had chosen any association with Bob. And, after the way Bob has treated his employees (calls it an internship, pays $100/week - and didn't manage to report this to the IRS hence the stay in the Federal Pen-, makes you work 100 hours a week) I continue to be surprised every time I see him "pop up" alongside a union endorsed candidate.

81.  You support Hillary Clinton, who's achievements are
Supporting NAFTA, Bankruptcy Reform, Welfare Reform, Telecommunications acts, Cluster Bombs, IRan Resolutions, Lobbyists, supporting a philandering husband, etc., etc., etc.

You are the one supporting all of the things wrong with this country.

Here's Hillary and the defense industry:

Defense Industry Embraces Democrats, Hillary By Far The Favorite

The defense industry this year abandoned its decade-long commitment to the Republican Party, funneling the lion share of its contributions to Democratic presidential candidates, especially to Hillary Clinton who far out-paced all her competitors.

An examination of contributions of $500 or more, using the Huffington Post's Fundrace website, shows that employees of the top five arms makers - Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop-Grumman, Raytheon and General Dynamics -- gave Democratic presidential candidates $103,900, with only $86,800 going to Republicans.

Senator Clinton took in $52,600, more than half of the total going to all Democrats, and a figure equaling 60 percent of the sum going to the entire GOP field. Her closest competitor for defense industry money is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R.), who raised $32,000.

Insofar as defense workers making political donations reflect the interests of their employers, the contributions clearly suggest that the arms industry has reach the conclusion that Democratic prospects for 2008 are very good indeed. Since their profits are so heavily dependent on government contracts, companies in this field want to be sure they do not have hostile relations with the White House.

77. I disagree with the OP's basic premise...

Obama's foreign policy advisor Brzezinski has turned away from neoconservatism, calling for the peaceful bringing together of moderates in the ME and stressing that the Israeli-Palestine situation is central to solving broader conflicts.

What seems to be happening is that more fiscally conservative paleo-conservatives (who oppose neoconservatives) are willing to cross party lines in order to vote for Obama.

88. Whatever...
In Washington State, we went for Obama by a huge margin across all demographics, by caucus, not primary, so that undermines the whole theory you are positing.

18,000 people turned out for his rally in Seattle, and not one of them was paid. 3000 more were turned away.

And there is this: every Republican knows perfectly well that Hillary would be a much weaker candidate against McCain or any Republican. They haven't spent the past 18 years demonizing her to no purpose. It is, I suppose, possible that they are so clueless that they think it is still impossible for a black man to be elected President in this country. And therefore, they have decided to change horses in midstream and manipulate events so that Obama becomes the Democratic candidate. But they would have to have been clairvoyant, considering Obama's candidacy was not taken seriously by most people until fairly recently.

But come on; this kind of elaborate conspiracy just isn't realistic. Anyone who could buy this story probably also believes that the Illuminati run the world, and the dollar bill is a totem of Masonic skullduggery. There is medication for this kind of paranoia.

101. I'm saying that neither one of them--
--has the slightest objection to the "oil law," which is nothing but overt theft, nor to defending "our" interests by hanging on to a slave labor built Vatican sized embassy.

Both want to increase the size of our military at a time when it is becoming clear that we can no longer afford military domination of the rest of the world. I find neither believable, and think that they both offer a kinder, gentler imperialism.

That said, organized pressure from below has a greater chance of influencing either compared to McCain, who is a borderline psychopath, IMO.

106. And the punchline is: John McCain as the nominee
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 12:31 AM by theboss
First of all, I don't believe Republicans are as stupid as you make them out to be. But if they are, they got what they deserved: John "Amnesty" McCain.

If you put a gun to my head and asked me which Republican I wanted as the Republican nominee, it would be McCain.

Two reasons:

1. He hates conservatives and conservatives hate him. So, I don't think we are going to see a lot of running to the right to secure the base if he - god forbid - gets elected. I am pretty sure that I will easily survive a McCain presidency.

2. I think he will ultimately be a poor candidate come crunch time. He can't secure the base. He's a thousand years old. He looks like hell. I just think that by September, he is going to be running on fumes while whoever we nominate will be peaking.
