Latest Poll: McCain Beats Hillary, Obama Beats McCain
This is the new Rassmussen poll released yesterday (Presidents Day).

John McCain 49%
Hillary Clinton 42%

Barack Obama 46%
John McCain 43%

Hillary's numbers actually went down nationally. She trailed in a similar Rassmussen poll last week by only 2%.

Obama also leads all the candidates in favorables...

Obama 54% favorable
McCain 51% favorable
Clinton 45% favorable

Yet Hillary still makes the argument that she is the most "electable" candidate, which is totally absurd.

1. K&R. Obama's the most electable. Anyone without blinders knows that.

2. Polls, Polls, Polls
I didn't give them a second thought when Hillary was up top.
I don't give them a second thought now, either.

3. It's been that way for awhile now, especially after Bush said he thought Hillary would be nominee.
Ain't going to happen. She's out of touch with the voters.

4. It's discouraging that an unpopular Republican is
so close to Obama after eight years of hell.

This is why I can't stand listening to people talk about how easy we're going to have it in November if it's Obama.

It will be far from easy, because when push comes to shove, Republicans will vote for the Republican to keep control of the White House.

6. I agree, it'll be tough...
...but it'd be even tougher with Hillary as our nominee.

7. What's more discouraging is the fact that...
...Hillary trails BY SEVEN POINTS.

Obama keeps McCain at 43% and I assume the reason that Obama isn't higher is because of the crybaby Clinton supporters who are saying that they won't support him.

McCain is at 49% against Hillary. This is consistent with every other poll we know of which shows that half the country WILL NEVER vote for her.

Thus Obama has the chance of winning this election by 10 to 15% (depending on how effective his campaign is), compared with Clinton whose only chance is winning a squeeker.

8. both races are close enough that the Republican vote tabulators . . .
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 06:28 AM by OneBlueSky
will be able to turn the election in enough states to ensure a McCain victory . . . they did it in 2000, they did it in 2004, and they're going to do it in 2008 . . .

it's not who votes that counts; it's who counts the votes . . .

9. Meanwhile: "Rasmussen Florida: McCain leads Obama by SIXTEEN percentage points."
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 06:32 AM by Perry Logan
"The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Florida shows John McCain holding a six-percentage point lead over Hillary Clinton and an even larger lead—sixteen percentage points—over Barack Obama. It’s McCain 49% Clinton 43% and McCain 53% Obama 37%."

10. Wait until Obama campaigns there

It takes him one week to soar to the top of the polls in each state
where he campaigns.

11. No offense: anyone who thinks this is significant ....
... hasn't been around very long or hasn't been paying attention or is a very slow learner, politically speaking.

I'm for Obama over Clinton but the truth is he hasn't been subjected to the kind of multi-pronged, highly sophisticated campaign of defamation and distortion that the other side will direct his way post- convention.

These comparisons are therefore, virtually meaningless. People know Clinton, or the ultra-right's disorted version of Clinton, and she still is within striking distance distance. Even though they've thrown everything conceivable at her. All she has to do is prove she was NOT involved in the Foster murder and her numbers will rise among the most gullible elements of the electorate.

By contrast, the Rovians will have the white south believing that Obama wants to sacrifice Christian babies at secret rituals and was in on 9-11.

As is said, I favor Obama, but it won't be easy. Let's be honest before we start to pretend.

15. Hillary is not within striking distance.
Not even close. The American people , when they see Hillary and McCain side by side, will vote overwhelmingly for McCain. I know many life long Democrats who will have a very difficult time deciding between Hillary and McCain. McCain is perceived as someone willing to work across party lines and to compromise. Hillary is seen as a partisan lightning rod. America is sick and tired of the kind of politics we have seen over the last 28 years. A Hillary presidency will undoubtedly be more of the same. It's not going to happen. We have two choices, we nominate Obama and have a chance at taking the oval office or we invite defeat by nominating Hillary.

Obama in the GE. The same republicans will rouse people out of the grave to vote against Hillary.

12. I don't think that anyone actually believes
that Hillary can beat McCain in the general election, that's why I'm so amazed at the level of support she receives here on DU.
I think it must be a revenge thing for the Hillary supporters. They know that she is universally hated by republicans, independents and conservatives so they support her as a way of tweaking their noses.
