I'm in Texas and I am voting for Hillary Clinton. Here is why.
First let me give you my demographic: I am a 37 year old male. I have a bachelor's degree in physics from Occidental College (Obama went to Occidental too). I consider myself to be a hard core liberal.

I will be voting today in early voting.

In my past experiences my gut is always right. My gut tells me that if it's something Bush wants, no matter what it is, don't give it to him. No matter how he frames it, even if it's free money to poor people, NO! I would vote against anything at all that he proposes. Bush and the neocons hate Hillary Clinton, so therefore, I love her!

Hillary Clinton isn't perfect. Neither is Bill Clinton or anyone else, and she isn't actually my first choice. We're left with two viable candidates at this point and it comes down to who can beat McCain. You want to talk about electability? Whoever gets the Dem nomination is the winner. The Repukes have no chance at all. Look at the raw numbers in the primaries. We beat them 2 to 1 at least. The people are coming out to vote for Dems. That ratio isn't likely to change enough even if the neocons' arch nemisis, Hillary Clinton, is our candidate.

I want the best president we can have. I have listened very carefully to all the debates and the ads and I have watched the message boards. She seems to have answers. She seems to be the person that will do the best job. I trust my gut and I trust what she says today. I think having a female commander in chief is a great idea.

I think Barack Obama is awesome. I think all the Dem candidates are awesome. If Hillary doesn't get the delegates then that's OK with me too. I am voting with my gut on Tuesday. Good luck Hillary. These are exciting times!

1. So basically you are voting name recognition.
Since Hillary has drawn the anger of neocons and Bush (because they use her and Bill to stir up the base), so you want to do the opposite?

Ok then.

Well... it's as good a reason as many that I've seen.

17. stop what???
I read what the OP had to say... you want to go through it paragraph by paragraph?

================================================================================================================================

First let me give you my demographic: I am a 37 year old male. I have a bachelor's degree in physics from Occidental College (Obama went to Occidental too). I consider myself to be a hard core liberal.

>tells us who he is.

I will be voting today in early voting.

>tells us what he will be doing (voting!). that's great!

> Tells us that if Bush wants it, it must be bad so don't do it. Says Bush and Neocons hate Hillary (TRUE!) so therefore, he loves her.
> This is the crux of the matter. Of course, Hillary and Bill are the best KNOWN "liberals" in the nation... so of course Bush hates
> them the most. But if Obama had been President before Shrubya... I bet Obama would be the most hated liberal. It's all name
> recognition. Hence my analysis.

That ratio isn't likely to change enough even if the neocons' arch nemisis, Hillary Clinton, is our candidate.

> rationalization... and empathy for others "she isn't my first choice". Silly statement regarding raw numbers (neglecting to take into
> account that repukes don't usually NEED to vote in primaries since they quickly coalesce around 1 candidate... as they did this time.
> polls tell a much different story, all of them showing that, as of right now, Hillary LOSES to McCain. Obama squeaks out a win.

I want the best president we can have. I have listened very carefully to all the debates and the ads and I have watched the message boards. She seems to have answers. She seems to be the person that will do the best job. I trust my gut and I trust what she says today. I think having a female commander in chief is a great idea.

> rationalization. Having already told us that he loves Hillary because Bush hates her, he now goes on to talk about how she has answers
> and stuff. Plus an appeal to understand his gut instinct.

I think Barack Obama is awesome. I think all the Dem candidates are awesome. If Hillary doesn't get the delegates then that's OK with me too. I am voting with my gut on Tuesday. Good luck Hillary. These are exciting times!

> Ends with sop to the other side (Barack is awesome). Everybody is awesome. Exciting times! blah blah blah (no content, no critical
> thought here to analyze.

============================================================================================================================

Summary... he is voting for Hillary because Bush and the Neocons hate her. Bush and the Neocons hate her BECAUSE she is a famous liberal. She is famous because she was married to Bill Clinton. Name recognition.

I said it was a better reason than many I've seen.

So now... little expert... (and supposed non Hillary supporter) tell me where I went wrong in my reading of his explanation?

21. My gut says the polls are wrong.
You probably think I am stupid by now because I am not agreeing with you. You think I have no capacity for critical thought based on my original post. I am voting for Hillary anyway. I am a stupid idiot and I am going to vote for the very person which will undermine my own interests in every way and will work tirelessly day and night to subvert everything I care for. She absolutely hates people like me and I am going to support her with my vote anyway, because I am an irrational and unreasonable flag waving Bush happy jackass that wants nothing less than the total destruction of our country.

22. Nope... didn't say any of that.
but you didn't address the polls about McCain beating Hillary... what you said was that primary turnout indicated that any Democrat would likely win. And this isn't the case.

Vote for whoever you want. Voting is great. Voting for a Democrat is even better.

But your reasons for voting for Hillary were, to put it mildly, somewhat light on critical analysis.

Sorry if I offended you.

I said in both posts that your reasoning for voting the way you want to is better than many that I've seen (better to me).

Let's leave it at that.

38. You need to look at what he wrote
in the post I was just responding to.

I didn't say any of those things.

Yes, I was terse in my analysis of his "logic" for voting for Hillary. But I wasn't wrong.

If I was wrong in anything, it's even bothering to respond to the OP. But my excuse is that it's been a long long day of debunking Hillary supporter lies and distortions. I won't call any of you folks "HillShills" or "Hillbots" or whatever. I'm tired of being called a cult member, Kool-Aid drinker, childish, immature (I'm well over 50), Obamite... or worse.

I apologized to the OP. But I DID NOT SAY any of the things he said I did. I did NOT call him stupid. I did NOT say that he did not have CAPACITY for critical thought. But I dare ANYONE to say that the line of reasoning he took (anything which is opposite Bush and the neocons is good) was really applied critical thinking. I did NOT SAY that Hillary hates people like him or would work to subvert his very existence. I did not say that he was a jackass or irrational or unreasonable. That is what I was responding to.

So you have just lied about me when you write "Yes you did". Now you need to apologize to me.

And you just expose your arrogance and bias when you claim that Hillary supporters post lies and distortions.

We have match up polls. We have data on how people will decide this.

Vote on your gut, elbow, whatever, but thanks to logic and reason we have more refined data than simple gut-checks.

6. Problem is...
the same points that appeal to you, could very well present problems for us in the GE. Republicans DO hate the Clintons. Their hatred somewhat resembles a rabid animal in its intensity. Right now the GOP is in disarray. They cannot unite their various factions around McCain, who is just a formality away from the nomination. There are alot of conservatives who have made claims they would stay home rather than vote McCain. Now, enter a Hillary nomination. The GOP hatred for the Clinton's being what it is, they wouldn't need a strong candidate to galvanize support. There's a very real chance that they'll unite around voting AGAINST Hillary. Couple that with the deep divisions in our own party and some progressives refusal to vote for Hillary if she is the eventual nominee, and we're looking at a very real chance of losing the GE.

I'm not telling you to ignore your gut. What I am saying, is that there should be some thought about what is ultimately best for the party thrown in. If a conservative gets elected, we ALL lose.

This is the primary. I will vote my conscience. I can't vote for Kucinich or Edwards. I think Hillary Clinton could destroy McCain even if every 20%'er came out to vote for McCain. There aren't enough of them to matter. People are defecting from the Repukes in droves. The other 30% either won't vote or they will flip. Remember 2006? This will be a landslide. Be confident! We have the momentum and we have the correct message and policy.

15. I'm a Texan
and I am voting for Hillary , too. She is our best chance for healthcare reform. If elected, I don't see Obama doing anything constructive about healthcare. Talking don't get it done, and as far as I have seen, that is about all he does. I know the Clintons. I know what they can do. They have years of experience building coalitions and they know how to get things passed.
I don't buy the "new kid on the block" sensation. If I truly thought Obama was the best choice, I would vote for him in a heartbeat.
Hillary might not be the popular choice, but she is the most logical one for me. And, I do vote with my brain!

Electing Obama has it's positives. It would do wonders for racial tensions domestically and give a lift to U.S. image around the globe, but I want a president who can enact change and not just talk about it. I am more worried about the future of the U.S., not the other countries of the world.

I think Obama will be president someday. I just think he needs a little more seasoning.

I hope the two of them can come to some sort of arrangement and avoid the super delegate debacle, but I do not foresee that happening. I wish them both good luck.

25. I know you won't believe this.

but if he had switched all instances of Barack Obama / Hillery Clinton in his OP... I would have written much the same response.

It's not that he is voting for Hillary that touched a nerve... it's that he is voting and posting about it and basically saying that it's because Bush and the neocons hate Hillary. Nothing about a single policy or position or voting record or even scandal.

My bad. Long night here debunking false claims by the Hillary supporters.

Well, at least the OP had some valid reasons, even if I was critical of them.

But I would be just as critical of someone telling me they are voting for Obama because of a feeling or because Cheney hates him, or whatever. At least I believe I would be. You can believe whatever you want.

23. I repesct your choice but please consider the following
It is critically important in this election that we do more than just win with competence. The GOP is fracture...or more correcly the coalition that reagan put to gether seems to have crumbled. Hald the party hates the preumptive nominee. THey will hold their bose and vote for him and his 100 year was. But they eill vote for him enthusiastically if Hillary is the nominee.

I still think in this election that is not enough to win the election but that is really bot the issues.

We do not simply need a win....we need a mandate...we need a nominee who can win 350 electoral votes. We need on with long coattails so thatwe can capitalize on the 29 GOP resignations in the House; So that we can have 58 Democratic Senators rather than 54. We need that adge for Iraq; we need it for Healthcare reform... We need it dor Scotus nominations; and we need it for a sane approach to immigration.

Hillary may well be marginally more competant and can still win the general election...but it is doubtful that she will be able to have the madate or the coattails to change the direction of the country.

There are too manycritical issues at stake.

Now go vote.

Obama will have a lot of attacks aimed at him. Once they start happening, some of the percentage points over McCain, I think, will be reduced. I think it will be a close race no matter which Democrat wins the nomination.

On the other hand, if the electorate is actually more likely not to want a Republican as our next president, as the OP is suggesting, it wouldn't matter whether it's Obama or Clinton---a Democrat is going to win.

not about the issues and who will best represent us it's about cult like popularity. Don't mind the man behind the curtain just look at the oversized floating head talking sh*t!

but at least his strategy is winning over the voters and not stealing the delegates. That's all I need to hear. We saw how well the last round of vote stealing worked out...that was 2000 and GWB.

43. A few questions here:
If you believe this:

"My gut tells me that if it's something Bush wants, no matter what it is, don't give it to him."

How do you reconcile it with this:

Hillary Clinton "I trust George Bush as his word"
Hillary Clinton: aye on IWR
Hillary Clinton: aye on Kyl Lieberman
Hillary Clinton: aye on selling cluster bombs to foreign countries that slaughter innocent civilians and children.

Frankly, you post makes no internal sense.

55. The truth is, the Democratic Party of Texas is going with OB
An e-mail from the party.

Dear Fellow Democrats:

Several items of note:

FIRST, Midland Supporters of Barack Obama are going to be meeting at the Democratic Headquarters on Saturday, February 16, 2008, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. They will be conducting a mock precinct convention to get a better understanding of how the precinct conventions will work in a Presidential year. Everyone is invited to attend.

SECONDLY, please remember that early voting starts Tuesday, February 19, 2008, and continues through Friday, February 29. There is early voting on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, February 23rd and 24th. On the first week, the elections office is open during normal business hours. On the weekend of the 23rd and 24th, they will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. The second week of early voting they will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

There is early voting also at Cogdell Learning Center, 201 W. Florida, during those same hours.

Please try to get everyone out to vote!

ALSO OF NOTE: There is also a Texas Democratic Party fund raiser which will be held at the home of P**** and Bob , 10 San Clemente Circle, Odessa, Texas 79765 on Sunday, February 24th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be $100.00 per person. The attendees will meet Boyd Morehead, the Texas Democratic Party Chairman. If you are a sustaining member of the Democratic Party, the tickets are only $50.00. Get in free with a photo of Hillary.

I also received an e-mail earlier this morning that former President Bill Clinton may be at the West Texas A&M University Field House in Canyon Saturday morning around 10:00 a.m. - weather permitting. If anyone is interested in attending, please let me know and I will provide you with more information as I receive it.

Finally, I have received notice from the VAN Coordinator that they have updated VAN as much as possible for this upcoming election. Any precinct chairs who want to sign up VAN for their precinct need to call me right away - unless you have already done this!

Early voting is TODAY.

And compare the two candidate's positions, fine.

But if you're going with your gut, and your gut doesn't even know the other candidate, I would suggest that might not be the best way to select a candidate.

so instead of following your logic of doing the opposite of what Bush does, you are in fact doing exactly the same thing Bush does.

I recognize that the Right hates Hillary with venom, but give it some time, they will hate Obama just as much soon.

From the American Spectator:

Another Perspective
Helping Hillary
By Jennifer Rubin
Published 2/19/2008 12:08:26 AM
Let's face it: Hillary Clinton needs help. She is trailing in the delegate count, is on the receiving side of atrocious media coverage, and faces a rock star opponent who seems to have captured the momentum.

Many conservatives share a common cause with her: slowing down or stopping Barack Obama. Yes, he has considerable weaknesses which John McCain will be able to exploit, but the prospect of losing Clinton (with all of her baggage) as the potential opponent in the general election is making conservatives queasy. She is not used to taking advice from vast right-wing conspirators, but, frankly, her own side has been doing a lousy job.

68. I wouldn't be so confident. According to current polling, Hillary loses the election
to John McCain, while Obama beats him.

I'm not sure how she can make that up. Even if she does, it'll be another very close election like the last 2.

Obama is way ahead to start out with. Much of that lead will disappear, but I think he'll maintain a clear lead because of the clear contrast he offers. We need a clean break from the past and Obama offers that to us.

We voted for Hillary at 9:00 this morning. I've admired her since I first became aware of her. And I think she is like her husband (and Al Gore and Jimmy Carter) in this respect: No matter what happens in this election, she will be working for us. She is a super intelligent, decent person and a Democrat to be proud of. I just don't believe the mean, hateful things I read about her on this site are written by Democrats. If I did, I wouldn't come back.

96. I voted for Hillary today.
Wouldn't it be such a nice little bitch slap to all the Pukes to have the Clintons back in the White House? My motivation is emotional. I hate the right wing. Barack Obama might actually be a great leader, but he doesn't represent their nightmare. I want to stick my tongue out and say "HA-HA you suck. 8 years and you did nothing."

She probably won't win. I know that. I gave her campaign $25 a few months ago. Her people called me to get me to go vote for her. I got mailers. I felt like I kinda owed it to her to go ahead and give her the nod. I know she screwed up and supported Bush's stupid war. I know she isn't exactly the type of candidate that would do the things I would do, like slash the defense budget or go hard core on environmental regulation. Obama isn't talking about doing those things either. I would love to see our submarines sinking whalers and our state department pressuring countries to halt deforestation. Those things just aren't going to happen under either of them.

So it comes down to my desire to humiliate Repukes. A Clinton win in November would be more humiliating than an Obama win.
