Barack has the momentum in Texas
by: News
Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 08:14:30 AM CST

Hillary has had Texas all to herself for the last week while Barack has been in Wisconsin preparing for today's primary. Given this head start, you would think that Hillary's Texas poll numbers would have gotten a bump since she's dominated the local headlines.
But ironically enough, it appears that the more Texans see of Hillary, the more Barack's numbers rise.

Just a couple of months ago, Hillary had a 30 point lead in Texas. But the latest polls show Barack is closing the gap...all while Barack has been campaiging in other states. Now that he's arriving in Texas today for rallies in San Antonio and Houston, we expect our momentum to continue as more people get to know Barack.

Here are the latest Texas polls...

SurveyUSA Poll
Obama - 45%
Clinton - 50%

CNN Opinion Research Poll
Clinton - 50%
Obama - 48%

http://blog.texansforobama.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=849

Survey USA.......

Depending on Hispanic Turnout, Clinton is Either Slightly Ahead, or Not so Slightly Ahead, in Texas Democratic Primary: In a Democratic Primary in Texas today, 02/18/08, 15 days to the vote, Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama 50% to 45%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KTRK-TV Houston, KTVT-TV Dallas, and KRLD-AM radio Dallas. BUT: there is "give" in these numbers that must be mentioned in the same breath. Among Hispanic voters, Clinton leads 2:1. SurveyUSA estimates that Hispanics make-up 32% of Democratic primary voters in a Primary today. If Hispanics vote in larger numbers, Clinton's lead is larger than the 5 points shown here. If Hispanics vote in smaller numbers, Obama runs stronger than these numbers show. Among white voters, Clinton leads by 12. Among black voters, Obama leads by 57. Race Gap is 69 points. Among males, Obama leads by 20. Among females, Clinton leads by 27. Gender Gap is 47 points. Among registered Democrats, Clinton up 14. Among Independents, Obama up 28. Among voters under age 50, Obama by 6. Among Voters 50+, Clinton by 17. Age Gap is 23 points. Clinton ahead in South Texas and West Texas. Obama and Clinton within the margin of sampling error in North Texas, East Texas, and Central Texas.

3. She gets annoying after a while
Margaret Carlson said that she is like a scolding parent telling you that you have fallen in love with the wrong person. If Texas moves into the Obama column then Hillary should plan to go to the Cayman Islands on vacation with Huckabee.

6. You know, I think you hit it on the head....
...her arrogance...like she knows it all and she WILL make you do what is best for you ~~ in her superior opinion ~~ even if you have a different point of view.

I truly detest the woman.

21. And it doesn't help Hillary's cause...
...when Ann Lewis does her best impression of SNL's "Church Lady" and tries
to get the public to hate Obama by accusing him of being "a plagiarist."

I'm sorry, but Ann Lewis came off as a shallow old bitty, on her way
to play bridge. Lewis said, "Well...I just think that this is
information that people need to know..."

Professional gossip spreaders. How classy.

4. I hope to hell that the Clinton machine gets stopped in its tracks...
...and stopped soon before it destroys the Democratic Party.

I am to the point after listening to her whine and reading her supporters'posts on the DU that I truly destest Hillary Clinton.

5. Wow. SUSA has been very accurate thus far.
Though I was skeptical of their methodology early on, I have to admit that they have been more reliable than any other poll thus far.

I believe this result is correct.

Sorry Texas, you no longer matter.

10. SUSA has been reliable since Super Tuesday yea....
before that though, it was Zogby who was mostly right and SUSA was all over the place. Now, Zogby has taken some heat since his California numbers were so off (and other states as well).

7. I'm in Texas, and it would really surprise me if he beats her here.
Of course, I'm in a blue county, so it may be that he's more popular in the red counties than here.

11. I'll be at the Obama rally in Dallas tomorrow
It is Wednesday morning at Reunion Arena. I can't wait! For contrast, Mike Huckabee is having a "rally" in the Dallas area that same day at Collin County Community College.

18. Wow. The Giuliani parallels just keep on coming.
Bet everything on a few big states, lose a bunch of contests in a row, and then find out that people in your few big states like you less the more they see you.

24. The Ballad of Hillary Clinton
The Ballad of Hillary Clinton

Way out in the west
Where the folks are the best,
But the towns are really remote.
Rides our gun-totin’ pal
That Hillary gal,
And she’s courtin’ the Hispanic vote.

Yup, she’s packin’ a gun
And it ain’t just for fun.
They say she’s shot seven or eight.
She’s angry and mean,
The worst that we’ve seen
When she’s roundin’ up each delegate.

“Howdy, you all!”
She says with a drawl.
“I’m looking for Spaniards, you see.
Now ya do what I says,
I’m runnin’ for prez,
So just hand them over to me!”

From the back comes a shout
“I’m afraid that they’re out
At a rally just down the street.
‘Cause a new guy’s come in
And they’re voting for him,
He’s the one they all want to meet!”

She gallops away,
In tears, so they say.
Amid shouts of “Obama’s our man!”
With voices so loud,
A people so proud…
“Yes, we can! Yes, we can! Yes, we can!!

26. And that is after Hillary and Bill spent several days -- each --- here
Barack arrives today -- let's see what happens now. We are on the ground already. My wife is a precinct captain. I am just a pain in the ass, but I do like knocking on doors and visiting with folks. Turning Houston Blue in 2008! Go Big O.
