Voted in WI for Obama! -2 (-16 with windchill) but clear
I was #214 at my polling place and I voted at 8am one hour after polls opened. I think turnout will be great!

9. High turnout anywhere in Dane County is good for Obama
In the next 1:30, I'm gonna head over to Gordon Commons where the students who live near the Kohl Center vote. The Union didnt look to full, but I think it was just people stoppin in when they had a chance. The Polling station near Cap Foods is where my friend said it was pretty empty, but I think he may have been wrong on some of those things.

22. I think most of Wisconsin has optical scan machines--each county chooses their own supplier/method
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 12:41 PM by samdogmom
I participated in a hand recount of a local race about a year ago. The optical scanners were very accurate. We had the actual paper ballots to count and generally our counts matched the machine counts. The only differences we found were when someone "circled" the fill-in object instead of coloring in the oval/rectangle--so the machine didn't count the vote. Or the voter wrote someone in and forgot to color in the oval/rectangle next to the write-in line so the machine didn't automatically sort the ballot for a hand-count of the write-in.

The vote tallies for the recount changed slightly, but the overall result remained the same. Our race went over two counties so we had Diebold and ES&S equipment.

On Edit: Most counties use the same equipment because we elect County Clerks and one of their jobs is to oversee elections--but not all counties in Wisconsin use only one system. If you're interested, here's a 2006 report on the various voting methods used by municipality in Wisconsin: http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=2728

24. I went to the link you posted to see if I could find my voting area
to see who our supplier/method is. I hope I can find it. This is interesting information. Thanks for sharing.

dry cold :)

no big deal, you go from a heated car to a heated bldg back to a heated car, small price to pay for voting.
