SUSA - Obama pulls within 9 in Ohio

Democratic Poll:

Two Weeks to Must-Win Ohio, Clinton 9 Points Atop Obama: In a Democratic Primary for President of the United States in Ohio today, 2/16/08, two weeks till the votes are counted, Hillary Clinton defeats Barack Obama, 52% to 43%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WHIO-TV Dayton. But her lead has narrowed. Just one week ago, Clinton held a 17 point lead at 56% to 39%.

In our latest poll, Clinton leads by 35 points among seniors, by 30 points in greater Columbus, by 28 points among women, by 21 points among whites, by 21 points among voters focused on the Economy, and by 17 points among registered Democrats. Obama leads by by 48 points among blacks, by 20 points among the youngest voters, and by 16 points among men. The two are tied in greater Cleveland, tied among Moderates, tied among voters focused on Health Care. Among voters younger than Obama, Obama leads by 5. Among voters older than John McCain, Clinton leads by 45. Among voters in between, Clinton leads by 15.

Interactive Tracking Graphs Show Obama Closing: SurveyUSA's interactive tracking graphs, a SurveyUSA exclusive, show Obama gaining significant ground among men. One week ago, Clinton and Obama were tied among men. Today, Obama is up 16 points. One week ago, Clinton led by 9 among voters under age 50. Today, Obama is up by 2 points. To access SurveyUSA's interactive tracking graphs, click on the Triangle-T when looking at the crosstabs.

Filtering: 2,000 state of Ohio adults were interviewed 02/17/08 and 02/18/08. Of them, 1,789 were registered to vote. Of them, 733 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted in the 03/04/08 Democratic Primary, or to be likely to vote at the precinct on Election Day. Because Ohio's 141 convention delegates are awarded proportionally, the size of the winner's margin is significant. Results of the 02/19/08 Wisconsin Primary may affect what happens in Ohio.

(on edit: this is not up at the SUSA website yet - but on a local news website; video here)

7. This is why that Q-Poll was complete bullshit
It measured from Feb 6-12. We all knew Obama would have momentum after all these wins, and it continues in OH.

8. the pattern starts all over again...
the more voters see of obama the more his numbers go way up....accordingly the more voters see and hear of clinton the more her numbers GO DOWN...sorry, but its just the cold hard facts.

9. Wow! I'm starting to doubt that my vote in PA will matter.
The only thing that concerns me are those dramatic shifts. Tied among men to a 16-point lead in just one week? Is that possible?

14. The more people learn about Obama, the better his numbers.
I hope the pattern holds.

And don't worry - your vote will still be courted - heavily, by both sides!

12. Nice news.
With the new polls and Wisconsin and Hawaii results coming out later today, it'll be nice to see the morning Obama basher's posts be pushed down into the trash heap.

Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 12:54 PM by sloppyjoe25s
Polls are still not votes, but this is FANTASTIC news!

It is great to see his campaign starting to build momentum even in OHio - the absolute Clinton Firewall!

15. Isn't it obvious that Obama will win both Ohio and Texas?
Then when he does, Hillary will say how she will compete until Pennsylvania, which she will also lose.

16. Ohio
I have been thinking on March 4 Hillary would win Ohio while Obama wins Rhode ISland,Vermont, and Texas but this suggests Obama has a shot at Ohio.He Is just now starting to campagin In Ohio and he Is only 9 down. This Is huge.He has time to campagin. And If SurveyUSA has It like this It Is likely to be accute.

18. Hillary might not win another state.
I don't mean to be smug or overconfident, but it is quite possible. She's only won 11 of 34, and those wins were when things were going much better for her. Going into March 4 on a ten game losing streak is going to make things difficult for her.

22. Very good news for Obama

But still a long way until the OH primary. Anything could happen. It's too early to say that Hillary won't win any other states. The point is, even if she does win TX and OH but by less than 10 points, she's in huge trouble. And right now, it seems very unlikely she'll win either by more than 10 points.
