is Hillary trying to get PLEDGED delegates to switch?
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8583.html

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign intends to go after delegates whom Barack Obama has already won in the caucuses and primaries if she needs them to win the nomination.

This strategy was confirmed to me by a high-ranking Clinton official on Monday. And I am not talking about superdelegates, those 795 party big shots who are not pledged to anybody. I am talking about getting pledged delegates to switch sides.

1. That's the rumor

But I haven't seen confirmation yet... and, apparently, Hillary's campaign has issued a denial.

21. Which network, what show...
are there links to web sources (video from the show, preferably).

This would be a huge story... and flies in the face of the denials issued by her campaign.

25. Here - I'll post the quote for those that are too lazy to click

"We have not, are not and will not pursue the pledged delegates of Barack Obama. It's now time for the Obama campaign to be clear about their intentions."

from the Hillary camp

Just askin'. Sounds like damage control to me - maybe within 48 hours they'll be saying 'Barack Obama refuses to rule out chasing Hillary's delegates.'

9. Here's one-
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/16/obama-team-trying-to-inst_n_87018.html

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) who support Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for president are pressuring their colleagues backing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), telling them to listen to voters and switch their endorsements

18. uh.. .try again...
that's an article about Obama asking for members of the CBC to switch their endorsements.

All of these would be Super Delegates, not pledged delegate. Super Delegates are not elected to the delegate post, they are appointed by the DNC. They can vote for whoever they want. They are not representing anything to do with the caucus or primary of their home state.

27. no they make the statement that if he gets the popular
vote but hillary wins via super delegates democrats as a whole are disenfranchised because the DNC chose the candidate, not the people. His assertion is that SD should vote with the will of their constituents.

28. No, it was not started by the Obama camp
It's a article in Politico written by one Roger Simon.

Here is the article.

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/02/19/clinton_plans_to_target_obamas_pledged_delegates.html

However, it used unnamed sources and does NOT provide a independent source for the story.

That makes it a rumor, but certainly not a fact.

The Clinton campaign has already issued a denial.

I don't know who Roger Simon is... but I wish some journalistic standards were practiced on these web blogs or zines or whatever the hell they are.

A story like this is a SERIOUS CHARGE, much like the 60 Minute story on Bush's Air National Guard records. Let's hope that this isn't the same kind of hoax, meant to make either Clinton OR Obama look bad.

24. Both sides have agreed not to go after pledged delegates
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/clinton_spokesperson_we_will_n.php

Hillary spokesperson Phil Singer is adamantly denying a report this morning in The Politico quoting an anonymous campaign official suggesting that the Clinton campaign will pursue Obama's pledged delegates. Singer sends me this:

We have not, are not and will not pursue the pledged delegates of Barack Obama. It's now time for the Obama campaign to be clear about their intentions.
It's worth noting that the Politico story quotes a Clinton official predicting that both campaigns will pursue the pledged dels. The Obama camp has not yet put out a statement on whether they'll pursue Hillary's pledged dels, though they very likely will soon.

More in a bit.

Late Update: The Obama campaign has ruled out this tactic, too. Obama spokesperson Tommy Vietor sends me this:

"We would absolutely not use these sorts of tactics. Senator Obama is focused on winning contests and earning the support of pledged delegates."
