but I just can't bring myself to watch the new one, the original was so much better. As to how I could catch the reference without having watched the new one....it has something to do with time travel...yeah thats it.

I did not start watching it until the fifth one, season 20 or so, because I was fairly young at the time. As they replayed these things endlessly, I did eventually see Tom Baker stuff.
