FACT CHECK: Hillary timed her stump speech to pre-empt Obama
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 10:11 PM by jefferson_dem
Not waiting

Hillary Clinton times her speech to pre-empt Obama's...and now Obama's taking the stage in Houston as Hillary speaks -- a challenge to the networks.

But they can hardly resist a victory speech.

41. I have less of a problem with the stump speech aspect.
I'd think the losing candidate wouldn't want to dwell on, and attract attention to, a loss, but a basic concession and congratulations is always in order, and *then* promote yourself.

But if (1) you skip the concession, (2) skip the congratulations, (3) attack the winner, and (4) reschedule your speech to intrude on the winner's speech, then you deserve to have your political ass handed to you.

33. Why would she even plan a speech 30 minutes prior to the polls closing?
Rescheduling only made sense. But, it did put the networks in a bad way.

9. A good campaign would have come up with something new
to keep the networks engaged, or teased them on and on re: a concession speech, to keep the cameras on her.

Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 10:20 PM by Kristi1696
The possibility occurred to me, but I really hoped that wasn't the case...that she was honestly delayed.

That is a sorry tactic, beneath her as a candidate and a woman.

19. Yes, that's exactly what she did last time, and then filibustered
Fool me once ...

So the networks, realizing no one wants to watch her drone on and on one more time, went to the speech people do want to watch.

22. hillary took a huge step down in stature tonight.
you'll notice that kucinich didn't get to give a victory speech either

hillary is becoming second tier, and is ceasing to be a viable candidate.
