It Is Time For Obama Supporters To Act More Gracious
Unless Hillary manages a blowout in either Ohio or Texas, we have got ourselves an amazing Democratic nominee in Barack Obama. If you support him, I urge you to do your best to begin to mend things with Clinton supporters. To do otherwise would accomplish little at this stage of the game. Please think twice before posting.

61. I'd rather you'd admonish your fellow Obama supporters...
...to act more graciously because it's the right thing to do -- and not because you "will need them come this summer and fall."

I'm not singling you out -- I just want you to see how it looks through the eyes of a "non-believer"; i.e., "We'd better be nice to the Clinton supporters from now on, because we need their votes (and money!) for Obama."

That's what the Dem Party has been doing to queers for years. That's why it stands out to me so clearly: I'm accustomed to getting my teeth kicked in clear through to the back of my skull -- and then, at the eleventh hour, it's all "Let's make-nicey-nice! We didn't really mean all that shit we piled on you all these months, and, oh, by the way, we could use a few extra dollars (MasterCard accepted!), and we can count on your vote... right?"

Call me the ultimate cynic, but that's how it sounds. I suppose because that's how it is.

When Hillary and Bill Clinton stop lying about Barack Obama, I will then comply
Otherwise, there is much work to be done to make sure the Clintons finally drop out. If Clinton supporters can't face that, well then too damn bad.

It is too important to get the correct person in the White House and that person is Barack Obama in my view. If the Clintons have to lie and distort to try to win and not expect blowback, then they truly know nothing.

Is it mean to express the obvious? Is it cruel to show the truth? Is it wrong to fight for what you think is correct? Are we supposed to shut up?

88. Agree wholeheartedly! Let her first be gracious about Obama's
string of 10 big wins. Then let her be gracious enough to think of the Democratic Party by letting us move forward with the business at hand, busting McCain's gonads and picking up several more seats in Congress. If she continues to drag this primary on and on after these blowout losses, she doesn't deserver our graciousness.

Myself, and others, have spent months explaining why it is important to be civil and not rip other dem candidates. I was told numerous times it was part of process and blah blah. Now, here's the result, while gearing up to fight the repub we have to mend fences with each other. Thatnks for making it htat much hard, you wankers.

I think we do need to counter any lies, distortions or other negative things that are said about Obama - but attacks on HRC or HRC supporters would be wrong. I think all of us at some point had some candidate that we really wanted, lose - so we do know what they are likely going through.

was totally unacceptable. All Obama's so-called 'fact statements' about JE's 'attacks'. It's like anyone who disagreed with him was attacking/victimizing him - and, with all the money and celebrity behind him compared to JE, I think the game he played was, basically, dirty old-school, political, pool.

Sorry, just can't forgive/forget that much.

34. What are you speaking of?
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 10:47 PM by karynnj
Edwards attacked both HRC and Obama at various times. He attacked Congress demanding they do things that were not going to work. The attack I think you are referring to was simply listing his Senate record which did not match his 2008 persona. Edwards needed to explain that change, not pretend it didn't exist. He did a great job bringing up poverty and moving the others to a stronger position there. It should impress you that Obama flew to NC to meet with Edwards in this busy time period.

Edwards opted for a very angry, populist, radical campaign that did not capture enough votes in Iowa where he spend a hugh amount of time. It then failed everywhere else. Obama won by having a solid ground game in many states. He has also run the cleanest race.

I am a new poster on DU, but have been a frequent visitor to this site for over 4 years. I am a supporter of Hillary Clinton, and I have refrained from posting because of what I perceive as excessive hate speech against Hillary (and Barak too). It saddens me at the clear split in this party. I like Barak too, but my choice would be Hillary. I will support whoever the Democratic nomination goes to though as our ultimate goal has to be getting the Republicans out of the White House. Go Dems!!!!

I'm trying to like Obama, since it's apparent now that he will probably be our nominee and I will be obligated to vote for him, but some of you guys (and you know who you are) make it really, really hard. I started out this primary season with an "Anybody But Clinton" state of mind, but the hateful words directed at her here would do the Right Wing proud.

That's what primaries are about. I have no interest in demonizing Hillary since she still could end up being our nominee and I don't want to poison the well. Both are so much better than that old has been McCain.

Most of it specifically directed at those who support the other candidate. Nastiness and name-calling that does no-one any good. When both sides have been responsible, I don't really see why it should only be ONE side that ought to make an effort to be conciliatory; ideally, both groups of supporters can admit to less-than-ideal behaviour and agree to mend their fences.

You're a lonely ass virgin loser who lives in his momma's basement who harbors animosity towards everyone because no woman has ever touched you and no one has ever befriended you, and you sit there being eaten alive each day by your own shortcomings that drive you to the brink of insanity, so your loser ass has nothing better to do than come here and think you're cool for a moment by posting braindead bullshit. "hey everybody! Look at me! I'm here! Hellooooooo!!!! Give me attention!!! I need attention!!! I'm trolling! Won't you all give me attention??? Please????"

Fucking loser. Have your 5 minutes of attention. Come morning, you'll be gone. Then off you go to find some other message board where you can post your loser stupidity to get 5 more minutes of attention from people you'll never meet. In fact, I'm sure you're giddy with excitement now that I'm even talking to you. You are so deprived of attention that even someone talking down to you for 30 seconds is enough to bring you joy. Must be tough to be such a lonely little fuck, I almost feel for ya.

56. When Hillary Clinton lies prostrate, puckers up, and
kisses my ass, then maybe, just maybe I will.

Until that happens Her Shrilliness can piss off.

57. The race is not over yet but I think Obama supporters have the right to be happy and excited
Obama was ridiculed and written off some 2 months ago. I had to deal with a year of the media telling me Hillary was the presumptive nominee. I'll be damned if I cannot be thrilled that Obama is doing well. That American's are really waking up and voting NO to the politics of yesterday.

58. I truly am thinking of sitting out the general election. More than once lately I've seen Obama
supporters on DU say that they not only want Hillary to lose the nomination, but they also want to oust her from the Senate. Sorry, but I will not stand with these assholes. I've been consoling myself lately by reminding myself that Hillary can still do good work in the Senate if she doesn't get the nomination, so to find out that Obama supporters want her out of the Senate too does not sit well with me and has, frankly, turned me off supporting Obama in the GE.

I don't care how much you dislike the behavior of some of the obama supporters. I think they're immature assholes too. But to put your distaste towards those empty headed morons as being more important than taking back our democracy from the destructive hands of republicans, then you're just simply being a moron. I mean that with heartfelt and kind sincerity actually.

Put things in perspective.

Friend, deciding to sit out a general election because of internet discussion board supporters....?

Please try to do what I am doing if Clinton gets the nomination - thinking about what's best for the country.

Two more supreme court justices are likely to retire - if conservative justices are appointed like Alito and Roberts, it will frankly plunge this country into a period of darkness like we have yet to see.

Any democratic candidate will ease the suffering of working class americans during the impending economic crisis that is on the horizon. These are real people's lives we are talking about.

John McCain is a bloodthirsty warmonger that eagerly and aggressively wants to attack Iran, and wants to sustain our aggression in Iraq indefinitely - how many more thousands of dead US boys are girls are you comfortable with so that you can sit out the general election in protest of nasty internet forum trolls?

Please think this through.

Okay.... I'm picking my icon back up now..... YAY WE WON TONIGHT WOO HOO!!! GOBAMA!! ;)

70. Sorry but I would never call for Obama to be ousted from the Senate so to see his supporters
hoping she loses her seat has pissed me off in a way that is even surprising me. I want no association with these people and do not want to stand with them in the general election. Sitting it out is preferable to voting for McCain so I am at peace with doing so.

Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 02:14 AM by Political Heretic
...and handing the supreme court completely over to ultra conservatives... all because some people in the internet pissed you off?

Can you understand why that sounds like lunacy to me?

Show me where supporters are calling for hillary to be ousted from the Senate? I'm calling bullshit. I've never seen it. Is it more than some looney troll? I've never see it as a theme of obama supporters - EVER.

I DO see lots of obama supporters talking about putting her on the bench, or positions within the administration.

I do not see any Obama supporters saying they want Hillary out of the Senate. I have seen many saying they want her on the Supreme Court or part of his administration though. Stop trying to be divisive.

87. Could you please link to some of these posts?
Because I have not seen a single one saying this.

Certainly not seen it as any kind of pattern at all. In fact, I've seen a lot of people talking about positions in the administration where they'd like to see Hillary. Many talking about the Supreme Court (which confuses me, but I'm cool!)

So... Im starting to get the feeling you are just being purposely divisive. :(

89. How about a link to a whole thread?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4651425

I've also seen the sentiment pop up on various other threads but I'm not about to go search them out just to prove what I said.

91. Okay, I see a dumbass original poster - and I'm going to reply and say so. But
after that I see one other nutjob going off about war crimes trials -- other than that I see an OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF PEOPLE TELLING THE OP THAT HE IS A DUMBASS. LOTS OF THEM OBAMA SUPPORTERS.

So what is your deal? If one crazy person says something ridiculous on the internet, you lump and entire group of people together, reject a candidate, refuse to vote in a general election and the country be damned?

How old are you?

93. Ok so a couple of nutjobs - possible even the same one popped up in other threads....
...I bet you there were the same overwhelming number of people on both sides of the fence right there to tell them how stupid they are.

You know what you've read.... at an INTERNET FOURM.... and THAT will be what you remember come november?

Oh my god holy lord.... :eyes:

If Clinton is the nominee, I'll vote for her in a heartbeat -- and don't even think for a second I can't find a few crazy nutjobs in the Clinton camp saying some disgusting things.

The only difference is .... I know they're just crazy, and its NOT representative of all Clinton supporters.

Give me a friggen break... try to put your country ahead of a stupid discussion board, PLEASE.

68. I agree with you, and I'm an Obama supporter.
I think both sides need to move towards some modicum of respect. Otherwise, we may not be able to mend the fractures we've created in time to do what I know we can do in the GE.

Win gracefully. Lose gracefully. It doesn't matter which candidate we end up with. Any of our candidates, including those who have already exited the race, are better than McCain.

the Clintons stop attacking Barack and when their supporters on this board stop posting their attacks to rub it in our noses. They were all over the board yesterday positively gleeful that Barack was being accused of plagarism.

86. I agree....but
If Hillary takes a losing fight all the way to the convention, it will be very hard to be gracious.

Though if she withdraws gracefully within the next month or so --- we have every reason to be gracious and work with Hillary either as a VP, Senate Leader, or new Secretary of State.

Good post :)

95. I was proud...
to be a Biden supporter and count myself among those who tried and succeeded in supporting our candidate without trashing any other candidate or their supporters. We took pride in the fact that we rose above the mud-slinging knowing that it only made us look childish and immature.

I have found Obama supporters to be some of the most vicious and mean-spirited of any group. I blame most of their conduct on their relatively young age and lack of experience. I hope that they will soon understand how important it is to be gracious in victory. So far "most" of them have demonstrated a complete lack of class and maturity. This kind of attitude is not only a reflection of their inexperience with the process, but it feeds into some who believe that they are cult-like, relying on each other's poor judgement to take it one step further...if he/she can say that, I can top that...etc. etc.

Sad, very sad indeed.

-P
