There are the FACTS about the Wisconsin results
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 11:07 PM by thesubstanceofdreams
Obama leading by 15 points, 57-42, with 71% precints in.
This is actually the closest Hillary has come to beat him in the last 9 contests. Yes, not only has Obama won 9 primaries in a row, but all of them by a margin of at least 15%.
This is an overwhelmingly white, blue collar state.
This was a primary, not a caucus.
This is a swing state that Kerry won by a narrow margin in 2004.
Once again, Obama's margin of victory is wider than the polls predicted.
If the plagiarism swiftboating had any effect, it was in Obama's favor.

These are the facts. Draw your own conclusions.

8. Talk on MSNBC that the Clinton campaign believes the
negative campaigning worked and is planning on hitting even harder. My stomach is turning over the prospect that she can (and is willing to) destroy the democratic party as she goes down.

Some outrage, document, third-cousin, creative parsing of tonight's speech. I'm not sure, but I'm betting they'll drop a bomb to disrupt tomorrow's news cycle.

10. Obama won among women, all income groups, tied in union workers, all ages except seniors
A mostly white state. She lost even in her base.

Wisconsin's demographics were favorable to her. Yet she got thumped.

I think perhaps the most significant exit poll was the one showing hillary was the one too negative....I think it backfired on her big time. She was not supposed to lose by this much. I can't help but think that the negative crap bit her in her own butt.

Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 11:24 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
Kerry won by a considerably larger margin in the 2004 exit polls than he did in the final vote tallies. In fact, Wisconsin was one of the states suspected as having been "tampered with" in that election. What has been done since then to assure us all of transparentt elections? NOTHING. Here we are in 2008. The election was called for Obama with only 49% of the vote in. How can they do that? Where were these votes tallied? Who saw them first? HOw did CNN get them so fast? How can anyone trust our voting machines and any election numbers they feed to us?

20. Thanks for reminding us about this serious issue!

:hi:

However, today exit polls matched the final results quite well.
Obama leading by 16% now with 78% precints in.

21. The Edwards voters have all gone over to Obama.
As a former Edwards voter (by way of Kucinich) this was clear to me as my state of New Hampshire voted for Clinton. The progressive voters were not going to wind up in the Clinton camp unless she managed to win the nomination without them.

It appears that Obama has taken a commanding lead. (Actually this was clear after super tuesday.) He will be our candidate in November. Perhaps it will turn out that the voting population was not ready for either a woman or a non-white president, but I think that will not be the case. I have become wary of optimism since the stunning disaster of 2004, so I am warily inclined to believe that we have made the best choice and that we will win in November.

(this was on being optimistic about Wisconsin)

Obama hasn't underperformed in any state since before South Carolina. He has either met expectations or exceeded them. There is good reason for optimism, they are running a great, professional campaign.
