Why do people target Michelle Obama?
I don't really care either way, but why do people seem to go so far off the beaten political path to try and hunt her down? It's pretty funny.

(This is not a proxy post.)

31. Nor can the majority of posters on DU. C'mon. Get real.
Obama's wife is in for the ride of her life.

Hillary Clinton played patty-cake compared to what Obama is in for at the hands of the Republicans.

It will be fascinating to watch.

Of their country..regardless of what happens or not. We are proud we live in a free society, we are proud that we have won the Senate and House, we are proud that we have the greatest economy in the world, we are proud that when terrorist attacked we came together, we are proud that stood against the Bush regime for the last 8 years and are turning this country around, we are proud that we can still vote for whoever the hell we want to. We, in a word did'nt have to an election that made us proud for the very first time in our adult lives.

Do you mean like the attacks on Chelsea, bill, Hillary's campaignmanager, etc. Yeh, why?
She made a stupid comment and will eventually reconcile the public w/it. They're all making stupid moves, it's how they reconcil the moves w/ the public that makes or breaks them.

17. In contrast..who has asked ANYTHING of Cindy McCain???
Mrs. McCain doesn't campaign--except to smile dully behind her husband. If she has a brain, a thought, anything going on upstairs WE DON'T KNOW. And, since she hasn't gone off on her own--as far as I know--she's not a press target. But Michelle, Chelsea, and any other surrogates are going to get scrutiny. It's fair and deserved. What can I say?

19. I don't think people are going after her.
She's said two newsworthy things - things someone with more experience wouldn't say.

The first was that she'd have to think about whether or not to support Clinton, and the second was that she was never, in her adult life, proud of her country. Both came out wrong, and I don't think she meant them the way people are using them against her, but nonetheless, those are the kinds of things one shouldn't say on the campaign trail.

She's not been targeted too bad yet. Just wait.

21.  I think it really was race this time.
Obama is racially neutral, since he is clearly half White and half Black. Michelle is not.

I am betting that we see the Republicans spend a lot of time contrasting blond Cindi McCain with Black Michelle Obama.

I think Cindi looks like a rich bitch nightmare, but to some Republicans she looks like the model First Lady.

I am betting that the GOP will have cameras on Michelle 24/7 watching for a Cynthia McKinney "crazy Black woman with wild hair and a cell phone" moment. They will probably try to provoke her with hecklers, dirty tricks, smears. Anything to get her angry.

And the story about starting a charity to take drugs from the kiddies? That is worse that Guiliani's wife. Whatever happened to Republican family values? It is a good thing that two women can not breed or they would give fertility pills to Cindi and Katherine Harris and create the uUber-Republican Mega Death Queen from Hell, who looks something like this

Cindi when they told her they were cutting off her source. Now that is a bad hair day.

33. ah yes, I just read about her drug use/theft at dailykos here you go>
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/20/64612/4690/438/460265

John McCain follows the usual "family values" profile of Republican social climbers. He divorced first wife Carol in April 1980 and married Cindy one month later. Infidelity? Hell no!... they were just "friends."

Cindy who is 18 years younger than Gramps McCain and she paid for McCain's first campaign for Congress in 1982 with loans from her well endowed trust fund. Her father's business and political contacts helped gain her husband a foothold into Arizona politics.

Cindy's biggest claim to fame is in 1989 she developed an addiction to perocet and vicodin, two powerful morphine based pain killers. In 1993 she was caught stealing percocet from supply of the American Voluntary Medical Team, a charity she founded to provide health care and medications to war victims in underdeveloped nations. The DEA was investigated her and with the intervention of her well connected parents and McCain himself, Cindy got off the hook with the usual 90 day trip to the posh rehab. The American Voluntary Medical Team folded shortly after it ceased to be a supply point for Cindy's opiate habit.

The DEA agreed to keep Cindy's little misadventure in Lala Land from the public, but then Cindy went and terminated the guy who reported her to the DEA and the details of Cindy's sordid past as a suburban trophy wife junkie all came out when the fired guy filed a wrongful termination suit against Cindy.

A few weeks after Cindy came clean about her addiction the Variety Club cancelled her Humanitarian of the Year Award. Boo hoo!... Another respectable Republican mother of the Harper Valley PTA goes down. This is just a little Peyton Place of Republican family values and Cindy's a Harper Valley hypocrite.

the hope is that the candidate will react on an emotional level and be thrown off of his/her game so to speak. It's a below the belt and desperate attempt to bait someone into saying something that could be used against them later on.
