1. If those conditions do not account for the media
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 07:52 AM by Warren Stupidity
then Obama is making a huge mistake. It isn't the money so much as it is the almost complete control over the media that is hurting Democratic presidential candidates every four years. If I were Obama I would be setting up conditions that McCain cannot possibly accept.

5. The "pledge" was to sit down & discuss it.. he did not promise to DO it..
If rightwing radio is trashing him 24-7-365 and the swiftboaters are out in force, why SHOULD he agree to it?

4. There are tons of ways to get around that. Other parties will
donate the $$. The money will shift from the candidates to other organizations.

Obama wins either way.

6. I think that this is wise....what Obama is doing.
He is shutting down conversation on this for the time being. He expressively states that an agreement will be difficult to arrive at.

That's where this needs to stay for now.

He can make a determination later as to whether it would be to his advantage to do this. I'm sure that if he doesn't see it, there will be no deal.

Now, on with the Primaries!

9. His response is brilliant
It appears to reduce the role of 527s significantly, so it undermines the RW proclivity for swiftboating. That is not something McCain will agree to, because it is the lifeblood of republicon politics.
