I'm watching the repeat on CNN and they said generally the Clinton campaign |
|
is firing off emails with spin after the race ends. They said they had not received a single email from the Clinton campaign.

1. I'm confused. Do you mean they usually fire off emails but now they are silent |
|
or that Obama's campaign is not emailing anything.

7. Yes, both Howard Fineman and Andrea Mitchell |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 02:38 AM by lapfog_1
both said that there was a huge internal fight going on for the direction of the campaign... with Mark Penn on the side that wants to double down on the "go negative" tactics and (crap, I can't remember the other name... Wolfson?) wanting to back off of the negative and go back to the "touchy feely" campaign and win the debates.
Both said that it appears that Mark Penn was winning (from what their sources are telling them)... but that it might be a day or two before we know for sure.
I'm betting on the "double down go negative" myself.
Should know by tomorrow.
But given the general disarray that happens after a fight like that, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the campaign "go dark" for at least overnight.

22. The poster was talking about Andrea Mitchells report from the Clinton camp. |
|
She talked about the struggle between Penn, Wolfson, & staff ie: one wanting to go all out negative, the other softer. One thing that struck me, was that Andrea looked like she was walking on eggshells. It was strange, she looked afraid to me. Anyway, hope Senator Clinton fires both these clucks.

This is the part of the post I was answering: "(crap, I can't remember the other name... Wolfson?)" - it originally said "Halvorson"... Lagfog meant "Wolfson." Wolfson didn't speak, but Fineman said his name. :)

33. Sorry about the name mixups... |
|
The reporters were, I believe, Andrea Mitchell and Howard Fineman, both of MSNBC (NBC).
The two Clinton staffers apparently in a fight over the direction of the campaign were Mark Penn (go negative - harder!) and Howard Wolfson - the touchy feely camp.
And yes, Andrea seemed very reluctant to say that much... but then isn't she connected N ways till Sunday with capitol hill people? And she knows that even if Hillary drops out of the race, Hillary is still a very influential Senator from New York and former FLOTUS. I'm sure she wouldn't want to say anything that might get her off of the A-list for cocktail parties and so on. Fineman, OTOH, seemed very willing to dish the dirt, even coming up with the phrase "double down on negativity".
Anyway, with the hard loss tonight (I bet the campaign thought they would only lose by 5 to 8 percent) and the infighting, I'm not at all surprised that there isn't any spin coming out.
If, in the cold light of tomorrow, Hillary decides to carry on through TX, OH, and PA... expect to see a decision also on the direction... and my bet is still on Mark Penn and the even more negative on Obama.
I could be wrong, but it certainly seemed that way to Mr. Fineman as well.
And if that is the decision, then I have to believe that the rumored Gang of 5 (party bigwigs and elders) will step in to not let this further divide the party. I know we all think that DU is just a little corner of the internet reserved for us cranks and malcontents... but seriously, us, along with what... 12 to 20 other blogs... are their "windows to the world" of Democratic Thinking (to be taken with a grain of salt). And while they themselves don't spend time in here reading every hate filled rant, I feel certain that they have a staffer someplace that DOES. And reports back on the general feeling. So our little diatribes against each other here (and in 2 dozen other places) gets summarized and categorized... and I bet the party elders DON'T like what they have been seeing for the last few weeks... when it started getting really nasty.
I hope they put a stop to it soon.

34. What, you think *I'm* making up stuff about Hillary's campaign? |
|
I was relating a report I saw on the tube, attempting to give correct attribution (and failing the memory test). And then I added my .02 because I don't like Mark Penn and the "go negative" strategy. But only to the point where, in my opinion, I think it's the direction that they will go in.
But hey, if it makes to feel better to spew some stuff about Obama, go ahead.
I'm pretty used to it from the Hillary supporters.
And I apologize if some Obama supporters did the same to your candidate.
