Would anyone care to join me in a humble request? ... No Gloating Threads please...
I've tried to stay as far out of the Hillary/Obama fray as I could these last few months. I, and obviously many others have become... let's just say... "Disenchanted" with the overwhelming frenzy of vitriolic sniping that has become unavoidable by anyone who ventures to TGP, Latest, the Home Page, various states... geezzz, everywhere but the Science Group. I don't recall anywhere near as much hostility during the 2004 primaries when I began reading DU... and that all wound up very nicely when John Kerry invited Plaid Adder to The Ball.

Sure, there was hostility then, and maybe I'm lucky enough that it's all just fuzzy now, but I do recall some holders-on who were sore that Kerry won... but I'm really hoping that this time, when it ends, it ends.

So I'm just askin'... especially if you're a 'vibrant' Hillary or Obama supporter, can we have a nice transition to unity that doesn't involve any gloating, sniping, baiting, or otherwise dumping flaming turds on each-other's doorsteps once the Democratic nominee is picked?

It'd be nice to have a DU we can all enjoy back again.

I know it's a lot to ask, and I personally haven't invested myself so deeply in any candidate that I could understand the pain or elation anyone might feel, but I'm pretty sure this place is still comprised almost entirely of people with a great deal of character.

Is that fair enough?

1. I will fight tooth and nail if someone lies, but I can honestly say I don't
gloat, nor put another candidate down. I learned my lesson when I found out how ugly that looks. I will defend against a lie, but gloating is not allowed in my book. Good point, Dr.

4. I feel like I really must have forgotten how bad it was in '04...
Either that, or it really is worse now.

I think the devastation of losing the last four years to these treacherous criminals has really made folks pretty raw. At least in '04 it seemed like we were putting a four year mistake in the past... only to have the nightmare cling like a parasite to our every waking moment for another four years.

For many of us, our faith in America, and humanity itself has been deeply shaken.

I'd really like to see that humanity and faith in America sprout right here and right after the nomination. Then we can turn our focus on clean elections and the rule of law again.

Thanks babylonsister.

14. I think the difference this cycle is that the primary has gone on for so long
so people get more emotionally attached to their candidate's performance and therefore take the victory/defeat so much more personally.

2. Glad to join you in that.
I guess it's because I'm an Arizonan, thus well aware of the danger that John McCain poses.

Let's keep our eye on the ball. John McCain needs to go down. I don't care who does it but it needs to be done.

3. I'm happy and thrilled
that Obama is doing so well and I express iy. :-) Gloating is ugly though and I try hard to refrain from it even though I admit I have been guilty a few of times. :spank:

5. Thank you.
There are some very decent Obama supporters here...several have begged people not to gloat, and have called out others when they've gotten particularly nasty. That's not to say some of Hillary's supporters haven't been just as nasty, but it seems to me that kicking someone when they're down is...shall we say..."unseemly." My mama told me never to do that!

We all have to keep our eyes on the goal...to defeat John McCain. I have a LOT of reservations about Obama, frankly, but he'll be light years better than McCain. (And I intend to keep Obama's feet to the fire if he gets to the White House, as should we all.)

if Hillary wins.

10. I agree..
When our nominee is chosen, no matter which candidate wins, we must all join together to keep McCain out of the White House. I believe it will be a very hard fight. Not only will the pubs throw everything they can think of or make up at our nominee, we also have the voting machines & voter intimidation to watch for. We all need to fight as hard as we can.
I am hoping we can quit alienating each other & instead band together against the real enemy.

12. people try to be nice, but then one rude person can't resist
stirring stuff up, and then the other kids return in kind and it gets ugly again.

I can't wait for the primaries to be over.

13. #5 - to the front page with you
No matter how arrogant and vile the Hillbots have been, I don't think it serves Obama supporters well to gloat. Showing class will only further exemplfy the differences between the two camps, and send home the message that it's time for the smear politics of the Clinton era to end.

And that's only on the Greatest page. G*d knows what the General Discussion board is like.

Then again, the fact that there are many primaries and delegates to go doesn't seem to impact DU gloaters at all. These are the people who *failed* to bring Howard Dean into national office, and they don't seem to understand what "coalition" means. No matter who wins, what are they going to do when it's over? What are they going to do with the people who didn't vote their way?

We have lost much more than this board, of course. We've lost a general sense of working together in this country. There is no compromise at all; it's as if we're all a room full of babies all crying for what we want, and not willing to stop until we get it.

:dunce:

16. Although I agree with your thoughts it is not going to happen
The primaries bring out the nasty side of people. It turn rational people into mouth-foaming zombies with the one focus of destroying the "enemy" at all costs, even though actions prove this person to really be a friend.

DU has dissolved into a circular firing squad and I personally hope that after the primaries this crap fades away along with the people here only to stir the division.

I think much said in the last couple months will never be forgotten and that people's opinions of other DUers may have been permenantly changed.

Someone else said in another post "It's like watching a train wreck and not being able to do anything to stop it" That is how I feel about DU these days.

Fortunately the three post rule and the ouster of Primary posts from other forums have helped, at least a little bit.
