The republican primary is "over," in the sense that McCain is going to win. But Gov. Huckabee is on MSNBC now, and he is showing an angry and very bitter position on the call for him to quit the race. He is calling the McCain folks "smug" and "arrogant." He is hammering away on the ultra-right wing positions that he is demanding that McCain embrace.
This is a good thing.
I know the McCainsters are saying that Huckabee's staying in allows McCain to deliver more "victory" speeches after the primaries. But if you watch a McCain "victory" speech, that's hard to get excited about. More, it presents real problems for the republican party. If McCain moves to the right to satisfy the religious right, he loses the ability to attract the independent voters. If McCain doesn't meet their needs, they will be more likely to sit the election out. McCain's people had been hoping for a Clinton ticket, which would get the rabid right to the polls to support any republican; but with Obama as the democratic candidate, that dynamic is not in play.
Bad year to be a republican. Good year for democrats to focus on both the White House and on Congress.

1. During the Interview with Huckabee, he and the blonde woman said |
|
clearly that they support Huckabee. She said that she "was not throwing down her pom-poms" when Huckabee said he would keep going until his cheerleaders threw down their pom-poms. Then Scarborough echoed the same thing a minute or so later.

2. I'm almost sorry I missed that! I rarely watch Scarboro, but I'd have |
|
enjoyed seeing the huckster a bit angry! He always seems like such a likeable guy. His policies are NUTS!!! but if all you do is listen to him speak about general things, it's hard to dislike him.

time in this campaign that he has allowed this side of himself to be seen in public. And he has a very unpleasant side. It is about as different as Max Baer, Jr's transformation from Jethro Bodine to the insane chap on Macon County Line.

Here the race is "over" but this guy is on TV whining about McCain. I'm surprised nobody challenged him on it. He had a chance to get people to support his side, he failed, now he's just running for the sake of running. Seems like a sore loser to me. I'm quite happy to see him trying to generate arguments with McCain, but McCain isn't biting.

about McCain not biting. That, of course, makes the religious right unhappy. They view it as McCain ignoring them as an important group, rather than Hucklebee as an annoying individual.
