Obama picks up KEY Endorsement. |
|
Mine.
I have long prefered Hillary as I see the dire straits that our economy is facing and I have hoped to see the economic policies that Bill used to save the economy in the 1990's.
Now I see that Obama has stirred our party and enthused the sleeping Giant that is our progressivism and love of our country as we value each other.
I believe the momentumn that Sen Obama has inspired can help us move the progressive agenga and heal this nation. We can return to a country where neighbors are concerned for each other and our collective gifts are a treasure to us all. Given this rare combination of skills and the support he has gained from the nation, I believe that Obama should be our candidate and our president.
One word of warning to us, his supporters. President Obama will be resisted at every turn from the GOP and the old lions of the Democratic Party as well. We cannot elect Obama and expect him to carry on alone- he will need the support and enthusiasm from his constituence. And be ready for the many times that he does things that we do not agree with. it is going to happen. We will have to be heard and be ready to shape policies that are not carbon copies of our own because when he is sworn in, he will be the President of all of the nation, GOP, conservaitves, everyone.
I supported HIllary and thought she would do the best job. Now I see that our candidate will be a young and energetic man who will need our support more after the election then during, so today I begin the work necessary to elect Obama and more, begin the work to assure his success as our president.
Obama 2008.

I am a DK supporter (and will continue to be so). That said, Obama, has energized many people, particularly the younger voters. Doing so will be of benefit to us all. I found his statement at a speech that "We are The People, We Are Waiting For" to be not only inspiring, but fundamentally true. There is no one else coming to help us, we must pull together and take our country back from those who would take it away from us for their own greedy purposes.
I believe that HRC would do a good job for us, if the nominee as I believe that any of the Democrats in this race would. And I know that any would be better than any Republican (I will give even the Republicans, in the race credit for being able to construct complete sentences of more than three words, as we currently find ourselves living with in the White House).
So I join You....

7. It's the Old Farts, not the Old Lions, who resist him |
|
Cause don't forget, Old Lion Ted Kennedy is a great Obama supporter.
Here in Southwestern Pa, and particularly Allegheny County/Pittsburgh, we are cursed with a slew of ancient committeepeople. I'm talking senior citizens/Dem committee people who should have moved out of the way 2 or 3 generations ago. Unfortunately when the steel industry & local economy went down the toilet in the 70's, the district and ward chairmen and chairwomen found that these titles were the only things in their lives that they felt gave them some dignity and respect. So they never stepped aside after 10 or 20 years to let new people get actively involved in the Democratic party.
The last two elections I've worked on, I volunteered through Gore's and then Kerry's groups. I was supposed to liaise with the County Dems' Ward and District committeepeople. They regarded us "outsiders" (I've lived here for 38 years) as big threats- like once we'd actually gone door to door in their districts (which they stopped doing many years ago), that we would become known to the voters and might run for those precious committee posts.
I'm a senior citizen myself. After days, let alone weeks, of climbing up and down the hills and outdoor steps, I was pretty crippled up with arthritic knees. I'd canvass on the weekends - when people were home, and then ice my knees on the weekdays! I firmly believe that the future of community campaigning requires young, energetic, friendly, well-informed,and computer literate people to canvass and contact the voters. We do not need a bunch of geriatric, insecure old farts whose idea of campaigning is allowing a candidate to put a yard sign in their front yard. They refused to even make calls to their lifelong neighbors to get approval to place other yard signs.
