1. What the fuck do her supporters want?
If we criticize or, god forbid, gloat; then we're kicking her when she's down.

If we offer the olive branch and try to make up, they get mad because "She's still in the race"

Soon it's going to be over people, and she isn't going to be the one who comes out on top.

I think she's getting the thrashing she's earned; if she acted like a candidate instead of acting like she's out for blood and siccing her surrogates on her competition, it wouldn't be so contentious in here.
In other words, a fair fight is one thing. This isn't looking fair, and many of us rebel at that. Maybe you should write your gal a letter and ask her to tone it down.

48. ok
um, what do you figure Barack Obama intends to do with the hundred thousand new combat troops he wants to add? and how you figure he plans to pay for this while cutting the military budget further?

after all, he has a long record in the Congress of voting against supplemental authorizations for the war (he was against it when it was easy to be against it, once he was elected, all of a sudden, he keeps funding it) and voting against increasing defense spending.

oh wait, no, that was Dennis Kucinich. Obama has never voted differently than Hillary on a defense spending bill. you get that, right?

April 30, 2007: "I think that nobody wants to play chicken with our troops on the ground" concerning the Democratic plan to implement timelines for withdrawal being vetoed by Bush. Was that politically cowardly line said by A: Senator Clinton. B: Senator Obama. C: Vice President Cheney.

who do you think? that's some serious anti-war stuff going on right there.

Both in this post and #49 you defend your candidate by referring to the behavior of DU'ers.

Do you really hold your candidate to such a low standard that if it's OK for someone on the internet to do something then it is also OK for your candidate to do so?

There are a boat load of crazy B.O. and H.C. supporters on DU that are frothing and irrational. I certainly hope they don't constitute your lowest common denominator for all ethical behavior in politics.

Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 09:14 AM by scheming daemons
A) Connect with the voters in key states for November.... Ohio, Texas, and PA.

B) Set up world-class ground organizations that will get him over the top... in Ohio, Texas, and PA.

C) Continue to give live, prime-time victory speeches in front of millions of mesmerized viewers. You can't buy that kind of publicity.

D) Continue to suck all the media oxygen away from McCain. 80% of all stories will be about the Dem race and McCain will get 4 or 5 "oh by the way" minutes for each half hour of discussion Obama gets on the cable networks.

Let her stay in. It serves Obama.

She is Obama's sparring partner for the fall battle with McCain. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

giving him far more exposure. Imagine how 2004 would have looked had Kerry gotten more coverage in March and April from a longer campaign against a stronger opponent than he had. It would have introduced him to more people and there would have been more debates - which he excelled in.

hi karynjn, I agree with you that Hillary has helped Obama gain traction -- voters who wouldn't seriously consider him if they didn't have to are happy to have an alternative and he's a good one.

On the other hand, I don't trust that the Clintons won't try to poison the well and basically do McCain's dirty work so as to clear the field for another run in four years.

70. I think it's a trade off
After each of these wins, Obama has given a solid policy filled speech that has further defined him - before a mostly Democratic audience. I assume it may also include Independents and Republicans concerned about Iraq. He got about an hour on every cable news channel (I think) yesterday. In 2004, because there was less of a race - when did Kerry ever get that length of coverage before the convention? (He actually got LESS coverage on election night 2004 than Dean did.)

Obama is getting this because he is the charismatic person, who was far less well known, who is beating one of the best known people in the country. That is all for the good.

There is nothing the Clintons will find or put out that the Republicans wouldn't use. It is always better to have it earlier rather than later. (None of the Democrats would have used the SBVT, but consider had they hit very hard in say March 2004 - they would have been thoroughly debunked before the convention. They did hit twice in spring - but were so easily batted away that they were not seen as liars by everyone. As it was, they were shown to be liars before November, but they did harm his image from the convention.)

23. why even bother having them?
if they are real democrats, they will vote for Obama, if they aren't, then they are probably poor and uneducated, so they don't really belong in the party anyway.

22. wow,
you really, really hate her, dont you?

is it because you don't think women should be on the attack? is it really character 'assassination' to point out that someone said one thing then changed their minds? this must be your first campaign, right? I've seen significantly worse 'character assassination' by people running for 8th grade class president.

she can't talk about Obama's record, he doesn't have one. he's running as an agent of 'change politics' it's only fair to point out the places he is being hypocritical.

30. Remember a lot of us think she did this to Kerry in '04, too
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 09:37 AM by dmesg
And it's not as paranoid as it sounds; she was in the group that got him to back down over OH.

Now, it's entirely possible that she simply thought that another contested vote count would be bad for the party. OTOH, it's not beyond the scope of reason for many to think that she wanted a clear field to run in 2008.

And frankly, you're more honest than to post the "no record" BS; he's got a significantly longer elected record than she does. Both have made some significant legislative accomplishments; neither have had executive experience.

38. I'm an Obama supporter - and this is crazy
She is trying to win 2008. HRC will not be a strong candidate for 2012 if he gets the nomination and loses. She has not won 2008 in spite of having been the "inevitable" future President since about 2000. The idea that having to run against both Clintons is easier to envision now tha in 2007. Her only chance is that she could really become a power in the Senate and lead during the McCain years. She is not well positioned on that now - she doesn't have enough seniority to chair a committee, (I'm not sure what happens to the Clinton power if Obama gets the nomination and loses.)

I think that people like Warner and Bayh may look more attractive in 2012. Even Gore or Kerry, both of whom were better candidates than HRC has been seen to be could be long shots. (With McCain as President, their national security credentials are still significant) Or someone we don't even think of now could be a possibility.

37. How about letting the rest of the voters have their say.
Regardless of who wins or loses these people have just ass much right to vote for their choice as you do for yours.

Now if we could just change the funding to keep campaigns even........ then perhaps we would still have some real choices.

44. As an Obama supporter I take no pleasure in seeing Hillary "humiliate and discredit herself."
She has had a great career in the Senate and she can contribute much in the future. Plus we need to have her supporters get with the program so that Obama can win in November.

Now that the nomination race is over for all practical purposes it is time to work for unity within the party.

56. I just said that in another thread.
A good portion of Democrats are still Clinton supporters, and we're getting to be pretty pissed off Clinton supporters. Not a brilliant Obamian tactic, unless of course, they think that he can coast into office with the votes of Indy's and Republicans.

57. Let's make a distinction here...
Hillary Clinton, regardless of whether you plan to vote for her, is a good Democrat. She might not be your favorite Democrat, but she's no freaking Zell Miller. I'd vote for her if she gets the nominiation (and I voted for Obama yesterday).

Some of Hillary's supporters (here on DU) are obnoxious assholes. It's not fair to hold Hillary accountable for their actions, so we really should make that distinction.

Don't worry about it.

Hillary Clinton and her campaign will decide when it's time to drop out. Not you.

87. Do not all primaries count? Should Pennsylvania's Democrats just give it up to other states?
I think not.
