McCain's Media Mastermind Will Quit if Obama Is Nominated
An interesting take- particularly if you read between the lines. If the author is to be believed, McKinnon knows what's coming- and doesn't want to be part of it. Shades of Lee Atwater? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Atwater

"If you're a Democratic primary voter in Ohio, Texas or Pennsylvania, and you're still torn between Obama and the Clintons, here's the best reason I know to throw your support to Obama: Mark McKinnon.

Love him or hate him, there's general agreement that McKinnon -- the chief media adviser and strategist for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain -- is a genius at what he does. So it's no surprise that, even though it's relatively old 'news,' word that McKinnon will stop working for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee has been freshly burning up cyberspace of late.

Citing his admiration for the Illinois senator, McKinnon says he cannot face being part of a campaign that "would inevitably be attacking" Obama. "I have met Barack Obama. I have read his book. I like him a great deal, he told National Public Radio. "I disagree with him on very fundamental issues, but it would be uncomfortable for me, and it would be bad for the McCain campaign."

1. It reminds me of the '04 IL Senate race. The Republicans
can all see that it's going to be a massacre, and nobody wants to put their career on the line against Obama.

9. Somehow I don't buy the line
that this guy is too honorable to fight a negative campaign against Obama--but, say, wouldn't mind the campaign they'd wage against HRC.

12. Clinton hatred goes WAY back- the far right has literally spent billions
demonizing her.

And- lo and behold!

They got a return on their investment. Her negatives (fair or not) are so high that her chances of winning in November rest on either a McCain implosion- or an economic meltdown that leaves folks pining hard for the illusory "good old days" of the 90's.

they can't beat BHO, so why bother putting his reputation on the line?

Obama is vulnerable in ways that Hillary isn't. The mud they'll sling at her is old news- and what's stuck has already stuck.

What the Obama campaign is in for will be exponentially worse than anything we've seen in the past- and some of us have seen a LOT of outrages.

Not long back, DU'ers used to call what you're about to see "The Mighty Wulitzer."

Make no mistake- it's evil and diagusting- and in America- effective.

If you all aren't up for that- if you think high roads "lead to the Whitehouse," well, let's just say it's going to be a long 8 months....

18. And you're kidding yourself if you think that
McCain-Obama will be nastier than McCain-Clinton, and this guy just doesn't have the stomach for it. You aren't reading between the lines, you're reading it on its face.

It would stink up his resume.

6. McCain has a media mastermind?
Is he in any way involved in the decisions to hold his 100 people victory rallies on the same nights Democrats are holding 20,000 people rallies? Does he tell McCain to "go out there and bore them to tears" before every speech? The only and only media advantage that McCain has is that the press fell in love with him in 2000, and they have not figured out how deranged he's become.

10. True enough- yet the modus operandi is to repeat the easy narrative
After all, it's already been written and reinforced, and if my observations are ane any indication, otherwise reasonable people still believe it.

Finally, a Republican who has the decency to acknowledge his indecency and to set a limit on how he uses it.
