Does Obama have only ONE speech?
We were watching BHO's speech last night and my wife insisted it was a rerun of the Madison speech. I told her, no, I think he was in Texas last night.

Bottom line, if he's going to be on national TV every time, geez, doesn't he have more than one speech? This one's getting a little old, and his delivery is getting a little stale on it.

1. First campaign, eh?
It's called a "stump speech."

5. You know better than that, Pitt!
You use a stump speech ON THE STUMP. Not the same speech every time on national TV.

Duh.

Every stop he makes happens to be on national TV.

20. Then maybe his writers need to get busy.
Put down the lattes and write some new material for the national TV audience.

Maybe you need some new writers.

And go change your Birkenstocks.

22. I was teasing
Forgot the smilie. ---> :)

He's not in charge of which speeches wind up on TV, though. Crafting anew speech for every stop on a day-to-day campaign is a practical impossibility. It's gonna be the same spech for several days at a time.

16. Actually, the first large part of the speech was urging the folks to vote early.
I watched Obama for twice as long as Hillary was on, listing for his discussion of issues and hearing just more empty rehotoric, then I couldn't take anymore.

If he talked about issues, it was after that, not one second before.

....I've heard he also has something called a "Concession Speech".....

... but we haven't had much of an opportunity to hear that one.

Yes, it was cheap, and I'm not proud - but it was funny.

8. no, he doesn't. It's Deval Patricks' speech.
But he certainly does have a comfort zone with using Deval's words and phrases over and over and over and over again.

10. All the candidates have their main stump speech
They usually modify it a bit for the local audience, depending on where they are speaking. Hillary also has a standard speech. It's normal.

14. That's pretty standard stuff. Every candidate does that. The diff.
is THIS TIME lots of them get televised. I've heard LOTS of reporters talk about how dull and boring the job of covering a candidate is, because no matter where you go, or how many stops you make, you hear the SAME SPEECH!

18. you gotta think of all the folks who haven't heard it yet. It's smart.
maddening to the political junkies in the opposition, but effective in defining the candidate and making the definition stick.

Bill Clinton used to shift his speeches and carry over the important themes. I liked that a bit better -- kinda of like a Grateful Dead show.

The 'wheels coming off the straight talk express' was good, though. He needs more like that.

27. HORRIBLE RULE of modern campaigns: USE ONLY 1 "SCRUBBED" SPEACH or else

-- you make 1 mistake and your opponent calls you DUMB, OR UNPATRIOTIC FOR THE NEXT MONTH.

It is a ridiculous situation.

Hillary does the same.

Bill Clinton is the only national POL that I have heard who varies his message significantly to match the time and the audience.

35. He has a couple.. and he actually added about 15 minutes to last nights speach..
He talked about specifics, etc.

Most of the candidates have one big premise that they talk around.. the difference is Obama's "Stump" is viewed by 20,000 at a time now, and it's always on National TV. He tries to mix things up, but he's talking to groups that have never seen him speak before (not DU addicts that watch every snippet they can find).

He uses the same premises & lines each time, but changes up the speach layout, and adds or subtracts a few things to hit his audicance.

Sometimes you don't have time to drop it off at the cleaners to get it back in time for the important event, so you're stuck with the stains and BO, especially if it's your favorite one. ;)

38. Guess what? He answers questions too!
I witnessed it first-hand yesterday. He picked people out of the audience at random (nothing pre-selected) and spent 10-15 minutes answering each question in detail. No notes, no teleprompter!

Who'd a thunk he actually has a brain and can think on his feet! :wow:

42. It's his Joe DiMaggio speech
Look, most people are not political junkies like we are and many are paying attention to him now for the first time, so why not keep repeating it until he's sure that most people have heard it?

Way back when, Joe DiMaggio was asked by a writer why he busted his butt and was so hard on himself when he had a bad day even when the game meant nothing (the Yankees had clinched the pennant) and he said he did it because there might be someone in the stands who never saw him play and he was not going to permit anyone to remember him as someone who didn't give it his best every time out.

It's a great speech.
