1. The GOP primary is basically over. McCain is the nominee.
Republican participation has been dropping steadily for weeks.

All Rove is good at is smearing the shit out of anyone that gets in his greasy fucking way. He's not planning anything except his financing on the speaking and Faux news circuits.

16. Here, too.
Some of my most rabid republican neighbors crossed over to vote for Obama because they hate Hillary (read, fear Hillary) so much.

Not sure I understand the rationale, actually.

18. No, they have been crossing over because they should have been "D"s all along
These registered republicans are sick of what the partisan strategy has wrought in the world and in our country. They (Finally!) see that their vision was all a lie to enable a bunch of crony capitalists who don't give a shit about the little guy.

These voters are OURS, and should have been all along. It started with Reagan. It ended with Bush2.

So yeah, they arerepublicans, but that doesn't mean there's a nefarious plot to bring down Hillary.
If THAT were true, Romney would be the nominee.

Get it?

21. It's so sad that people don't see it, either.
They're gonna get their asses handed to them and they don't even realize it. All these "cakewalks" are going to be massive battles, and half of the Democratic team is very demoralized with all of the nose rubbing and shit flinging.

35. Listen to conservative talk radio - it's called the Stop Hillary Express
YES, there are Republicans crossing over out of the goodness of their heart because they want to but I am really nervous that there is way too much overconfidence over numbers that might not be accurate. AND, this is only February - we have to get to November. Momentum doesn't last forever.

10. You betcha...
In 2006, Gov. Doyle (D - If you're not from around these parts) got about 35% of the vote. Bryan Kennedy (running against Sensenbrenner) got about 31% of the vote, but the 5th CD doesn't encompass all of Waukesha County.

Of Note: Herb Kohl did actually WIN in Waukesha County in 2006. Now he's a moderate-conservative Democrat and he was running against a complete nut job, but Kohl STILL got 28,000 votes more than Doyle did, which means that given a moderate Democrat and a lousy Republican, people in Waukesha County will actually vote Democratic.

These primary results are wildly skewed, but the fact is that we don't know by how much.

But this is still an important development in a state that John Kerry won by only 11,000 votes.

33. If they finally vote him out, then I will be impressed
As it is, the Dem total is only somewhat higher than in 2004's primary, where about 50,000 Dem votes were cast (78% of the ballots).
http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/departments/clerk/Official%20Election%20Results/04febpri.Summary.LST

Granted, there was no contest on the Repug side then, but don't conclude from these results that this county will be competitive in Nov.

19. Parsed some numbers...
Based on what I know about the County (I live there).

It would appear that a big factor was Republican apathy. In my Ward, John Kerry got 242 votes in 2004, while Bush received 776 votes. In yesterday's primary, Hillary/Obama received 320 votes while McCain/Huckabee received only 205.

The same was true in a bellwether ward in the City of Waukesha where the Kerry/Bush split was 481/575 in 2004. The totals for Democrats/Republicans in the primary was 312/110.

It would appear that while some Republicans may have crossed over, most of them simply stayed home.

23. I seriously doubt it...
You're talking about two precincts where 1,000 Republican votes disappeared, and the total Democratic votes didn't go up by all that much.

17. That's 2:1 Dem to Rep
Which seems to be the trend throughout the country this primary season. And, given the fact that more Reps than Dems tend to vote in the primaries, that's a very good sign for November.

If not for the snowblower, we'd be buried in snow, though! It's 10 degrees today.

We live just west of Waukesha and go there all the time. Years ago we lived on College west of Grand.

it pretty much stays there, and WI probably has about the best fleet of plows and salt trucks in the nation.

Honestly, after having lived there 10 years, I don't have a bad thing to say about Wisconsin.

These are Rush Limbaugh style repubs and not one of them crossed over. They voted in the repub primary and they either voted for Romney or Huckabee as a protest against McCain. I suspect there were as many or more that did that as crossed party lines to vote "against" HRC.

28. I was afraid to post my story before the actual votes were in! (Just superstitious!)
I just didn't want to jinx anything! Anyway, I live in a very conservative county outside Madison. Our state reps are all Republican (yuck!) The only rep I'm proud of is Tammy Baldwin--but it takes Madison for a Democrat to win around these parts (and fortunately I'm in Tammy's congressional district). Anyway, my daughter was asked to participate in a straw poll by her HS Government Class. She spent 60 minutes outside the local grocery store last Saturday and surveyed 30 random people. Of these--18 were for Obama, 4 for Hilary, 1 for McCain, and 1 for Huckabee and 6 were undecided or refused to participate in the survey.

There's a movement going on here, guys! The huge Obama edge is noteworthy. He crosses lines and gathers in the most diverse group of people possible--liberals and conservatives! Go figure! I truly think he's a force to be reckoned with--people from all walks of life and all beliefs are supporting him.

These were honest answers and political party affiliation was never asked--but believe me, the vast majority of voters in my neck of the woods are Republican.

The voters are choosing Bareck because they want him to be our leader--not because he's a pawn in the grand scheme to thwart Democratic voter hopes and install McCain as an after thought!

Just my two cents!
