I really don't care if McCain's trophy wife is proud of her country. She is just another GOP Stepford Wife as vacant as the previous ones. Whoopie for anorexic-looking Cindy McCain in her red $5000 Yves St. Laurent power suit, with her triple string of cultured pearls, her bleached blond hair and her shiny new face-lift telling us she's proud of America. Prouder of America than--- hmmmm, let's say Michelle Obama.

* Mr Populist's diary :: ::
*

John McCain follows the usual "family values" profile of Republican social climbers. He divorced first wife Carol in April 1980 and married Cindy one month later. Infidelity? Hell no!... they were just "friends."

Cindy who is 18 years younger than Gramps McCain and she paid for McCain's first campaign for Congress in 1982 with loans from her well endowed trust fund. Her father's business and political contacts helped gain her husband a foothold into Arizona politics.

Cindy's biggest claim to fame is in 1989 she developed an addiction to perocet and vicodin, two powerful morphine based pain killers. In 1993 she was caught stealing percocet from supply of the American Voluntary Medical Team, a charity she founded to provide health care and medications to war victims in underdeveloped nations. The DEA was investigated her and with the intervention of her well connected parents and McCain himself, Cindy got off the hook with the usual 90 day trip to the posh rehab. The American Voluntary Medical Team folded shortly after it ceased to be a supply point for Cindy's opiate habit.

The DEA agreed to keep Cindy's little misadventure in Lala Land from the public, but then Cindy went and terminated the guy who reported her to the DEA and the details of Cindy's sordid past as a suburban trophy wife junkie all came out when the fired guy filed a wrongful termination suit against Cindy.

A few weeks after Cindy came clean about her addiction the Variety Club cancelled her Humanitarian of the Year Award. Boo hoo!... Another respectable Republican mother of the Harper Valley PTA goes down. This is just a little Peyton Place of Republican family values and Cindy's a Harper Valley hypocrite.

John McCain kept Cindy under wraps during his bid for the presidency but now that she's out there telling us she's way prouder of America than Michelle Obama, So I'm doing America a service by telling the truth, and nothing but the whole truth about Cindy.

Michelle Obama is proud of America too, but she's not Republican, garden club, percocet munching ex-cheerleader like Cindy. And she doesn't steal drugs from charitable organizations.

Michelle never had a trust fund like Cindy and she grew up under humble circumstancesw on Chicago's South Side. Her father was a pump operator and she managed to overcome her disadvantages as a working class black woman and attend Princeton then she graduated from Harvard Law School where she met Barack Obama. Michelle has paid enough dues to be far more credible than dozen stoned out Republican trophy wives when she tells you she is proud of America. America should be proud of Michelle Obama.

The whole thing is a bunch of nonsense. Most people have the common sense to understand what this political posturing and xenophobic flag waving from the McCain camp is all about. Call me harsh, but I'm tired of Republicans wrapping themselves in the flag and smearing perfectly decent Americans. It's time to take off the gloves.

7. Time to stock up on Ammo
The right wing attack machine is reving up their engines and has the Obama's in their site. This is a great bit of knowledge to come back on any attacks on Michelle.

10. Another Limbaugh like story...tough on crime, except when its one of your own!
So many of these pushers of the drug war are 2 faced as hell. I don't mean to diminish the horrible problem of addiction. But it bugs the shit out of me that people like Limbaugh want to lock people up for addiction and throw away the key WHILE they themselves look for their next fix!

11. More details in Salon article at link> the fired employee kept a diary.

In his journal-writing over the next few months, Gosinski would alternately complain about Cindy McCain and express concern for her well-being.

In January 1993, McCain fired Gosinski. She told him that AVMT was having financial problems and couldn't afford him.

Gosinski had already come to suspect that Cindy McCain had gotten volunteer doctors with AVMT to sign prescriptions for her, and had used employees' names to fill them. Worried his own name had been used (he would eventually learn that it had), Gosinski approached DEA agents in the spring of 1993 to report McCain's suspicious behavior. The DEA launched an investigation.

Almost a year later, with the statute of limitations about to run out, Gosinski hired a labor attorney and sued Cindy McCain for wrongful termination. He intended to claim that she fired him because she suspected he knew about her addiction, but the lawsuit never got that far. Instead, Gosinski's attorney wrote to the McCains, asking for a settlement of $250,000.

>>>

The entire story would likely have gone unreported if attorney John Dowd hadn't entered the picture. He wrote to Maricopa County attorney Richard Romley, a political ally of McCain, and asked him to investigate Gosinski for extortion.

"We believe that Mr. Gosinski is aware that in the past Cindy had an addiction to prescription painkillers ... Given Cindy's public position, exposure of this sensitive matter would harm her reputation, career, the operation of AVMT, and subject her to contempt and ridicule," Dowd wrote on April 28, 1994.

Thus began the inadvertent outing of Cindy McCain. Although the federal investigative materials were not public, the county investigative materials were. Romley launched an investigation, and one of the first things his people did, naturally, was ask the feds to turn over their investigative materials.

Among the questions asked: Did Cindy McCain get preferential treatment by the feds? True, Cindy was a first-time offender, which partially explains the fact that she did no prison time; instead, she entered a diversion program. But at the time, defense lawyers told New Times that if Cindy McCain had been a poor minority and not married to a U.S. senator, she likely would have been locked up.

Did Gosinski intend to blackmail Cindy McCain? He told New Times he didn't. Other AVMT employees told county investigators that he did. But the time line makes extortion hard to believe, since Gosinski had already gone to the DEA before he brought his lawsuit against the McCains.

In any case, Tom Gosinski didn't out Cindy McCain. John Dowd did, and then Jay Smith was called in for the clean-up.

16. Experts: "If Cindy McCain had been a poor minority, she would have been locked up."
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 04:04 PM by Leopolds Ghost
Best way to frame this is for Obama to find a poor WHITE person locked up for stealing prescription drugs from her employer.

That would neutralize the race issue.

That is easy to do in Phoenix, where there are tens of thousands of poor white drug addicts, because of the low-pay, no-hope service industry boom the Clintons are promoting.

14. Going after the family is for Republicans
And we should rise above their tactics and choose not to. Cindy McCain is not a public figure, and unless she plans to run for office and have some kind of real impact on our lives, or until she starts attacking someone else in an attempt to turn the public against them, then she should be off limits.

15. such maturity shown in this post. Go after the spouse...uh huh so
if you enjoy going after Cindy McCain then please do not write anything when the right goes after Michelle Obama and begins asking questions about how she got the position she holds now when just a year before she was basically earning less then 80,000 and now over 200,000?

The gop and especially the rnc will call out michelle obama when she tries to play the race card if obama gets the nomination and goes against McCain. When a group knows how to play the race game you better be ready to rock n roll with the best of em, cause the gop and the rnc will do it and the same whoremedia that has lowered the bar so low for obama to become the nominee are the same whoremedia that has given McCain praise for his service.....and actually reported in print and on tv McCain has nothing in his past that can come back to haunt him, and if you obama folks think this nywhore times article will make obama look better, noooooooooooo it will backfire and be a plus for mccain.....
