Some Obama supporters on DU's response to rw smear about Michelle Obama... |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 05:51 PM by rinsd
Claim there was nothing to be proud of coming from America during her adult lifetime.
Jesus Christ, its a right wing trap to portray Michelle Obama as some kind of wild eyed America hater.
And you guys are diving in headfirst.

7. What she actually said |
|
was that it was the first time in her adult life that she was REALLY proud to be an American.
Isn't it amazing how much difference ONE word makes?

9. Their response is to list all the reasons why we should NOT be proud of anything. |
|
I have never been proud of any of my kids because, to be brutally honest, they aren't perfect. Far from it. They've made as many mistakes in their lives as I have. Some real whoppers. If what we love isn't perfect, then there can be no reason whatsoever to be proud, right?

She said it, it's over, let it go. If we can't speak our minds for fear of political reprisal, this country is fucked and it doesn't matter who's president. Sorry, you're the one falling into the RW trap.
Edit: I wanted to add the title of your OP is misleading; it may have started as a republican smear, but you gleefully took the reins and have been trying to ride it all the way to the bank.

Not recognizing this as the huge gaffe it is is damning enough, but being unwavering in not admitting a mistake like this is just plain haughty.

Not if the right wing has anything to do with it. They don't care whether she was justified or not. They don't think in nuances. They don't care where you're coming from, or what you meant to say, or even if you're sorry you said it that way.

This is why Hillary and her supporters are being swept aside by the tsunami; your whole world revolves around winning no matter what. It's all about triangulation and "strategy". A whole lot of people are fed up with that shit and simply don't care what the RW, or you, want.

37. Her campaign is not the issue |
|
I'm not a Hillary Clinton supporter. I don't like her. I don't like her policies. I have never voiced support for her for the nomination, nor have I ever voted in any poll in any way that could be construed as being supportive.
The issue here is his campaign. It's looking increasingly like he may be the nominee. If that's the case, the starry-eyed nightmares of the "there's never been anything like this before" campaign owe it to the rest of us to not FUCK IT UP BY BEING RECKLESS AND SELFISH. Got it?
I have big problems with this guy, and much as I have many sizable ones with Senator Clinton, nothing she's ever done is as ugly as the McClurkin affair, and her sucking up to organized religion is far short of his full-body embrace of it. He's made reckless statements about Pakistan and other issues, and he and his supporters seem to have an increasing feeling of imperviousness.
Learn a little something about human nature: for all the positive energy one person engenders, that very energy will amplify resistance from others. Maybe it's all from a bunch of spoilsports, apostates, fools, reactionaries and racists, but it's powerful nonetheless. Whether his throng likes to hear it or not, if nominated, he'll have to stand for an ELECTION, and that means facing the music for past misdeeds.
The knee-jerk assumption that anyone who says anything detrimental or questioning about your champion is some functionary of the evil nemesis is tiresome and counter-productive. This was a huge blunder, and people who just bitch and bellyache that it's unfair or didn't really happen or is justifiable are messing up my future and the future of my children.
I'm glad so many people are having some great Obamagasm right now, but don't fuck up the world for your momentary gleeful frenzy, okay?
Annoying though my criticisms are, I'm TRYING TO HELP, since it's looking increasingly like the sweeping paniclove will put this guy into the driver's seat. Get it together; this is dangerous.

You challenge the rw for daring to question someone's patriotism.
The response to the RW calling you an America hater is not to list the things you find wrong with America.
" but you gleefully took the reins and have been trying to ride it all the way to the bank."
This is my 1st & only thread on this subject.

"And that is where I am right now, writing to you because you have been good to me and have a right to know what I think and feel. I am writing this too in the hope that my telling this one story will help you understand more clearly how so many fine people have come to find themselves still loving their country but loathing the military, to which you and other good men have devoted years, lifetimes, of the best service you could give..."

30. Again, I don't think a few posters on the wacky internets are going |
|
to do much to skew public perception. Skinner would love it if this site had that much power to influence the national dialogue. The RW is going to smear Democrats as unpatriotic no matter what--on Iraq, terra, FISA, troops, etc. That's a given. They did it to Kerry, they'll try to do it to Obama and Michelle. Paint them as spoiled young elitist liberal pampered brats who didn't "sacrifice" like McCain did--they tried that during Bill Clinton v. Bob Dole. Michelle said something that came back to bite her, but Americans for the most part know she's a wife, not the candidate, and if they hammer her enough they'll earn a backlash--Michelle is very charming, down-to-earth, accomplished, and a good mom, and has earned enough goodwill to make a gaffe every now and then. And the Obamas did some good damage control. There's only so far anyone can take this--it's just not a big deal.
