"crucify her." "crucify her." they gave socrates the cup of hemlock, they gave christ the nails and the cross. the gullible masses hillary, they buy the london bridge, they join the cart of any con artist. the gullible masses hillary want your political head. how does anyone stop the unstoppable marabunta before it eats at everything on its path? how does one stop the lies and the spin?

the gullible masses hillary, their megaphonous voices through joe scarboro, mika b., chris matthews, brian williams, and so many others, flamed away at you for almost two whole years. now that they have created a myth, now that they are about to sit another child president at the white house ... now they want to bury you saying you died a most natural death.

they created a myth. they created an idol. idols and myths fall by the wayside in time hillary.
i thank you for neither being a myth nor an idol. i thank you for being a human being who knows and has known the pulse of America for all of your life, and who have given so much to America for the last thirty-five years of your life.

thank you hillary. here is hoping that you will throw the marabunta off course and find your sure footing in to the white house.

4. No, "child president" is pretty spot on for both Obama and Dubya.
And keep in mind, child presidents, like child kings, lead to regencies, which never turn out too well. Cheney was Dubya's regent; who will be Obama's? Axelrod most likely, but you never know who'll end up with the power behind the throne.

I'm 39 and have been called a child. Does that mean the person who called me that is a racist, even though they were white like me? Or is it only racist when you call a black person a child? You're stretching very hard to make a point that just isn't there and it has no place here.

100. So, some people may take it as something racial, while others
don't. Lots of times, people who are older, will call whoever they are talking to, (who is younger) "child." It just means the person is younger. When I was younger, I had black people AND white people call me child, and I still can't see any racial connotation there. It's not meant as an insult and it doesn't have anything to do with race.

Then again I guess some people think it always has something to do with race when someone calls someone a "child." Then, it comes down to what the intentions were. Discerning someone's intentions is like herding cats. Not a very successful venture in most cases.

105. If you don't agree with jgraz you MUST be racist or stupid.
You see, when jgraz voices an opinion (or calls someone racist with absolutely no provocation) it automatically becomes fact, regardless of the lack of substance or even coherence. However, the moment one states a fact that counters jgraz, that fact automatically becomes uneducated opinion. It's one of the miracles of DU.

Either that or a glimpse into the inner workings of a sad little person who can only bully in a semi-anonymous forum. Take your pick.

If you'd bothered to develop a little knowledge about what goes on around here, you'd see that I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. What I do have a problem with is stupid people who wouldn't know a clue if it nested in their asshole adopting a ridiculous superior attitude while spewing complete nonsense.

I'll type this slowly so maybe you can get it: your experience as a WHITE PERSON does not translate into another person's experience as a member of an HISTORICALLY OPPRESSED MINORITY. I've played gigs where my black drummer was referred to as "boy" by the bar patrons. Like black men have been called for hundreds of years. And you don't even want to know what happened the nights he showed up with his Korean girlfriend.

So yeah, you're goddamn right it's racist when you call a black man a child. And no, it doesn't apply to your obviously sheltered white experience.

Also, you don't have the beginning of a clue as to what I've seen and where I've been. The idea that you played in a band with a black drummer (GASP!) doesn't exactly make you a leading expert on race relations. Its actually rather pathetic that you seem to think it does. although I appear white, and have played in bands with black drummers, white drummers, American Indian drummers, black bass guitarists, white bass guitarist, black singers, white singers, black guitarists, white guitarists, and a combination of black/white/mixed/AI and I never got on any high horse like jgraz has when it comes to race relations and what things mean.

I do happen to know better than he does in my own experiences though. When my black girlfriend called me "child," I KNOW for a fact that she was using it as a term of endearment and no in some racial connotation. If she meant it as some racial thing, she wouldn't have been so loving toward me moments later.

I just can't believe the nerve of some people to assume they know everything.

109. It's a rather fucked up way they look at things, isn't it?
Where I'm from, older people call younger people "child" regardless of race. It never means anything racial. It's actually a term of endearment in most cases. When I was younger and they called me "child" while they spent hours talking to me and getting me through some tough times, it was always something I looked at as a term of endearment. I don't honestly think it was racist. Why would those ladies have taken up that much time with me and helped me like that if there was some racist hatred going on there? It's wasn't about race. It was about simple friendship. Pfft, jgras is off his rocker on this one.

114. "Child" was meant to be insulting, there's no questioning that.
The problem I have is that jgraz maliciously took it out of context to score some imaginary point in the forum. My issue with that is calling everyone you don't like a racist cheapens the word and causes harm in the process. It looks like jgraz things he's an expert on race relations because he once knew a black person who had a Korean girlfriend, but this is jgraz, so I guess that's good enough for DU fact. :eyes:

Anyway, "Child" in this context was meant to connote immaturity, not racial inferiority, that's just obvious. I have no idea whether the O/P is a racist or not, but I'm getting a strong clue as to whether jgraz is.....

104. umm... I call BS on your post!
Example 1: "Child, I was laughing so hard when he said that!" - In this case, child was used as a figure of speech. I find it hard to believe that in the year 2008 people are still using "child" in this way, but I won't question your anecdotal account.

Example 2: "I don't want another child president (referring to Obama)." - In this case, "child" becomes very disrespectful as Obama is 47 years old. Furthermore, it has racist overtones as well because we all know that black men are regularly referred to as "boys" by racists / bigots in this country.

106. It's obvious that "child" was used because everyone talks about Obama's youth.
It was insulting and it was meant to be so, but not as a racist comment. The O/P is a moron, obviously, but there's no indication they are racist. Its just plain wrong to call people racist without good reason. It not only hurts people unnecessarily, it cheapens the meaning of racism.

124. Do I really have to explain this to the DU fact-maker?
*sigh*

"Child" in the context of the O/P's post was meant to convey an impression of immaturity, not racial inferiority. In fact, I've never in my entire life heard the word "child" used as a racist term. Having come from a very racist family and having lived and worked in racially diverse settings for the last 20 years, I think there's a good chance I would have heard SOMEONE use it that way if it was in any way usable.

As for "shrill fishwife" that is obviously sexist. But you knew that, you just wanted to make sure you got an insult out against Clinton in this discussion, didn't you?

Pathetic.

Hey, all my female friends call me shrill and I've never felt they were being sexist to me. :eyes:

Can't you see the difference between pointing out a racially insensitive comment and calling the poster a racist? The comment is racially insensitive, and it plays into the rest of the subtle racial comments that surround Obama -- like comparing him to black athletes or implying that he's a lazy huckster. They touch on deep racial stereotypes and help the true villians who are trying to use Obama's race against him for political gain.

147. So a term that's been used for years is just insulting but "child" is racist?
I know what you're trying to say, but you're off base with this one - way off base. We don't know if the O/P is racist or not and the post doesn't give a clue. By the logic you're using, any term, whatsoever, used against any black person at any time can be considered "racially insensitive". That just doesn't fly. I'm not willing to agree that black people can't be insulted as that's far more racist than insulting them to begin with. I really don't think Obama is so fragile that he can't take an insult from some moron in a forum and if you do, then you have a pretty low opinion of your own candidate.

There's a difference between pointing out a racially insensitive comment and calling someone a racist. Are you capable of making that distinction?

I didn't say you called anyone a racist. If you actually stopped to think before you posted, maybe you woulda realized that.

But you were running around screaming about the racist tones blah blah blah, and it was beyond ridiculous.

The only racist tones or racially insensitive comments are the ones you've manufactured within your own mind. There was no tone of that sort whatsoever in the OP and it makes you look really really silly by running around claiming otherwise.

I don't want to think that the OP did it intentionally, but the pattern is well-established at this point. Why do the Hillaroids get to run around yelling "MISOGYNY" at every opportunity and yet expect a pass when it comes to racial sensitivity?

BTW, why the hell aren't you laughing at an OP who compares Hillary to Jeezus and Socrates? I thought you were an equal-opportunity annoyer. :P

32. We call spider wasps marabundas.
They're a wasp that lays their eggs on a captured spider so the young hatchings can live off the body parasitically. Which made nooo sense at all in this context.

So, I looked it up thinking it must have another meaning and I found killer flesh eating ants. Is that the correct definition for your intentions?

If so, I'm not sure which is worse, killer flesh eating ants or parasitic spider wasps?

i think hillary stands up there with them ... she has been doing the right thing for many years.

truth and the right thing are of course considered revolutionary in the midst of a world so filled with lies, manipulations, obscurantism and propaganda ... both back then, and now.

truth and the right thing are the "uninvited heroes" to juse a phrase i heard cynthia mckinney say recently.

three of the world's "uninvited heroes"= Socrates, JC, and ... yes, hillary.

Sittin' on the dashboard of my car.

Comes in colors pink and pleasant,
Glows in the dark cause he's iridescent
Take him with you when you travel far.

Get yourself a sweet Madonna
Dressed in rhinestones sittin' on a
Pedestal of abalone shell.

Going ninety I ain't scary
Cause I got the Virgin Mary
Assurin' me that I won't go to Hell.

66. DU- a bastion of political hyperbole
this has really reached a bizarre fever pitch- and that includes pieces like this and much of the railing about Hillary Clinton. It's pointless, of course, to suggest that people ratchet it down a tad. All one can do is note it and move on. The funny thing is that at the same time that you're excoriating others for creating false idols, you're doing the same thing with extravagant language about Hillary: "i thank you for being a human being who knows and has known the pulse of America for all of your life, and who have given so much to America for the last thirty-five years of your life." Really? Hillary has known the pulse of America for all her life? What does that even mean? And does that mean the infant Hillary was bestowed of such supernatural gifts that even as a babe in arms she *knew* America? And then you continue with the 35 year myth which has been deconstructed repeatedly. In any case, Hillary Clinton has run a poor campaign. Here's hoping she only sets foot in the White House as a guest.

77. It is utterly amazing how some Hillary supporters twist words and concepts
Those who are justifiably critical of Hillary, her positions and her record now are the "gullible". Those who speak critically of her record and her positions are now calling for the public to "crucify her". Those who are in favor of holding Hillary accountable for her enabling Buschco's war are now joining a "con artist". Those who point out the huge holes in her record are now creating a "myth" And somehow Obama, who will be older than Clinton, JFK and Teddy Roosevelt when/if he takes office, who has more national experience than Clinton and Roosevelt, is now, somehow a "child president". Wow, talk about spin.:wow:

And for a woman who supposedly knows the pulse of America, she's been remarkably reluctant to follow the will of people on critical issues ranging from the IWR to the Patriot Act to NCLB. Hmmmm, what does that say about Hillary:think:

Look, I'm sympathetic, to a point, with you. Your candidate is in a death spiral and there is very little can be done to pull her out. However that isn't the fault of the MSM, the party or the people. The blame for that lies at Hillary's very own doorstep. She ran a piss poor campaign, counting on her "inevitability" and cash loaded frontal assault to knock everybody out of the race by Super Tuesday. Yet she failed to count on anybody being able to stand up against her, and when somebody did, she was caught short, without a plan B and running low on cash.

I really suggest that you take a step back and look at this objectively, if you can. Blinding yourself and others is doing yourself and others a huge disservice. It is always best to deal with reality as it is, not how it appears through partisan colored glasses.

84. Best. Most Articulate. Most Succint Post. Ever....
and not surprisingly there's good advice there no matter who you support. I admit sometimes it gets to me, and I'll take a cheap shot every now and again. Hopefully, at the end of this process, I can get behind whomever wins the nomination. But the Clinton supporters here have been brutal with name calling, labeling, etc.

I'm not a cultist, I don't follow the latest fads...never have. I don't think Obama can be blamed for being charismatic. When Bill Clinton came onto the national scene, I fell in love instantly, because he was saying things that moved me on an emotional, yet practical level. I don't feel that connection with Hillary, and that's not my fault. I felt that connection with John & Elizabeth Edwards, and once they withdrew, I was drawn to Obama and I trust my instincts on this one.

Again, thanks for your insightful post. I find it difficult to take the i.p. seriously, considering all the jokes with religious overtones directed at Obama supporters.

86. Thank you for your kind words
Perhaps I'm a bit more objective about this than others who've been behind Hillary or Obama from the beginning. I got behind Kucinich, and when dropped out I was forced to choose from two candidates who are both flawed. I think that by not originally getting swept up in the passion and rhetoric, I'm able to approach this from a bit more objective point of view. The one issue that drove me towards Obama was Hillary's war record. I believe in holding our leaders responsible for their actions, and with over a million innocents dead and our resources spent in an illegal, immoral war that she enabled, I think that she needs to be held accountable. Yes, Obama is more charismatic, but on most other issues, he and Hillary have little seperating them.

I'm with you, this is a very divisive primary campaign, and I fear that once we have a nominee, a significant number of people will just stay home. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I fear it might. Rants like the OP do nothing to help the matter either, thus I point out the BS when I see it.

Again, thanks for the kind words, talk with you later.:hi:

103. I find the language and imagry of this post disturbing..
"crucify her." "crucify her."

Hillary is not Christ even if one does not subscribe to his being part of the triune god Hillary is *far* from being Christ...

"socrates the cup of hemlock"

Socrates was given the death sentence for speaking against the system saying it needed to be changed not that 'he can hit the ground running and work within the system'

"the gullible masses hillary"

This aspect of your tone is, perhaps, the most disturbing and the main reason why Hillary would be a disaster as the democratic nominee! Aparently if you dont support Hillary youre some stupid rube who needs Hillary and her, albeit small, mass of supporters to come along and save you from your own ignorance.
