DNC Should Dump Super Delegates After 2008 |
|
The achievements and status that have gained them a Super D vote, either from elected office or as grassroot activist, is duly noted.
But super delegates ultimately represent the ethical and moral equivalent of vote tampering. That they were implemented by the Democratic Party itself does nothing to change the simple fact that the ability of party "luminaries" to deny the will of voters in primary elections is a slap in the face to the very concept of democracy. The idea that party elders will step in to correct the uninformed or misdirected votes of the rabble reeks of the Central Committees of the Communist Party of the former Soviet Union.
I would feel this way regardless of which candidate I supported this year, to answer the first expected reply.

It appears, short of an unlikely exit, that they are part of the equation for this season, and I'm sure they will not be surrendered lightly.

4. Yes, because changing the rules mid-stream is the epitome of fairness |
|
:eyes:
The whining about superdelegates is getting to be pretty vomit-inducing.

6. Whining, to point out a glaringly un-democratic aspect of the Democratic party? |
|
I am not suggesting changing the rules this time around, but super delegates are a relic of smoke-filled room days and need to be done away with. This should be about honoring the wishes of the voter, not returning or expecting favors.

8. If you didn't like the rules of the game then you should have declined to play |
|
Also, I was responding to the other user's specific "I say they should dump them NOW!!!" comment.

I do believe. As well he should if they get rid of superdelegates.

7. Sorry, but until caucuses are done away with, Super Delegates will be needed..... |
|
Standardize federal elections with an elimination (primary) round during a weekend election, on paper ballots, around 90 days before the general election.
I don't want to hear that unknowns will not have a chance. Anyone seriously running for president with some degree of public awareness becomes highly visible within milliseconds of announcing. Serious candidates receive press coverage according to their histories of participation in the political process.
When I voted in Arizona Feb 5, there were 26 names on the ballot for president. Most of them were "unknown" and are no longer running.

9. They should dump a lot of things after 2008...arggghhhh |
|
Even a political junkie like me can't understand the primary system :silly:
I'm not sure of the number, but I think 18 primary states don't let crossover votes and deny independent/non-committeds to vote at all for President? GOP and Dems are stuck with the candidates of the party they're "registered" with.
I'm in an Open Primary state, I was asked if I wanted the Dem or GOP card. As it should be in every state.
Even the caucus states are confusing....you can register that day!?
Who knows, if we had a standard national primary system, Edwards and Biden may be battling it out right now :D (God, I miss them)
