The People’s Questions (for tonight's debate)
Tonight, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will debate in Texas. What should the professional questioners ask the Democratic candidates? Well, here are a few suggestions, culled from the hundreds sent in by readers of Campaign Stops, the editorial department’s election blog. Many, many more terrific (and funny and pointed) suggestions...

Global warming is largely caused by carbon dioxide emissions. How serious are you about a carbon tax? Whom and what would be taxed? And what would you finance with the revenue?

Politics is about governing people. A single decision can change millions of people’s lives, for better or worse. What mistake in your political career do you most regret, and what did you learn from it?

Senator Obama, in a speech in Chicago you joined the call for negotiations toward the global abolition of nuclear weapons. Senator Clinton, you have called for maintaining United States nuclear forces in “enough strength to deter others from trying to match our arsenal,” which would seem to mean nuclear superiority. Senator Obama, why do you favor changing our nuclear policy? Senator Clinton, why do you believe nuclear superiority will keep others from building up their arsenals?

1. My questions would be about healthcare, social security, home foreclosures
But those have been asked before. I think I would probably want to ask Obama about his stand on Al Qaeda and Pakistan. I think I would ask, "Senator Obama, you have made statements of using force in NW Pakistan to find Osama Ben Lauden. Knowing Americans are ready for our troops to come home, and to end this war, what would you say to the people about your stand and how can you reassure them the war will be over with timetables"?
