I expect that there will be a question regarding Kosovo in tonight's Dem debate |

2. It reminds me of statements made by our candidates about Iraq |
|
Not that they should respond thereby meddling in policy today. Given that we have staff in Kosovo. Not in the embassy today (they were sent home yesterday) but in the city.
About Iraq - Didn't our candidates all make statements about keeping some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy? I'm trying to think of what sort of questions could be asked this evening. The questioners certainly know that it's imprudent for our candidates to be saying what our administration should do about Kosovo today. But they could revisit the issue of keeping troops in Iraq to protect our embassy given how our embassy in Belgrade is in today's news.
A jumble of thoughts on all this as it relates to Muslim vs Christian, embassy issues, our ongoing policies towards Kosovo, the Clinton administration's policies in Central Europe and Hillary's candidacy. My head is spinning at how all this could affect our primary.

4. I haven't heard any of those dumb "gotcha" questions this season. |
|
Things like "can you identify Kosovo on this unmarked map?" And "who's the president of Pakistan?" And "how much would you pay for a gallon of milk?"

5. I was thinking that there might be questions regarding policy |

But you brought to mind that tv ad where the guy is asked to put a push pin on China on a world map. Failing, he falls onto the map, tearing it as he lands on the floor. From now on I'm going to imagine that the guy is W!

Ron Wyden (D-Or) and Gordon Smith (R-Or) were once in a whole debate like that and it was ugly. Both were embarassing but Smith looked like that guy from your commercial. He was asked to find Serbia, and he ended up somewhere in Scandinavia.

8. I'll see your "expect" and raise you a "no way." |

It's just my judgment, but hell, this is the Bush-bots.
If I were "the civilian leaders" it wouldn't be WISE to talk openly about this *crisis* during the Debate within a National TV forum.
Perhaps a fuzzy amorphous geopolitical question, but I'd be surprised if they would think it good OPSEC (Operations Security - wise) to talk specifics tonight.
Perhaps Chimpy will go on and pre-empt the debate? :P
