HRC: Pull that "Night-shift" commercial where you're wearing an $800 tailored suit
and a necklace, your hair perfectly coiffed, not a hair out of place or a wrinkle anywhere...
That's not how real people look.

You wanna be believable?
Go buy a pair of pull-on knit pants and a cotton blouse at Sears.
Drop twenty dollars on a pair of sensible shoes at PayLess, 'cause your feet hurt from standing all day.
Run your fingers through your hair a couple dozen times, like you're trying to figure out how to pay three different bills
with the same hundred dollars.
Rub your sockets five, six times, so your perfectly applied eyeliner smudges into dark circles beneath your tired eyes.
Take your glasses off and pinch the bridge of your nose -
and then let the camera lens click.

Nigh-shift? Yeah. She knows what she's talking about...

15. That's exactly it.
Nothing wrong with being who she is, dressing as she dresses, etc.
But please don't show that after showing a nurse or nurse's aid and a waitress pouring coffee in an all-night diner
unless you want me to believe that you're presenting a series of images that have something in common.

6. That's not the criticism.
It's that she's trying to compare her "night shift" work to those of real blue-collar night shift workers while in an obviously luxurious office with fancy clothes. My god if you can't see the irony there then you need to step back from the HRC kool-aid pitcher.

worked 12 hour night shifts

16. You seem to be mising the point of these rebuttals though
There isn't "real work" and "office work". Both are work. Both take time, and effort. The work she is campaigning for is not lifting forgings all day but work nonetheless, and it takes any candidate lots of work to get there. This silly distinction between "real work" and white collar work is massively outdated and was always wrong even when it was in vogue.

her choice of decor. I simply said that it looks a bit out of place to see that picture of her
after the ones that preceded it.

The Kennedys have devoted their lives to working for people who are less fortunate, financially -
but they don't try to present themselves as anything other than what and who they are. That's
why I said, upthread, that the commercial would be fine as is, if she just removed the picture
of herself.

Is this so hard to understand?

I have tremendous admiration for her intelligence and diligence.

Why everyone has jumped on this like it was a thing of monstrous ill-will

I was critiquing an ad that I saw, which I thought would be better without the picture of her in it.

42. Why does everybody buy into the story that the Clintons were
ALWAYS well off? They did not even have a home when they moved into the White House. They spent vacations at other people's homes, such as Martha's Vineyard and their good friends from California (their names evade me at the moment). They also spent a lot of time at Camp David.

They had a rental home in Arkansas before he became Governor. They actually left the Governor's mansion for the White House, IIRC.

They have a lot of money now, from best selling books, speaking engagements and investments from same. All Presidents make money when they leave the White House, especially if they were notable Presidents. Also, remember that when he was President, the salary was half what it is today, I believe it was $200,000. That seems paltry, doesn't it, for the most powerful man in the world.

In her youth, Hillary received scholarships to Wellesley and Yale, and had to supplement them with work during the summer. One time she even worked in a fish cannery in Alaska. Her parents were not well off, though you certainly wouldn't say she was raised in poverty. She knows how to work and has done extensive amounts of it. Also, in case you have never worked at a law firm, female lawyers work twice as hard as male, are usually paid less, and have a hell of a time making partner.

I reiterate, if you have not read her autobiography, now might be a good time. It was a best selling book all over the world, where the Clintons are still held in the highest esteem. Not that you'd know it by the way they are being treated on DU and other liberal blogs this election season. Shameful!

43. I don't recall FDR, JFK, Gore, Kerry, Edwards
and countless other wealthy people who empathized with the working class as having to dress at Walmart and Payless to have their point come across.

Why this incessant virulence against Hillary???? She does not need to prove to ANYONE that she cares about working people. Her very long record of support for women, children and minorities are proof enough for me.

This board is becoming more depressing by the day.........

Rolled-up sleeves, no coat, no tie, etc.

44. You mean she needs to KEEP IT REAL?
Like this woman?

Why is it Oprah only looks thin(ner) and young(ish) on the cover of her magazine? Please don't tell me they airbrush the thing...not the woman who tells the world that people should "age gracefully" and who tells women not to lie about their age...NO, Oprah could never be a HYPOCRITE!

61. I like that picture of Hillary you have.
Do you know when that was taken? I have always thought she was a very pleasant looking lady, and never could understand the stupid right wing smears that she was "ugly."

Where do they get that crap from?

I've seen her in person as well, and she has a warm, friendly face.

67. Thanks, I like that photo of Senator Clinton too...
I don't know when it was taken, but I assume it must have been during the White House years. She is an attractive woman and I guess they have to pick on something and when it's a woman you want to pick on you always go for the looks...she's obviously too bright to be called stupid even by freepers or even some of the anti~Hillary camp here on DU. I saw her in person in New York a few years ago at a fund~raiser...she looked great.

73. Thanks.
I've never seen that photo before, but it's a pretty one.

And yes, it is petty and rude to spend so much time trying to find fault with her appearance when she actually looks nice, and that's really not the issue.

Small minds, I guess.

I was at her Hallmark town hall meeting. I took a picture with her and she put her arm over my shoulder, even at that close range she looked terrific.

The few times that I have seen her in person she has always been charming, funny and engaging. In other words, a very classy lady.

More's the pity that so many are gleefully throwing her under the bus and even backing up the bus to go over her one more time........

68. Et tu, Brute?
I didn't SAY she can't dress nicely.
I didn't say she hasn't earned her money the hard way.
I didn;t say any of the things implied in half of the off-the-chart responses here.

When you put things in a series, whether it's verbally or visually, they usually have a common thread.
I think that showing a waitress in a diner pouring coffee and a night-shift nurse, and then showing Hillary in a suit jacket without
a crease, didn't smack of realism. Therefore, I thought the add would be better if they left everything as is but took her picture
out of it.

Pretty simple, and definitely not worth the energy expended to defend it here.

83. Well, she could've dressed up like Eliza Doolittle & said "Oi'm for bleedin' 'elfcare, guvnah!"
She sure wouldn't have appeared snobbish then. Anyway, to be fair, Edwards had the temerity to talk about the "two Americas" while wearing a crisp business suit! Talk about your limosine liberal! Then Obama rode in a friggin' sedan to accept the Teamsters' endorsement! If he had an ounce of integrity, he would've dressed up like a drover and whipped a team of Clydesdales to the event. Oh, this upper class hypocrites!

because heating oil is too expensive to buy? Mine has been all winter. Do you have collection agencies calling for medical bills and you *have* insurance and pay your bills? But everyone wants all their bill paid now. $4,000 maximum per year per person out of pocket. Has the tuition at the university your child attends doubled in 10 years? Have you worked 10 hours at your day job and cashiered at Kroger until 1am to have enough money to keep a roof over your head.

Don't you dare call me a dunce because I don't believe that Hillary Clinton could possibly understand what life is like for many of us.

Back off. It's not a crock of shit.

96. I have a master's degree and am making close to
100 K/year. Well, not that close, but close enough. I still remember exactly how it felt to stand on my feet for 8 hours a day and cashier at Walgreens for 3.25/hour and to stand in heels (Payless) as a bank teller making 4.50/hour. I also remember what it felt like to work all day and then go sit in a class room at night and write papers on the weekends.

I don't forget where I came from - it just makes me appreciate it even more.
