Honestly... please, Obama supporters please be gracious |
|
I'm a Hillay supporter who no longer thinks she can win Texas and Ohio.
Quit being so mean. 50% of you seem like Karl Rove. I will not accept your fake pandering once Obama has the nom.
It's unbelievable how mean some of you are.
By the way, other non-political websites I visit have very gracious Obama fans.
I would say that those who are so nasty to Hillary are Freepers, but many of them are respected members.
Are you gonna be the devil until your chosen one wins, and then expect us to forget all the s*it you flung at us?
Get real. It is VERY offensive the way some of you have been behaving.
And I know that a few are trolls/// but not MOST.

In the meantime, I'd also appreciate if you would discourage a few hyper-partisan Clinton supporters from themselves quoting Karl Rove and suchlike. Extremism of any kind is a bad thing.

To the OP:
I think I have been nice to Hillary supporters who have been nice to me. I have at times gone off on some of the worst until I put them on ignore.
The antics go both ways, and I am really tired of people acting like it is all us, because it is NOT.
If you can plead with those in your camp who delight in posting right wing trash and other intentionally inflammatory things, then fewer of us will take the bait. FWIW, I have alerted on at least 5 threads AGAINST Hillary in the past 24 hours. I don't like to see that stuff coming from people claiming to be Obama supporters either.
I actually think things have gotten a bit better lately. I hope that is a trend that will continue.

because it was the reason I left DU for so long. I was a "Deanie" and boy did it get vicious in here, especially with Kerry supporters. Still, after Kerry got the nomination, I and of course most others, fell in line behind our candidate. But there were a handful that just couldn't let it go. What did it for me was Kerry's loss. I was devastated. And instead of coming here to have a shoulder to cry on with my fellow dems, we had to put up with some people saying, "I told you so!" or "If only my candidate was elected we would have won!" Blah.
So, yeah, I guess the nastiness is "par for the course", but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.

And furthermore, I will be SO HAPPY if Barack Obama wins the Presidency!

I've been on the losing side in too many campaigns to mention.
That said, this contest went out far longer than anyone ever imagined.
And it has been very close.
As an Obama supporter, I don't see a lot to gloat about. It has been a very close race.
And Hillary has shown she can go the distance. I admire that.

23. Odd. When I read these boards, I find Hillary's supporters to be |
|
much more personal in their attacks, for the most part.
In fact, I find the incessant pushing of the snub, the cult, the plagiarism, the McCulkin issue, M.O. pride, alleging empty suit rethorics and non stop dogging on Rekzo to have shown me exactly who's who here.
It appears that the topics above are much more important to most Hillary supporters than are Why we went to war, the use of Cluster bombs, and why the 1990s Clinton administration (NAFTA, DOMA, Telecom Act, Welfare Reform, losing congress till 2006, scandals galore and impeachment, etc...) wasn't really all that.
I am fascinated but not amused.

I'd say each side sees what they want to see. It might be weighted on one side or the other for all I know. Don't think it's really worth worrying about.
Fact is, the "North" and the "South" are going to have to call off the Civil War and make peace soon, and all work hard for November. I think we all need to watch the rhetoric.
It hurts when people name-call and when they gloat. When people say nasty things, I put them on Ignore. I don't really like doing it and don't usually have an Ignore list, but it's a necessary part of getting through the primaries. I've got about 30 people on Ignore right now.

I just found the tone of your post a bit off putting. You start by asking Obama supporters to be "gracious", and then proceed to a laundry list of things about them that you think stinks. That's all I was pointing out.
For instance:
"Quit being so mean. 50% of you seem like Karl Rove. I will not accept your fake pandering once Obama has the nom. It's unbelievable how mean some of you are."
You're asking them to quit being mean, while at the same time accusing half of them of being like Karl Rove and then stating you won't be accepting their "fake pandering".
You're not leaving people a lot of wiggle room for being gracious here.

Great Japanese film where a story is re-told from each participants perspective. And what you get is a wholly different story.
If you are the one being attacked, that is all you will see. You will most likely see the attackers from your side as merely defending you.
As a relatively neutral observer, I would say that some people from both camps have been unnecessarily aggressive and personal in some of their attacks. And this goes on even today.
And I don't think it's all just good fun, as a previous poster states. But he is one who is really quite a participant in these things. So that's his perspective, isn't it?

If I wouldn't say it to a person's face, I'm not comfortable saying it behind their back, or on a message board.
Another thing: would the candidate I support want to have me quoted in support of them? If not, is it really support?
I think if I'm truly supporting a candidate, I ought to respect their cause enough to communicate with dignity.
It's not only about making an effort to respect their opponent. Have some real respect for the person I'm defending.

for yourself, your party and your country. I don't understand why anyone would vote against their own best interest just because a candidate's supporters were rude to them. Hillary's supporters treatment of me is the least of my concerns about her. If I want to give her my vote in the GE I will and NOTHING her supporters have posted will make me not vote for what I think is best.

You call us Karl Rove and expect us to be gracious?
Fuck that.
I haven't got time to be gracious, as soon as Obama's the official nominee, I'm digging into McCain and the former Clinton supporters can either join or get out of the way.

...we are all on the same team here ultimately and once this primary season is over we are all going to need to work together to make sure we win in November and bring as many down ticket races with us. Whoever the nominee is.

63. How 'bout we BOTH start being more gracious? |
|
Absolutely agree that there's NO reason for Obama supporters to be mean, nasty, etc. Our candidates have pretty much sewn this up. In that I feel thrilled that my candidate - the one who I truly believe is by far the best one on either side to sit in the Oval Office at this moment in time - has almost wrapped this up, I also feel real sympathy for those who were just as fervently behind Hillary.
I totally get that some Hillary supporters may be despondent, angry, mad and otherwise filled with sour grapes right now, and for that reason, will definitely give them some slack. That said, there comes a time when both groups should stop the insanely nasty sniping.
My guess is that time past about 3 months ago. Better late than never though, ey?

they don't need people like us old Clinton backers to support their candidate. He can't possibly lose so why would he need us?

1. Been deliberately lied about, the claim being I was "ridiculing" domestic abuse survivors. When definitive proof was offered that this was FALSE, there was a pallid "well, it wasn't him, BUT-" type "retraction."
2. Had a second whopping falsehood told about me, a falsehood that was demonstrably proven to have been on the part of a poster supporting the attacker. The proof was unequivocal: a retraction was asked for FIVE times. That retraction was not forthcoming, but ongoing smears were.
3. Been told my opinion was not important because I hadn't been here that long.
4. Offered an olive branch to those attacking me at the behest of a decent poster, only to have the olive branch spurned and ignored by the attackers, and the smears to continue.
So, you know what? No thanks. I still intend to vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is in November, and I will reach back to whoever reaches out to me and any number of Obama supporters. But I'm gone being gracious with the Bully Squad, and their tactics.
P.S. Oh, and did I mention I was repeatedly called a "troll," a "sockpuppet," and an "asshole"? That was real nice behavior on the part of the Bully Squad, too.

I don't care if you think people who support Obama are "mean" or "sexist". We are TRUE Democrats who are tired of Repugs in Demo clothing like the Clintons. They are a disease to the Democratic Party. They must be extracted and tossed into oblivion as far as I am concerned.
They proved to us through NAFTA, the Telecommunications Act, GATT, the homophobic Defense of Marriage Act and even Hillary's embracing of a trillion dollar war with a million or more dead that they are NOT DEMOCRATS.
We will win. Handily. Do whatever you want. There are plenty of us that will easily defeat the Repugs in the fall without your help. Either join or get the hell out of the way before we run over you.

71. I've notice that among a few of the Clinton supporters. Let's see: |
|
1. Telling blatant falsehoods about the supporter of another candidate and refusing to retract it: check.
2. Calling another Democrat and fellow DUer a "troll, a sockpuppet, an asshole" because he/she supports another Democratic candidate: check.
3. Telling another poster that their opinion basically doesn't count because they haven't been here all that long: check.
4. Distorting and twisting every sentence, pouncing on grammatical minutiae, calling into question someone's livelihood all because they don't like who that person supports for the Democratic nomination: check.
A nasty bunch, that small Bully Squad.

75. I think graciousness all around is a grand idea. |
|
We've got to keep the real goal in mind.
I prefer Obama. But I think there's a lot to recommend Clinton - especially in contrast to the Republicans!
But it worries and pains me to see how ugly things can get here -- let's keep in mind who we're really fighting against, can't we?
Toward your goal of gracious: I was sincerely impressed by Hillary Clinton's closing words tonight. That was classy of her.
