Michelle Obama and pride in America.
So now we're basically down to this.

Michelle Obama's defenders are saying that her comments were taken out of context. Some even allege that the word "really" was omitted from her quote (even though there are two clips because she said it twice, in different ways, the other day). But all of her defenders are asking others to believe that she did not mean that she wasn't proud of her country and it is unfair to assume that she is not a proud American.

And then many of these same people are making lists of reasons why we shouldn't be proud of America and/or why it's perfectly reasonable for Michelle Obama to not be proud of this country.

It might help if her defenders would make up their minds. Did she mean it or not?

The spinning on this is starting to rival that of The Clintons and their perfected double-speak.

Oh well. I'm sure the point will be ignored, so I'm going to get ready to watch the debate.

1. Are DUers really questioning other people's patriotism?
Really?

After six and a half years of it from the Bush administration?

Is that what it's coming down to?

Have we no sense of decency?

4. If it helps make a case for their preferred candidate, you can bet they'll keep
beating this drum. I've seen it for three days now. Tired of it, but they're just like the right wingers they think Hillary will "fight".

6. Is it possible to get irony poisoning?
I mean, not only are they questioning somebody's patriotism...

they're attacking an opponents spouse.

Think about that a minute.

Hillary's campaign attacking an opponent's spouse.

8. They don't care. They're like Bush's 30 Percenters. Hillary can do no wrong, Obama
is a looming disaster for 101 reasons. They can't see her weaknesses, but they're utterly convinced of his. It's just bizarre.

2. She said yesterday that she's absolutely proud of her country, and that she
was speaking only about the country in a political context. Nothing anybody else says matters--that's HER final word.

3. Where did Michelle grow-up?
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 07:56 PM by liberalnurse
Was she also raised in Africa? She's American now of course since she did acknowledge now she is proud to be an adult American; makes sense.

7. There is no amount of damage control that will keep this from surfacing again & again
if Obama gets the nod. The rightwing hate machine is frothing at the mouth to run against Obama because they will use Michelle's gaffe to put a stake through our hearts once again.

9. Let it.
It's like Barack Obama's middle name. The only people who care are rubes, and they wouldn't vote for us anyway.

10. The military is outraged.
I spoke casually with several Master Sargent's at the base, Wright Patterson Air Force Base....OMG they will never forget her lack of patriotism. Putting it mildly, unforgivable.

I'm been speaking with my fellow astronauts over here at Cape Canaveral and we all agree with Obama, because we hate this stupid country.
