He's a smart guy and I think he'd do much better by using his own words, aside from quoting historical people/leaders.

21. what part of academics and plagiarism do you not get?
you can get all the permission in the world..you still must credit who you "borrow" full statements from..i don't give a rats ass if they write you a permission slip..you must still credit the person you are copying..can you get that?? or are you still ignorant of what plagiarism is?

13. lol tell me you have something better than this
when a contributor offers suggestions and words its not plagerism

when Obama gave previous public attribution "I am going to steal a line from my buddy Deval . . ." it is not plagerism

and then we have all of Clinton's borrowed phrases and her lack of courtesy in acknowledging her ghost writer

please maintain some self respect

12. It can't be plagarism if the words, the speech was given to him.
If you are in academia, you should know that.

Plagarism is using another's words without permission.

25. No you don't.
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 09:46 PM by merh
You credit the author when you use their published words without their permission. (Bibliographies or direct quote/reference.)

If I quote someone in my writing, if I use part of their writing in my writing and do not give them the credit for their words and do not have their permission, then I have plagiarized.

Plagiarism is theft of another person's writings or ideas. Generally, it occurs when someone steals expressions from another author's composition and makes them appear to be his own work. Plagiarism is not a legal term; however, it is often used in lawsuits. Courts recognize acts of plagiarism as violations of Copyright law, specifically as the theft of another person's Intellectual Property. Because copyright law allows a variety of creative works to be registered as the property of their owners, lawsuits alleging plagiarism can be based on the appropriation of any form of writing, music, and visual images.

Song writers either give permission for other performers to use their lyrics or they sell a license to the lyrics. You don't hear performers stand up and say, this is Song Writer's Janes lyrics. They don't have to because they have either been given permission and/or bought the rights.

Please stop with the nonsense.

Tons of speeches are made using the words and ideas of another, HRC has done the same in her speeches, borrowing from Obama. What truly makes it not plagarism is he was given the permission to use the words and ideas.

29. Not in a speech, fly
and not legally - as I posted below, song writers own the lyrics. They either give permission or sell the rights to other performers to use those lyrics and that other performer doesn't stand there and say "My next number was written by Suzzie Song Writer".

And look at your definition - to steal - literary theft.

You can't steal what is given to you.

HRC has actually been using O's catch phrases. Are you pitching a fit about that? Are you calling her a plagiarist?

then so too is this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR1fAsHdAGM

and she even stole from her husband and from Obama's 2004 DNC speech
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5nEtIApcXw&feature=related

Stump speeches and "pushing" a message that resonates with the crowd, that moves the crowd is what political speeches have been about for centuries.
