Hillary plagiarized 2 lines at the end of the debate
She didn't just steal from Edwards. She borrowed from Bill Clinton too. TPM's got it.

Clinton, 92: "The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits the people of this state and this country have been taking for a long time."

Hillary Clinton, tonight: "You know, the hits I’ve taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country."

13. it wouldn't be a big deal, except she got pretty sharp on plagarism a few minutes earlier.
that is the point.

It was a very beautiful close, though.

16. Of course not - the absurdity has to do with her accusing him...
...in the debate, and just a few minutes later doing the very same thing!

40. The charge is hypocrisy ..

It's not a bi-directional gotcha, it's a charge of hypocrisy. Judge others as you would judge yourself.

Or is Hillary just playing the "Well he did it then so can I game". Honestly, this is all silly shit that Americans don't care about. She is obsessed about it because O'Bama is an outstanding, charismatic speaker while she soundsa little bit like the monotonous female voice processor in Windows. At the same time, her movements have the same fluidity of the "it's a small world" animatics at Disney world.

11. I'm sorry but stating pretty common sentiments isn't really the same
as plagarizing. I don't think Obama did either, for that matter, so the whole debate is pretty ridiculous.

21. I agree, but
She brought the whole thing up. And the lines are every bit as close to Bill Clinton's as Obama's were to Patrick's.

So what's good for the gander is good for the goose.

How does one explain Clinton's comments tonight about Xeroxes and evidence of Barack plagiarizing on "the youtube," all the while, her BEST moments of the night were all borrowed from others (her husband and Edwards??).

22. Yeah, but she hits Obama on this then DOES IT HERSELF !
Look, one of Obama's best moments was when he said this "plagiarism" foolishness was "silly." And it is. But no, she couldn't let it go. She had to spout out that shitty "xerox" comment (which probably some staffer told her to say - talk about "plagiarism"), the audience thought it sucked, and then at the end, as eloquent as she was with the story about the injured veterans, she then goes and borrows lines from HUBBY and Edwards. I picked up on that in a second. Sure, we want to get past this shit, so then HILLARY, cut the shit and stop doing exactly what you are accusing Obama of doing. It works against you, people aren't interested in it, so enough already. (She has also been stealing Obama's signature stump lines like "Yes We Can" and "we need an agenda "to get excited about," and "Yes We Can" corrupted into "Yes We Will". Give me a break !)

33. Politico quoting John Edwards 13 December 2007 debate
An echo from Hillary

Several readers, and Obama's staff, heard an echo in Clinton's closing line, that the candidates on stage would be "fine."

Clinton Tonight:

You know, whatever happens, we're going to be fine. You know, we have strong support from our families and our friends. I just hope that we'll be able to say the same thing about the American people. And that's what this election should be about.?

Edwards the December 13 debate:

What's not at stake are any of us. All of us are going to be just fine no matter what happens in this election. But what's at stake is whether America is going to be fine.?

36. You can't claim both.
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 11:41 PM by Tom Rinaldo
If she stole them from Bill Clinton and they are similar enough to what John Edwards said for you to say she also stole them from John Edwards, that means that John Edwards stole them from Bill Clinton too. A couple of folks speculated on a different thread that Hillary might have had a hand in writing the lines herself that Bill Clinton used in 1992, they were working so closely on that campaign.

It was a long closing statement she gave to that final question, and there were a number of emotional comments that Hillary made in it - the part that is similar to Bills 1992 comment was only one piece of it but it all worked well together. And, in total, it hit the right note to close out that debate on. Far better than attempting to contrast herself against Obama, instead she repeated several times how honored she was to be there with him that night. The crowd obviously appreciated the tone that she took.
