My old brain is failing
I seem to remember a site that lists candidates larger contributers, but hard as I try, I can't remember the name of it. I'm looking for unbiased information, so please don't direct me to either of our candidates' web sites. Otherwise, please help an old girl out. Thanks.

11. I looked up my own name, though
and there was nothing listed. That's odd because it isn't true, and I always had to give all of the requisite information so I wonder why I'm not on there.

If the amount is low enough, then they don't have to put you on there.

http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com/

Welcome to FundRace 2008.

Want to know if a celebrity is playing both sides of the fence?
Whether that new guy you're seeing is actually a Republican or just dresses like one?

FundRace makes it easy to search by name or address to see which presidential candidates your friends,
family, co-workers, and neighbors are contributing to. Or you can see if your favorite celebrity is
putting money where their mouth is.

FundRace gives you the technology to do what politicians and journalists have been doing for years:
find out where the money's coming from, see who it's going to, and solve the mystery of why that crazy
ex-roommate of yours is now the Ambassador to Turks and Caicos.

;)

28. I'm on your side, it creeped me out even as I was transfixed
I found out that a neighbor two blocks over sent a lot of money to Edwards, and that a neighbor one block over likes McCain and that the lone household that has a Ron Paul sign has been putting their money where they're sign is. I'm not going to do anything with this information but I am a rational being who should have walked away before I even found that much out, but others might not be so......sane.

Capitol "C" creepy.

27. To be fair, isn't that pretty much what someone could see if they just drove down the street?
Google has added street views of every street in Salt Lake, which shows my house, but I don't mind. I mean, it's basically the same view everyone else gets when they drive by my house daily.

29. Yeah, but until then, my stalker in Texas didn't necessarily get such a birdseye view
In the old days, he would have had to move all the way from New Jersey to be able to stare at my house. Not so much anymore.

31. But he's staring at a still image, one probably taken months, if not years ago.
If it were a live image, then yes it would freak me out, but the idea someone is staring at a 1 year old photo of my house doesn't scare me much, since people do it live every day.

37. I guess I don't get the issue here.
It's creepy because the person can see the house? Well if the person lives in your town he can see your house anyway, all he has to do is drive by it, or take a photo of it. How is it any more creepier than someone looking at your house as they drive by it every day?

If it were live video, then I could see concern, but I take photos of homes because I love older architecture (Victorian homes, Tudors and bungalows) and that really isn't much different than what happens on Google Earth.

Now I'd be more freaked out over the fact the person knew where I lived than whether he knew what my house looks like. Because if he doesn't know your address, he won't be able to find the house online anyway.

38. Perhaps you should read all the replies in sequence?
We were mostly talking about 'The Huffington Post' and the ability to find out on a MAP where the donors live!!

Then Google Earth was mentioned because it can be used as a tool to find people.

41. Yeah, I'm sure the satellites will never be able to take video like they take still pictures
It's just a little creepy, that's all. I'm not terribly freaked out. Terribly freaked out is being at a gathering and hearing your stalker's voice as everyone introduces themselves. Terribly freaked out is finding out that that same person just relocated his whole family from New Jersey to Texas and is surprised that you aren't thrilled.

The other website really creeps me out and the ones that will tell said stalker exactly where I live for just $29.95 just infuriate me. Now that his wife has left him and his daughter has disowned him, I don't see that he has all that many ties to Texas and Washington really is a lovely place. Ya know? It isn't whether this guy is going to be back in my life, it's when. That he gets to cybersurf my house and the trampoline my kid jumps on, in the meanwhile, is creepy. That he gets to find out who I contribute to politically is also creepy. That I can't block him from my life is well, a fact of life, and not to overuse the word, creepy.

Though I find Goodle Earth, especially the street view, to be an interesting tool. I love cities and I love seeing how the urban landscapes differ without ever leaving my house. I'm a geek like that and Google has made it great.

It's the exact feeling I have with the Huffington site.

It's fascinating and creepy. Don't think I didn't spend way too much time on Google Earth. OMG, it sucked up hours of my time even as my gut was creeped out. It's a weird feeling to feel creeped and voyeuristic at the same time.
