Obamas' remark to main job as Pres.
During the debate Obama mentioned his main job as President would be to protect our country and to build up the military. Wish he would have said to restore the Constitution instead. That answer reminded me of our present idiot in chief. Wish Kucinich or Edwards were still in. Anyone else catch that answer?

1. He has repeatedly in his stump speeches said,
I have taught the Constitution, and I will OBEY the Constitution, and restore Habeas Corpus, etc. I guess you never heard one of his speeches.

2. Heard many of his speeches
I have heard many of his speeches. Was at a rally at Navy Pier to see him also. Its just when asked at the debate what his first and most important job as Pres. would be, he mentioned to protect the country and build our military. I voted for him here. I wish he was more liberal. His response reminded me of Bush.

can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever."

15. He's the most liberal senator in office
Much more liberal than Mr. DLC John Edwards.

3. "I have taught the Constitution, and I will OBEY the Constitution, and restore Habeas Corpus"
Obama has consistently said that, in every speech. He's said unequivocal NO to torture, to Gitmo, to trampling civil liberties.

8. Thanks. He was asked about his role as Commander in Chief
which, by definition, is about protecting America militarily

5. I think it's become the necessary evil to prove Dems are "strong on defense"
And I don't like it anymore than you do. Both have mentioned resotration in a round about way in saying that they want to reverse Bush's' policies but I think they would be better served talking about our Constitution. We need to get people aware and knowledgeable of our Constitution again and aware of the damage that's been done to it. I don't think most people, other than political junkies like us, really know how bad it is.

7. Also, I think the military needs to be not built UP....but brought back......
cause it is truly fucked now....after Bush's CIC disaster.

9. Part of the transcript
Heres' part of the transcript:
BROWN: Senator Obama?

OBAMA: I wouldn't be running if I didn't think I was prepared to be commander-in-chief.

(APPLAUSE)

My number one job as president will be to keep the American people safe. I will do whatever is required to accomplish that. I will not hesitate to act against those that would do America harm.

Now, that involves maintaining the strongest military on earth, which means that we are training our troops properly and equipping them properly, and putting them on proper rotations. And there are an awful lot of families here in Texas who have been burdened under two and three and four tours because of the poor planning of the current commander-in-chief, and that will end when I am president.

(APPLAUSE)

The question was about being able to handle the job.

10. I quit watching debates long ago because
they are IMHO bullshit questions and bullshit answers. He has to say this. He has to 1) look tough compared to that woman Hillary Clinton, and 2) combat the upcoming Repugs onslaught of how a Democrat is going to "surrender to terror". Even if in his heart he feels restoring the constitution is the most important thing he can do it, he knows that won't play well in the political sideshow. Kucinich, on the other hand, would have said it, but you can see where he got.

Sad.

11. You're right
Thats true. Answers don't mean much when it comes down to actions when they do take office. Debates are basically for those who are still undecided.

12. He said that because McCain
is going to make the "war on Terra" his main issue because the Rethugs have no other issue to run on. The GOP will present McCain as a strong military war hero and try to paint Obama as inexperienced and unprepared to "pertect Amerika."

That's why he did it. He's running against McCain now and I thought it was an excellent move.

14. I caught it. Please, Texas. Don't send us Bush the Third.
This whole 'judgment' pomp Obama pushes is built on quick sand. How on earth can this nation withstand yet another frat boy pretending to be something he is not?

17. He has to build up the military to avoid a REVOLUTION.
Why?

Step 1:
Radically reduce the number of military personnel in foreign countries.

Step 2:
Support hundreds of thousands of ex-military personnel with welfare and unemployment checks

Step 3:
Put on your boots, run to the bunker, and sit out the REVOLUTION!

18. I get the impression that he wishes to build up the "professional military" vice
one that is "a last ditch" effort by those young folks trying to emerge from poverty.

Public service options will also be available.

You don't want people in the military who truly do not want to be there other than to survive financially.

I loved serving in the Army and I'm way left of center. Forgive me, my vocational tests spit out either this or Police Officer. Nobody but other cops, seemingly LIKES cops - so I opted for the former.

What Obama (I hope - stay tuned) was conveying is that people have to "give back" to America in ways that will improve our communities as well as serve our aspirations and talents.
