1. More likely Obama's people wanted to get the crowd in there quickly

I saw the same thing happen during a Kerry speech in Philadelphia.

They were willing to take a chance with his safety so he wouldn't turn up on TV talking to an empty courtyard.

Still, given who Obama is and who he's constantly being compared to, I'd be more careful.

It is the secret service that shut down the weapons search, something about a "friendly crowd?"
The Dallas Police were very upset.

3. I agree, it is disturbing. Because of who he is Obama's security must be tighter than average.

I remember when I was at that Kerry rally there was a loud noise that could have been a shot. It turned out to be nothing but let me tell you, everyone jumped.

There is NO reason for this to have happened. No excuse.

The more people are aware of this breach of security, and where it came from (Secret Service) perhaps the less likely it will happen again.

8. A similar thing happened...

here in Wilmington DE when I went to see Obama on February 3rd. After waiting in line for 1 1/2 hours it was almost time for the rally to start. When we got to the metal detectors, they were just waving us through. I held out my cell phone and camera for the security people to look at, but they couldn't be bothered, just kept waving people through.
