Example of Obama's Ohio ground-game
hat-tip dailykos

I wanted to relate what i saw in cleveland today, because i'm sure reporters miss this type of thing.

went to see michelle at cleveland state u...a great place for an event considering bo's (Barack Obama's) demographic. i 'sign in' to become a volunteer to see michelle.

at the end, they announce that bo is gonna appear at cleveland public hall sat. night, and to get 'prefered tix' i need to go to a church up the street to get them. so, i go to get tix and as they hand them to me, they remind me that i can early vote at the board of elections right across the street from the church! hahaha...genius!

same thing when i go to the cleve campaign to get yard signs...they sign me up as a volunteer.

one event, with their best demo, where i can get tix to another event, plus early VOTE! plus 3 opportunities to volunteer, plus 4 yard signs.

11. Get over it already
I told you that the person that created that meant well. I even sent you to the article. This came from a well meaning Democrat in Nevada. He was asked to stop and he did. He felt very bad for causing a problem.

Get over it. It was one guy, the campaign denounced it, and the guy apologized.

17. *snicker*
there's nothing left but to laugh at these pathetic tactics. You don't help your candidate, but I suppose that flyer's become like a baby's blanky for you. Hey, if it helps you feel better, go for it.

2. 3..2....1... "how many seconds before a Clinton supporer calls FOUL"
Just saying... when Obama campaigns smartly, and within the rules - but does something Clinton doesn't have the ground game for, it's called "unfair and cheating".

Remember all of those college kids who voted for him in Iowa? Yeah.. so i'm just saying.. 3...2...1

7. there are going to be textbooks on How To Campaign Effectively
by this crew for the absolutely amazing job they are doing.

This is a good indication of his administrative abilities and of his abilities to pick the right people and get people willingly involved and excited about the whole process.

Big points deserved.

28. Hmmm... anyone who teaches political activism would want to
take note of these smart strategies and convey them - as a way to build support for their cause. Logistics, strategy, POS (that is, point of service, not piece of sh..) marketing, fund-raising, free advertising, etc. A wonderful lesson, illustrative of successful marketing & grass-roots support building!
:applause:

19. I'm not sure what you mean by stories.
I volunteered with them in SC. They tracked every voter and volunteer. They followed up. They did ALL of the small stuff and did it well. I've never seen a campaign so good.

24. Obama advisers and inner circle
Does his Chief of Staff qualifies? Some might say that the CoS is just a glorfied peon, I guess...

but, my mother taught me that the way to judge a candidate is to look at the people who choose to do the grunt work in the office. I've known his CoS for many years. The fact that he works for Obama was the first thing that made me look seriously at his candidacy.

If Obama is elected and his current Chief of Staff becomes the White House Chief of Staff I will be unable to stop grinning for at least four years.

12. local ground game in south Texas
Obama: organized an office within days of the Potomac Primaries
Clinton: No office

Obama: supporters energized & active; since the obama store is back-logged, we've all chipped in for Tshirts, bumperstickers, signs; lots of us make our own
Clinton: asking Obama supporters where they're getting their stuff & :wow: when we tell them we're DIY-ing;

Obama: reaches out to the local party & invites elected officials & the local party chair to events, & keeps them all informed of events & appearances; local party chair invited to be on welcoming committee for surrogates
Clinton: someone somewhere makes an announcement about appearances somewhere at sometime; don't invite local officials (unless known Clinton supporters) & leave local party chair completely out of the loop so when asked by the media & public for more information, he can't provide it; was NOT invited to meet Clinton when she made a local appearance.

So maybe she'll carry my county, maybe she won't, but simply ASSUMING she'll win isn't a good political strategy.

20. Last Sunday Dallas newspaper story
Was talking about both campaigns setting up HQs in Dallas. Pure news story - no commentary - but even from the descriptions, it was easy to see which camp was more prepared. Clinton's campaign had handmade flyers up asking for donations of toilet paper and office supplies. No furniture had come in. Obama workers were listening to a speech on the radio while assembling desks they had pre-ordered. Hillary may be detail-oriented when it comes to policy, but there is a real lack of detail to attending to the day-to-day operations of her campaign.

23. If you fail to tie into the local organization you really handicap yourself a lot.
If there is any sort of existing organization why wouldn't you want to tie into it? Makes zero sense to me...

Something about Obama that I noticed even in his Senate primary was the fact that he knows HOW to organize and do it effectively. The man is smart and he hires good people to work for him. That ground game is EVERYTHING in larger campaigns, and he realizes it.

Ya gotta love an old style organizer!

and again, i am unable to resist saying that these are the people that got bill clinton elected.
