6. It's surprised me too that McCain does as well as he does in MA |
|
HRC does somewhat better but still this is a state where the last three elections have gone better than 60% for the Dems. I think by November it will be fine.

4. And many Hillary supporters were saying that Obama would lose CA... |

MA does look very strange for Obama, but I'm sure it'll be safely blue.

7. Kerry won by only 5%... it's a purple, leaning blue state |
|
Because OR primaries are some time away, neither candidate has campaigned there and I guess they're just not paying much attention yet. I'm a lot more worried about MA... seems really weird that in this very liberal state, and with the endorsements of both senators and the governor, Obama is neck to neck with McCain.

9. I'm not so worried about MA. |

There's a lot of natural Obama voters in the state. He's got more than enough padding there.

Interesting that he's performing relatively poorly there in both the general and in the primary where he got crushed. What is MA's history with race? Does MA have a racism problem?

13. The only interesting demographic facts I could dig up |
|
are that it has a strong economy (2nd highest income per capita in USA) and a huge catholic population. Connecticut has the 1st highest income per capita, and that is favorable to Obama, so I really don't see why Clinton does so much better there.

If we win ANY of Missouri, Ohio, and New Mexico, we'll be in good shape.
I am surprised at the margins in NM, MO and Ohio. They both went red last election. The slim margins for Obama in Oregon and Massachusetts are a bit frightening though. I guess MA has a lot of devout Hillary supporters who would be angered by Obama getting the nomination. That's the only way I can explain it.

12. Look at Oregon again, Obama is 1-point ahead HRC is 8-points behind |
|
I think he will do best in those western states and may even bring along Colorado.

My theory for why MA is so tight doesn't apply to Oregon. Oregon was tight last election, so I guess it makes sense for it to be tight this time too. I would have hoped Obama do better than Kerry there though.
