Poll question: Would you support a progressive primary challenger to Hillary in 2012?
Absolutely. We can do way better in a seat in New York.

1. Are you kidding?
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 01:47 PM by dmordue
Shes my senator and I think she has done a great job for NY. All of New York taken in total is really pretty centrist so she is a good fit for the state as a whole.

5. Like what ?
And I am not trying to start anything. This is a legitimate question, as I am also a NYer (albeit a western NYer), and I have not really been keeping score.

Cheers
Drifter

3. It depends on if they could win the general.
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 01:47 PM by LoZoccolo
But if they can, then yes. Our candidates need to learn tough lessons about trying to hamstring apparent primary winners when they themselves are losing, because it's not nice.

18. Exactly right.
Primaries are often the only chance I get to vote for a candidate I truly agree with on most key issues.

14. So, you are saying that Democrats must not be challenged. Did that apply to Joe Lieberman?

22. The OP said PRIMARY. As in "another Democrat".
Reading is fun.

8. She got less than 60% in the NY Presidential Primary.
I'd say that makes her vulnerable. But I don't see why she would run again. It was a stepping stone to the Presidency that she no longer needs.

9. I did support a progressive primary challenger in NY and got berated for it here.
I never belittled Clinton; I only said that, while she was a good senator, I believed that Jonathan Tasini--a person whose conviction and commitment I had experienced personally, would be an amazing senator.

10. It may not be Hillary's senate seat
She may be in the White House, and someone else in the Senate.

This is a good question AFTER she drops out of the prez race, or someone else is nominated.

The longer she stays in, the more likely it will be.

12. If she gets a challenger, will she ask to debate him once a week?
That is another question I'd like to know the answer to.

13. nah
I think supporting an insurgent candidate against your sitting President is really not helpful.

of course, I will support an insurgent progressive against Senator Obama in 2010. Out of Illinois, we should really be able to get someone who supports Universal Health Care, don't you tihnk?

15. It's Chuck Schumer who needs a strong challenger.
I'm sick of him interfering with local primaries.

He muscled out the better candidate for Senate in KY. Now we have a candidate who's just as corrupt as most Republicans - or so my friends in KY tell me.

17. No way...
...regardless of how you feel about her as a presidential candidate or the campaign she has run, she has been a very effective Senator.

I disagree with her on her vote on the war, and I wish she would show a higher level of remorse for it. However, if you look at her entire body of work in the Senate she's been pretty solid.

20. With no malice towards Clinton
I would support a progressive challenger to anyone. Anyone. Clinton. Obama. Anyone. I likes me some progressives, and the primary is the place to get this stuff out, even if it does no more than push the incumbants a little in the right direction

24. No.
Even though I don't support her for president, we share many of the same policy objectives and I totally admire her tenacity and determination. In fact, she would seem to be well-suited for the Senate Majority Leader. Out with Harry. In with Hillary!
