He was a good friend, I only saw him be less than nice to one or two people who were less than nice to him. Most people who posted unkind things, he ignored or tried to reason with. I stuck up for him one night, because he was attacked by someone who was apparently homophobic, and he ignored the poster's vile post.

He is one of the kindest people I've ever met on the internets - he was the first to PM me a couple of weeks ago, when my sister-in-law passed away, he offered his telephone #, and was so sincere, and actually called me several days later. If people didn't agree with what he posted, I saw him try to reason with them SO many times - I certainly would have given up.

There are a lot of nasty posts and vile accusations in this thread, and they make me sick. Apparently, no one can even offer a glimpse into the pm's he's accused of sending, but they're accepted as fact, anyway. I have to wonder if he received the same type of pm's, or if the recipients are exaggerating. I guess I'll never know, but I do know that this thread disgusts me. Celebrating the TS'ing of someone you don't agree with in a public forum, making accusations that they can't respond to - it's just wrong.

I also believe it's against DU rules to post a thread, and responses like this, but hey, enjoy yourselves - it's really great fun to tear someone apart when they aren't allowed to respond, I guess.

78. We all have our moments of excess, and we all need to practice more restraint. Me, too.

There are many posters who annoy me, and who flood the board with threads that are useless, or worse, offensive. I HIDE them. If I see someone's name too often starting such threads, I put them IGNORE, so all their threads disappear. And that's true whether they are for Hillary, Obama or Edwards. I had the poster mentioned on IGNORE until recently for that reason. Then a few days back, I purged all the names from my IGNORE list, and started over, just to start over on that process, and see what I really needed to do. Almost immediately, I had a conflict with that poster, but when I explained my thoughts, he backed off and became more friendly.

I also use IGNORE to cut off any conversation that is going nowhere and quickly creating antipathies that are going nowhere. When you're in a room full of people and one of them is annoying to you, what do you ususally do? Stay there and have it escalate until the host comes over and says "you two need to leave?" I don't. I walk away and find someone else I do want to talk to. We'd all be better served by terminating those kinds of conversations after three exchanges.

I lurked for a year before joining, and when you lurk and don't post, you see things differently. You see how misconduct begats more misconduct, and it generates nasty and lengthy sub threads that exist all because both people involved just have to have to last word. I don't believe in doing that. I believe in DISENGAGING.

I don't start many threads because anything I have to say I can say on one of the many threads on whatever the topic is. I've been in the middle of the typical insult slinging the past few weeks, but that has mainly been what I would call tit for tat. Some Obama supporter posts a thread, I agree with the sentiment, and someone shows up with the laundry list of personal insults that are used on newbies.

Like drinking, you have to know when to say when, and sometimes, that is after the first drink.

Though he was never on my ignore list - I think we were in different threads for the most part. I checked out a few of his threads and just couldn't believe that this stuff was for real so I never went back.

He was a classic disruptor, a person with some serious issues unrelated to his assertions and stories.

134. I did enjoy his post when he supported Edwards...

and some of his first post when he joined Obama supporters. I personally never received negative pm's from D. We talked about other issues that were important to us both. I must admit I have not read his most recent post. I for one am concerned about his health. I know he has not been well as of late. I am one of the "newbies" that all the usual suspects from both camps love to attack and call names if I should disagree with their candidate. I don't post much for that reason. I think a lot of posters here need to do some soul searching and clean up their act. Hopefully after the primaries D. will be given another chance. Just in case you are wondering I still haven't picked between Obama and Clinton. Their agendas are to similar for me to make a choice, so I will wait for the GE.
