Hillary supporters approve of her nasty tactics because she'll use them to beat republicans?
This woman will blatantly attempt to try to swiftboat a DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE over NON ISSUES, but says that McCain's sex scandal is off limits because he is her friend.

Clinton interviewd on Today:

Meridith:"...you alluded to a very personal crisis in your own life involving infidelity, so I want to ask you, what is your opinion of what Senator McCain is going through right now.... and is that the kind of attack that should be part of a campaign?"

Clinton: "Well I'm not gonna comment on that, Senator McCain is a friend of mine,... I wish the campaign were about what we want to do for America..."

Meridith:"So if you become the nominee that will be off limits?"

Clinton:"Well I wanna talk about what I wanna do for the country".

So she will stop the negative attacks only AFTER eliminating and swiftboating a member of her own party? I guess that means she would use the same tactics against McCain that she has used against the republicans for the past six years. So far she's *cough*beat*cough* them by voting for WFRA, IWR, Kyl-Lieberman, Bankruptcy bill, and the Patriot Act, just to name a few of her stunning strategies.

1. You say nasty, I say tough...what do you expect her to say about McCain
at this point? besides, sex should be off-limits...the real story is that McCain is beholden to lobbyists like the rest of them, not the maverick he says he is.

6. She won't touch any of the story, especially the "beholden to lobbyists part." Her hypocrisy must
have some bounds.

Tough? IWR. Kyl-Lieberman. WFRA. Patriot Act. Bankruptcy bill. Those were all "tough" stances against the republicans? Why is it she can only play tough against members of her own party?

8. You guys need to live in Texas for awhile
Compared to the dirty politics we sling around here, the Clinton/Obama primary has been positively genteel.

When some of you get so worked up about "dirty politics" I ask myself -- where do they live that this seems extraordinary? I'M MOVING THERE!

Then it occurs to me that you're too young to have been exposed to what is typically politics as usual.

Support your candidate.

16. This bears repeating:
Everytime I begin to feel a little sorry for Hillary, she and her campaign pulls some wild shit like trying to get FL & MI seated, slinging mud at Obama, etc. Why doesn't she just let the DNC and party elders work it out. She stated herself that those states didn't count -- but that was before Obama started kicking her butt every which way.

And, last night put the icing on the cake. She pulled that Xerox crap which bombed. When that failed, she played the 'feel sorry for me cause my husband cheated on me card.' Then she got all soft and almost pulled a New Hampshire. I think her campaign staff told her to go into the debate using any and everything she could think of to sway the gullible public -- and it damned near worked -- until all the interviews she gave today.

Oh, and the standing ovation was for both candidates because the debate was at its end.

I'm sick of Hillary and giving her the benefit of the doubt, only to get suckered again. To hell with Hillary.

Damn that felt good. My first rant ever on a message board.

23. WTF? It was the Clintons who raised the issue before SC....and they paid the price!
Saying MLK's speech was not as important as a president getting things done has got to be the dumbest statement by a candidate in the South in decades, if not centuries.

Sad thing was that Clinton was at one point leading in SC among AA's.

When I saw Bill involved with this crap I seriously wondered if all the oxygen is still getting into his cranium.

24. You echo the false Swiftboat attack. What she said was:
You: "Saying MLK's speech was not as important as a president getting things done"
Reality: “Dr. King’s dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a president to get it done.”
Now, explain to the class how that was "racist"...

26. Didn't say it was racist....said it was incredibly stupid!
Blacks revere MLK. To say it took a president to get it done vis a vis King was not going to get Clinton anything but scorn among AA's. She could have chosen a different example to illustrate her point that it takes a president to get things done....this was absurdly stupid, especially going into SC. *eyes roll*

It is not even that accurate. I think most historians would say that speeches such as Kings, and the civil rights movement in general, put the pressure on Congress to act in the first place. If 50 people had shown up in Washington to hear King speak, does anyone think the Civil Rights Act would have passed so soon?

Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 09:15 PM by earthlover
I never said only blacks revere king. I do too and I am not black.

King was very active in the civil rights movement, not just in speeches. But his words did move many to action.

Hillary could have used a different example, going into SC, to illustrate her point that presidential actions are more important than words.

Keep in mind that not too long before that statement Hillary was leading in the polls among AA's.

I might add that there is a touch of irony about Hillary's reverence for Johnson in that in 1964 Hillary was a "Goldwater Girl" and supported the candidate who campaigned AGAINST Johnson and opposed the Civil Rights Act.

Every time Obama's attacked, he's able to redirect the conversation and cause the attacks to backfire.

The "Change you can Xerox" moment last night is a spectacular example of Obama's talent at this.

He'll be just fine going against the Limbaugh crowd.
