I love all this attention on the Texas democratic primary system |

We've been doing it for years. CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the nation's media seem dumbfounded. It is really not that hard.
What I really love is the intimation that the weighting of the delegates for the primary vote is unfair or that something sneaky is going on. Folks, this is what we do nationwide. For example, New york has fewer electoral votes than Texas, but more democratic delegates. Why? Because they vote more democratic. No one from Texas gripes about this. Same thing in each of our state senate districts. Those that turn out more folks who vote for democrats, get more delegates. In the hispanic districts, they have been hurt by (a) comparative apathy in 2006 and (b) voting for Bush in 2004.

1. We have an absolutely FAIR and JUST system, thoughtfully created. |
|
It's rational, and it ensures that REAL Democratic strongholds that get out their Democrats to vote will be rewarded at delegate time. It assures us that some Republican district cannot swamp a small number of Democrats with cross over voters intent on stealing the delegates succeed or get equal representation with the strongholds.
I like it, because it has something for the primary voters, something for the caucus goers, and something for the real Democrats who GOTV in their areas.

5. Historically, we have been occasionally subject to crossover highjinks |

The caucus system is designed to give the true faithful of the party the opportunity to reinforce the primary vote of the day (also, from time to time, the caucus has been the place where party platform planks are argued and set). That is my best stab at it.

Those of outside the system don't always "get" the nuances.
