she is an amazing young woman. No matter how you feel about Hill/Bill, you must admit they are admirable parents.

...then you could say that she has a conflict based on her daughter's career.
Since Hillary Clinton supports higher taxes for hedge fund managers, you're taking that as a sign of disrespect towards the profession.

What the poster meant was that she's likeable for a business person. It was tongue-in-cheek. Kinda like - "You know, you're ok..FOR A LAWYER."

Welcome to DU.
Edit to add: I have defended Chelsea since she was a kid. Right wingers, INCLUDING McCAIN, were vile and nasty mofos.
I tend to leave candidates family out of the deal, even if they are helping their mom or dad.
Well, except for Mitt's boys, "serving their country" by touring Iowa. ;)

17. Well if you read my post, you'd see that I said I've not had the opportunity to |
|
hear her speak at length - much less "speak to her on a personal basis." :eyes:
It's my OPINION, to which I'm entitled, based on my observations that she appears to take responsibility for earning her own living, hasn't been busted for drugs or DUIs as have many other children of entitlement, and from what I HAVE seen of her, appears to be a genuinely nice person.
Why does it bother you to the point of misrepresenting my post, snarking with the "do you speak to her", remark, and transform a complimentary statement into "idolatry"?
Why do you give a fuck about what anybody thinks about Chelsea Clinton?

Whether or not I agree with her being terrific beyond words is another thing, but I've seen nothing there that I have a problem with. At all. By all accounts, I'd think her parents should be very proud of her.
And I actually have friends that work in the finance industry, so I don't inherently find her to be evil for working for a hedge fund company.

I didn't criticize Chelsea, but I don't go for this adoring stuff, not for politicians and not for children of politicians- well except for Pat Leahy, who I really do have some affection and admiration for. Chelsea Clinton is, I'm sure, a very nice young woman, but no, she is not amazing. Now continue with your slavish devotion to Hill.

Never tolerated anyone trashing her when she was a kid, and never favored making any of her life an issue until she recently started contacting superdelegates. Even when she was just making appearances, I have had a hands off approach, because that's what kids do for their parents. But calling superdelegates is entering the world of bare knuckles politics, and anyone who gets into that has entered the political mosh pit unequivocally.
But yes, she's a great kid by all appearances and accounts. I'd be proud of her if she were one of my adult children (and I have them in her age range).

At one time, I admired the way the Clinton's had protected their daughter from the glare of their political lives. She seemed a well brought up child, not given to underage drinking, drug addiction or falling down drunk in pricey nightclubs, unlike other presidential offspring.
Now, at age 27, she is publicly campaigning for her mother. Nothing wrong with that, although why she is still being protected and forbidden to talk to the press is a bit odd. But, when I learn that this daughter of privileged, multi-millionaire parents, upon graduation from a top U.S. college, walks into a six figure income job at a hedge fund -- working to increase the investment profits of only the super wealthy -- I question her values. When I learn that her hedge fund is owned by one of her father's top campaign donors, I wonder about her lack of independence from her family.
A hedge fund is a private investment club of which only the very wealthy are welcome as members. It is not subject to normal securities regulations. As a result, hedge funds operate in total secrecy and their acts and transactions are not publicly recorded. Most hedge funds control assets in the billions of dollars, for which they receive a management fee. The only goal of a hedge fund is to generate profits on their members investments.
If the Clintons were truly committed to helping the poor and the disenfranchised, they certainly didn't do a good job of instilling these values in their daughter, however nice she might be.

72. You hit the nail on the head... |

...with this portion:
"But, when I learn that this daughter of privileged, multi-millionaire parents, upon graduation from a top U.S. college, walks into a six figure income job at a hedge fund -- working to increase the investment profits of only the super wealthy -- I question her values. When I learn that her hedge fund is owned by one of her father's top campaign donors, I wonder about her lack of independence from her family."

It does beg the question of her accomplishments in life that at 27 she is a hedge fund manager. She seems to be following in the footsteps of the Bush children. Why work your way up to the top when Daddy can just put you in at the top? Sorry but Chelsea is a reflection of her parents. Totally disconnected from the average American.

She needs to go back to her safe hedge fund day job where she doesn't have to worry about crossing paths with nasty anti-war Dems.
