She doesn't usually swear a whole lot, but *ahem", the response was something like:

"%$!*&&%!! Why the *&#$!% are you sending me %**&^$! 80s music video *&&%$#!??!!"

I told her that if she didn't "get" RickRoll, she just doesn't get anything.

I'm pretty sure she thinks I've been having strokes.

20. Well, now, ya know
my baby grandson's middle name is Wyatt. Named after Wyatt Earp.

I live in the high mountains of Arizona. Now Wyatt Earp and his brothers lived here in my town for a time on their way to Tombstone. One brother had a mill, and another brother was a town constable here. Ol' Doc won $10,000 one night at the saloon where I still go to get a good steak.

Round here, we know how to tell a varmint when we see 'em.

I don't think I'd be breakin' the law to say this:

34. Doc Holiday and my great, great, great grandfather were brothers
Ol' Doc won $10,000 one night at the saloon where I still go to get a good steak.

Doc Holiday is from Griffin, GA. His father left to fight in the Mexican-American war and brought home a young Mexican boy that had been orphaned in the war and adopted him. That was my great, great, great grandfather. True story. So, I guess technically, that makes Doc Holiday my great, great, great, great uncle -- by law, not by blood. :)

39. I think I done read ya say that before!
Here's the question I have always asked of historians and history buffs, but nobody really knows: "Doc won $10,000 one night. Was it gone by the next night?" I just bet it probly was.

The Palace Bar first opened its doors in September 1877. Although Whiskey Row was known for its many saloons. The Palace was much more than a fancy "watering hole". Men came in to check for notices of work available; it served as an election central for several area political races and cattle spreads; and mineral claims were bought and sold over the bar. The Palace is still the oldest frontier saloon in Arizona and the most well-known and historic restaurant and saloon in the state.

In the late 1870's, Wyatt Earp, Virgil Earp and Doc Holliday were patrons of The Palace. Virgil and his wife Allie lived in Prescott where Virgil owned a saw mill at Thumb Butte and was Town Constable.

Wyatt and his other brother, Morgan, visited Virgil in Prescott before they left for Tombstone. Doc was on a winning streak on Whiskey Row (possibly at The Palace) where he won $10,000 in Poker. He joined the Earp's eight months later in Tombstone.

On July 14th, 1900, The Palace was destroyed by the Whiskey Row fire. The ornately carved 1880's Brunswick Bar, which is still in use, was carried to safety across the street to the plaza by patrons.

By 1901, The Palace Hotel and Bar, complete with Chinese restaurant and barber shop, was back in business.

Here is The Palace as it looked when Doc, your great, great, great, great uncle was there. The 24-foot-long carved mahogany bar was shipped to Prescott, Arizona overland by ox team in 1880.

In 1900, "Whiskey Row" (a couple of blocks of mostly saloons) burnt down. Loyal patrons of The Palace carried the beautiful wooden bar across the street to the courthouse lawn to save it. Drinks were immediately served from the bar in the open air.

The Palace was rebuilt and the bar reinstalled in 1901, and here's pretty much how she still looks today (it's where I go for a good steak & a coupla beers).

Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 03:50 AM by troubleinwinter
...when Wyatt was here, he visited Nora 'Butter' Brown's new place for a little "card action". 'Butter' was a popular and successful madam who'd just completed the construction of a new two story wooden building and opened for business, when Wyatt came to check out the good money pickins' brought to town from the gold and silver miners.

'Butter' reminisced in her elder years, telling the story of that amazing night when Wyatt visited her establishment. I've researched it along with some history experts and buffs. We think her reminiscences were only about 1/3 lies.

Part of the success, I suppose, of being a successful madam would be having the ability to tell some mighty good tall tales to keep the cowboys and miners entertained and drinkin'. Maybe she still had that talent in her elder years.

(It's generally accepted that the Wyatt part is true, the Billy The Kid part is a bunch of fancy hooey. The local rancher who conveyed the story is regarded as straight arrow.) Here's Butter's story: http://www.jerometimes.com/Jennie.html

As for Butter forgetting to charge Wyatt, each can make one's own determination. I aint buyin' it. She was a businesswoman and he wasn't famous at the time.

Here's Butter:
