It could have been worse - she could have said "change you can mimeograph"
The Xerox comment was dating. More telling about her and her advisors than anything. That self-satisfying little dig cost her so much
more than she can even begin to imagine. I think she still had a chance until that.

No good ever comes from ill intent.

6. Shades of third grade. "I'll get them!" "No, I'll get them!"
Where are the mimeograph machines of yesteryear?

For those of you too young to get this, oh well . . . kind of hard to describe.

So cruel was Hillary, so uncalled for -- we were all a little shocked that night.

This is so freaking silly.

12. Well anyone who works in any office anywhere could tell you that it's simply
"make a copy"

When copying machines were exotic and Xerox was ubiquitous, it was common to say "Could you Xerox this?"

But those days are long, long, gone. I can't even begin to remember the last time I heard anyone use that as a synonym for "copy"

That's why it is SOOOOO obvious that whoever wrote that comment for Hillary is long in the tooth and not used to making copies for themselves and so is she for not recognizing how dated a reference it was.

13. oh whew that's what I use and I'm still pretty young (thirties)
I just didn't want to seem so behind the times if I said "copy".

the xerox comment was kinda funny actually but I have a corny sense of humor, like totally :)

16. Two points. One: "Change you can copy" lends itself to a different meaning
The first meaning anyone hearing it would have would be "providing leadership" - being the first to do something that others can later copy. And saying "Change you can make a copy of" instead would have been a ridiculous clumsy phrase. "Change you can xerox" worked in ways that "Change you can copy" couldn't of. Personally I think it was a foolish thing to say, but not because xerox is old terminology. Sportscasters still sometimes say that so and so is telegraphing their intentions with their stance etc. and telegraphs are 19th century technology.

Point Two. There has to have been at least a dozen threads making fun of the word "xerox" because it is old and unhip to say. With so many real matters to discuss it comes across as really petty and a touch mean spirited to be having so much fun making fun of the language used by that "older women" who must be "so out of touch".

17. Hillary herself was being petty and mean-spirited by trying yet again to get mileage
from the "plagiarist" meme that had already not worked every time it was trotted out. The fact that poor word choice in a line given to her by one of HER wordsmiths boomeranged in an unexpected fashion is ironic.

Most, if not all, of the foot-shooting in Hillary's campaign has been a direct result of attempting to go negative against Obama.

IF Hillary (and of course, Bill) had stayed on her OWN message, I think she would have prevailed. By taking so much time and effort to differentiate herself as the Doer and him as the Dreamer, she just totally went off the rails.
