Obama supporters, please read this!
I am here with one foot dangling off the fence... not between candidates, because HC is just not my candidate... but between all-out support and passive agreement.

On this forum, what gives me pause is the mud-slinging threads. If I see the same things from both camps, I really do hesitate in my
all- out support

think about this- what if the only mud-slinging subject headers came from HC supporters, while Obama supporters talked about a future, and about what ppl on this site would hope for in that future.

this site is generally frequented by ppl who have a clue. The biggest issue for many non-Obama supporters is the fear that he is too conservative, too corporate. Those are the ppl on this site you should try to reach out to. Those ppl do not support HC and no amt. of vitriol against her will change that dynamic.

If Obama ppl stop the attacks, subject headers for this forum would consist of attacks against Obama and supporters of Obama talking about their candidate.

Think of me as a "proto-left-leaning voter." Read down the subject headers here and ask yourself what separates one candidate from another based on those headers... psssst, the answer is nothing.

just a suggestion.

1. As an Obama supporter, I can say
that I have not resorted to any mud-slinging posts.

3. I'm talking about DU's gd-p, not the general public
if you would re-read my post, I think that should be clear. I'm talking about the demographic here, not in the general public.

7. that's diff. than Hillary-bashing
the "she's insane, yada yada" subject headers.

of course ppl respond when someone attacks his/her candidate. but that can be "Obama does X" not "Hillary is X"

can you see the diff?

13. Well there are the unhinged on both sides.
Personally, when she pulls a stunt like she did today, I get pissed off and respond to her.

19. Exactly
I'm not pointing fingers at the Obama ppl. I'm just telling you what might be a good tactic for ppl like me.

I understand everyone's frustration (in either camp.) The stakes are huge.

I've stopped following the campaign stops, etc. because of all the outrage. So both candidates' messages are lost on ppl like me. DU is a forum for infighting.

8. Really?
I just responded to two threads by Obama supporters who called Clinton shrill, insane, and accused her of racism.

Of course I am going to defend her. If I said anything comparable about Obama, you would defend him, too.

Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 04:34 PM by RainDog
again, I am not saying Obama supporters don't attack. instead, I say they do. I don't get the purpose of your post. Its meaning is contrary to what I said about attacks.

I'm talking about tactics. But you know, if you want to be pissed off at me, you will be. I'll just leave this forum again and wish you all well as you bite one another's heads off.

9. Don't let DU sway you either way. . .
. . .there is too much BS he from everyone. Let the real world, not the cyber world inform your decision. DU is a great place and I love it, however during primary season there is too much BS here for you to make a decision.

14. I supported Dean
And the attacks from the Kerry camp made me sick. By the end of the primary season on DU, I had left here (and stayed gone for a few years) and did not support Kerry, but voted for him.

that's a big diff. and if you want ppl to go door-to-door for your candidate, that's maybe a lesson. Maybe the infighting isn't worth it, that's all I'm saying.

Ppl will do what they do. I made a suggestion and obviously ppl disagree. Nevertheless, my response remains the same.

10. Or ask yourselves this:
Do you think a non-Hillary supporter is more likely to read a positive Obama thread or an attack thread?

fwiw- when ppl are in dysfunctional relationships, they are told to make "I" statements, not "You" statements, because the "I" statements cannot be denied because they are an expression of someone's understanding, not an attack.

12. Kind of like writing
When I, supporting Hillary, am dismissed by an Obama supporter as a "bullshit academic," it hurts my feelings, and it also makes it less likely that I'm going to take the agrument of that poster seriously. In fact, I will put that poster, and all others like them, on ignore.

18. Exactly
We're all in the same party, right?

For many in this country, fwiw to you Obama supporters and others, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is a milestone. Just as Obama's campaign is, and for the same reasons... because the Demo party is one that stands for empowerment.

Unless dems shoot themselves in the foot, the next election will be historic. You will be part of history.

I will vote for whoever is the demo candidate because any responsible liberal needs to think beyond personalities to facts on the ground, such as Supreme Court nominations and another Republican war monger who will further destroy our credibility around the world... no matter who the republican candidate may be.

I'm asking the Obama supporters b/c, as I said, I lean toward him - but the same would apply to the Hillary supporters. both sides are attacking. both sides would have more fence-sitters support them if the vitriol would lighten up a bit.

But your reaction to my simple post tells me why. I made a suggestion, and you'd think I had endorsed Mussolini.

whatever.

peace. let's let this thread die a death that will not cause you and others to lose anymore dignity than you already have.

17. It is a reflex reaction to the attacks Bill and Hillary use against Barack
Just look at what is going on today.

and you are wrong about the answer being nothing.

The answer is that Obama is telling the truth (slanted toward his point of view as it may be) while Clinton says things that are simply untrue. She lies on a regular basis and she distorts the truth, not just spins or slants, distorts.

If you want one clear example of this then please familiarize yourself with the "Levin Amendment" that is associated with the IWR. Then go check what she said about it in the California debate. She lies, if you were watching that debate then she did everything possible to lie directly to you.

Don't take my word for it, go check it out.
